• Random Lag for Seemingly No Reason.

So facepunch, whenever I play a game on the Unreal engine or Source engine, I start lagging at random points in time for no real reason. I could be slaying zombies with loads effects, sounds and particles, but then the next moment, be lagging like fuck for a good 30 seconds when I was looking at a blank wall. What the fuck? System stats:
Download HWmonitor and check your temps. Also, your GPU?
Nvidia Geforce GTX 260M [editline]03:11PM[/editline] Also, downloading HWmoniter.
... Well?
Sorry, was checking to find the Peak Temp, but had to leave home. This is a little over 10 min. into running. It can get 10 degrees Celsius higher.
Nothing wrong with those temps. Tried reinstalling drivers? Download DriverSweeper from here: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ Enter safe mode, and do a full Nvidia cleanout, after this is done, reboot into normal mode, and download the latest ones for your card from here: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-258.96-whql-driver-uk.html
That video card temperature is a little high, was that screen shot taken while you had the game loaded up, because if that video card temperature is your idle video card temperature, I dread what it would be in-game. 40-50C is are good temps for idle (preferably around 45C), 65C is high for idle, and with a 3D game running, it might run up to 75 or even 80C :O

Ok, bumping. Problem is still unsolved. This is seriously pissing me off now. [editline]17th October 2010[/editline] I'm lagging more then when I'm not.
Disable all network adapters and try again. I know this sounds silly, but it's a possible cause.
Nope.
*sigh* I hate to keep bumping this, but I really want some help. Sorry.
Is this only online multiplayer games? I notice this when I play over wifi instead of having a direct ethernet connection.
Is this only online multiplayer games? I notice this when I play over wifi instead of having a direct ethernet connection.
I had the same problem. I tried putting a wireless adapter in my desktop and my games would lag like hell.
Any game. Borderlands, SP GMod, TF2 Offline Practice, COD: MW2 (SP & MP) Everything.

So? Those temperatures are far from harmful for a GPU.
Okay, so it's a laptop. Try disabling bluetooth, camera, all the manufacturer garbage (kill any application that isn't either the driver or a windows process), and running with no battery (if it's removable) on outlet power. Set it on High efficiency in battery settings and if you have an application by manufacturer that also does that, set it to maximum power before closing it. If that doesn't work, try disabling the sound device. And make sure it is ventilated at all times. If you have a fan you can use, point it at the underside of the case.
