Thinking of rooting my Incredible 4G to put CM on. Is it worth it and how hard is it to do?
On the only, very small, not even worth it upside of dropping my phone
the L.E.D on my phone looks pretty interesting now

Not difficult at all and worth it.
Thinking of the Razr MAXX HD as my next phone, currently have an iPhone 4
Thoughts? I had the droid R2-D2 before I had the iPhone so I'm familiar with both OS's but I'm afraid I'll get annoyed with android before I have a chance to get used to it again. I tried the razr today at the store and I'm not sure about it
What would you say is the time period curve of getting used to transitioning from one OS to another?

Unless you're shaking around like crazy, it really improves the quality.
unless it's optical stabilization, digital image stabilization is crap and I highly recommend everyone to not use it. It's better off to stabilize it in a video editor or something.
Turn on image stabilization and slightly shake the phone up and down, and then left and right in a shaking motion. You'll probably see than when you shake up and down is that the video is all fuzzy. This doesn't happen with it off.
Any stable Jellybean ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy S2 yet?
Well I think I ended up bricking it. I had CM working and was trying to fix my contacts not syncing and ended up wiping CM and my backup. I can't even get into recovery now. Is it possible to fix this?

Get into download, flash recovery.
Hmm, There is a beta version of Opera in Google Play. And I must say it looks great.

Will that work if I can't even use adb?

My mom, someone that really doesn't care for technology and really prefers iOS, took about a month to get comfortable with using Android.

There is an official OTA JB update from Samsung for the S2. Both my parents have been using it for months.
Did not properly roll out globally yet, though. You can flash it manually (without losing warranty etc, it's official update files).

No wonder the facebook app is so bad.

Hmm. Unrelated, someone said here earlier that it went from HTML5 to native code on Android too. If its working with Dalvik it'd still be Java byte code from what I understand.
Guys, why can't i paste in a field on facepunch when I'm on mobile chrome? I try to long press, but it just highlights the nearest character. So I can do it in an empty field, but I can't quote or anything because it just highlights.

In response to Sgt Pepper: I would say about a month as well, maybe less. Just take the time to get Familiar with the OS. Learn some of the little tricks. And if you happen to see an article or something about Android (jelly bean), go ahead and give it a read. I can't tell you how many things i learned from just reading about Android.

Dalvik needs to be retired already.

Java in general
Java in general
Java still has it's uses, but that's for simple & streamlined multiplatform stuff.
AKA only 0.1% of what it's currently used for.

When I got my first Android device, my Motorola XOOM, it took about 3 days until I knew how to do pretty much everything with Android. And that was with Android Honeycomb *shudder*.
I believe the MAXX has ICS right now, and that should be even easier to use. Also, Android has much more functionality than iOS and stuff like multitasking is much easier.
He's getting the Maxx HD. It's on 4.1
[editline]5th March 2013[/editline]
you're thinking of the OG Maxx. The rest of what you said applies, though.

FacePunch and Chrome for Android is a fucking mess. Takes forever to get things to work and it crashes often on my phone.

because its some magic vB text field that doesn't work well on touch devices
I just read a scary story about the fact that Google announced a mobile chrome OS in 2011,so they're gonna bury android in chrome OS, kill android, and go all chrome.
It's scary because it makes sense.
I wuv andwoid :(

Google is slowly killing the Android identity. It's changing the word "Android" for "Google" in a lot of instances (like the Google Play Store).
Mobile ChromeOS is going to be like the original iOS.
Google is slowly killing the Android identity. It's changing the word "Android" for "Google" in a lot of instances (like the Google Play Store).
and that's the only instance i can thing of
which actually makes sense because they sell more than android apps there
because its some magic vB text field that doesn't work well on touch devices
Works fine on Safari and Chrome for me right now.
Google is slowly killing the Android identity. It's changing the word "Android" for "Google" in a lot of instances (like the Google Play Store).
I've noticed this too. And with all this worry about "android" not being an effective "brand" (it's not a fucking brand, but what do you expect from tech analysts who work at the economist), I'm not sure if Google's wanting to remove android or just get their name on stuff.
In any case, I can totally see them dropping android for Chrome. Think about it :
Instant ecosystem control
No more open source abuse
No more fragmentation
Instant name recognition (who hasn't heard of or used Chrome)
Tighter integration with Google services.
[editline]5th March 2013[/editline]
Also android has a reputation for being cheap and knockoff-ish. with chrome, they could rope in more of the Apple "because it's better because it's expensive because it's better..." crowd.
And let's look at what amazon just did. They dropped an ad API. They're actually going after Google's profits now, not just forking Google's OS to near incompatibility.
firefox and ubuntu and tizen will fail because they have no apps
google can't really ditch android so easily.
the best solution would be to slowly start rebuilding android as a google os:
start locking down the play store
get rid of dalvik
replace holo with the google ui thing (aka what all ios google apps and google now use)
start making actual google phones, enough of that nexus bullshit
do a chromium - chrome thing, where chromium is the open source thing anyone can use, and chrome has lots of google with closed source
[editline]5th March 2013[/editline]
but to make that happen google needs to have a solid base, because they will piss oems off a lot if they do this
