Nvidia kills GTX285, GTX275, GTX260, abandons the mid and high end market
Explain. Please.
It's not very hard to explain, the government likes to break up monopolies because they're bad for the consumer, if both rival companies merged, we'd only have one major consumer GPU manufacturer, and that's a monopoly.
God damn it stop raping my automerges
Needs better source
If this is true, though, ATI would monopolize the market.
Lucky I just bought a PS3
Edit:
also I doubt this is real
Does that mean there will be no more high-end drivers?
I JUST order a GTX260 laptop...
... Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

It's cool, Nvidia never updated their laptop drivers anyways.
That alone is enough to discredit the whole story.
oh fuck!
you're right.
I didn't see that.. although it is true, cept this is bashing nvidia more i bet lol
Excuse me Nvidia, what the flaming fuck are you doing?
Kyle Bennet from http://www.hardocp.com/ spoke with a representative from Nvidia...
I have known Charlie for a long time and have shared time with him all over the globe, and I will say that there is almost always a basis of truth in his stories. That said, there is almost always a reach to dramatize and spin the article into line with what I think are personal motivations. Regardless of your opinion on this, I see what Charlie writes as "Tech Tabloid" and I think most of us will agree on this.
Headlines like Charlie is writing now should not go unanswered, so we asked NVIDIA for an official statement as to this topic so we could publish it for [H] readers, and here it is from Ken Brown at NVIDIA PR:
Hi Kyle,
Thanks for asking.
There is no truth to this. Charlie has become a sponsored site of his sole advertiser. It's no coincidence his website looks like an AMD ad.
Please let your readers know, and let us know if you have any more questions.
Thanks.

Sherbin also dismissed a report that Nvidia was pulling out of the mid-range and high-end GPU market as "patently untrue".
Ahaha I remember that site. A few news posts cited it as a source, and I had a great time saying how ridiculous the source was. Looks like I was fooled this time, though, and I even did a double take when I read the URL but continued in regardless.
I laughed at how the name of the site was "semiaccurate" and what self respecting hardware site has a .info domain?

Still, Holy Crap, this is still terrible for Nvidia, if I read right, not developing for the new models could put them too far behind.

I love how the site is called "Semiaccurate."

Considering that Nvidia called the Fermi sawn off shitbox shown off at the GPU Tech conference an "engineering prototype", despite the fact that it wasn't even anything near functional, that they tried to downplay the effects of the failed batch of G92 GPU dies from back in 2008, and that they tried to downplay the importance of Dx11 (A fucking industry standard) sort of makes me unsure as to whether I can fully trust Nvidia's word on this. Charlie might be incredibly biased, but considering the severity of what he is saying, surely had there not been at least a very tiny kernel of truth in there, he'd be flooded in lawsuits right now, making me believe that Nvidia is at least going to be downscaling their production of the cards. Charlie did bring up a few good points, the majority of the GTX series is no longer profitable to Nvidia, it would be bad business practice to continue selling these graphic cards when they're already obsolete/overpriced/none-profitable.

Chill out man. I don't think Nvidia is going under...
I can afford a $1000 graphics card. Wana know why? Rich parents ftw. No problems for me.
probably not, you probably just think you're rich because you have a house bigger than most of your friends
Hey people, semiaccurate = not accurate at all ffs!
I'm taking this with a pinch of salt with the source, but thinking about it the latest Nvidia cards haven't been doing too well.
Not so long ago I used EVGA's Step-Up program to exchange my old 8800Ultra (Which was really quite awesome.) for a 9800GX2. I was only running 1366x768 at the time and there wasn't much of a change, in fact I think it ended up performing worse because of the low resolution. I then changed monitor and resolution to 1920x1200 and for the time was quite glad that I had the extra graphics power for this change. That card has recently died and I'm waiting on an RMA, but in the mean time I'm using an old 8800GTS and I was quite surprised to see it perform just as well at 1920x1200 as the 9800GX2.
Gone are the days when the next generation of graphics cards are at least twice as powerful, at least for Nvidia. I've always liked Nvidia's products but their recent cards and now their drivers haven't been up to the standard they once were. I'm very tempted to try the new ATi HD5870 and see what their new drivers and cards are like. Then again it might not be a choice if this news turns out to be correct.
True or not, it would suck hard if either one of the companies needed to throw in the towel. The prices of the other one would skyrocket seeing as they'd basically have monopoly on the GPU market.

I LOLD!
Hahahaahhaha, Bunch of pussies, ATi was asskicked for a while and they holded on okay, nvidia feels the competition and goes crying back to mommy. hahha

It was Canadian originally.
It was bought by AMD, which is American.
Fuck, but I liked nVidia. Ambient Occlusion and that 3D crap and PhysX was awesome
