Why don't we have matte displays yet? I know the colour reproduction and black levels would suffer, would it add bulk?
Matte displays are positively awful. What's more important is better anti-reflective coatings that actually enhance sunlight visibility, matte just diffuses the light so it doesn't hurt to look at as much, without actually enhancing visibility.
tl;dr If you really want to ruin your display so badly, go get a matte screen protector.
Why do I feel like people on oem roms want AOSP, and people on AOSP (who didn't want it in the first place) want touch wiz or some other awful skin?
I'm on Blur and I still want to flash AOKP just to be that much closer to stock 4.2.
Grass is always greener.
AOSP is great for the people that have changed every part of their phone to not use an OEM UI's applications, for everyone else if the visual style really bothers them so much, they can find a skin that makes things look better.

The S3's design was beyond retarded for the glass. Why they thought it would be a good idea to have the glass stick out so much is beyond me.

I agree, and it's not like that bezel helps at all, it's soft as butter

Either way it's still an amazing phone, broken screen or not
I'm just glad the camera wasn't damaged, I constantly use it to document college work
Anyone know anything about a 4.2.2 release on Verizon for the Galaxy Nexus?
I'm still running 4.1.1 ffs, I heard there's a leaked version somewhere for Gnex so if there's no official release I'll just have to look for that one. I just don't want to go through the hassle of backing up and shit again if I don't have to.
Okay I know some of you have the Transformer Infinity TF700t, etc. I just got back a new one from square trade and it refuses to update. Everytime I try to update it says there is either a connection error, or a server error. Should I just RMA it?
The number of people butthurt over the leaked photos of the S4 is hilarious.

Yeah I'm still waiting for 4.2.2 for my Razr M. I doubt it will ever come but I can dream.

Does it look like the same thing as the S3, except .3 inches bigger? There will be a huge shitstorm on so many forums arguing this is better than that when the S4's specs are officially confirmed.

I ain't taking shit seriously until the photos come from Samsung themselves. I can't think of any "leaked" photos that have turned out to be real other than the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini leaks.

Yep. Only the difference is it's a metal ring on the side.

Samsung did release this render of the phone and it's pretty similar. http://t.co/yi8VSDFxUe
swiftkey is still pretty damn worth it imo
I'm not into the predictive stuff so thumb keyboard is way better for me

I hate that overly curved bezel so much
Samsung entered a whole new level of ugly with the S4 back. Jesus fuck.

It reminds me of the VX6900
Or as everyone without Verizon at the time knew it, the HTC Touch.
Does anybody know a decent app for taking math notes and/or doing math problems on a Nexus 7? Maybe a special keyboard?
I'm probably gonna get the HTC One over the S4.
Is it just me or is SwiftKey acting up in such a way that you can't even use the keyboard or switch?

heh, I wanted to try out some new ROMs cuz I was bored and I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon
Everything I tried apparently had to use AROMA which doesn't seem to work right for me. (Except for a MIUI ROM..which hasn't changed much, + its still on 4.1.)
Right, looks like I'm sticking with CM10.1.
i was a bit bored on a road trip so i decided to try and relearn android dev proper, reading docs rather than tutorials. ended up rewriting my pipboy wallpaper and adding a bunch of themes and options
android dev is so lovely when you actually understand it. excited to start working on some new apps soon

(just noticed the settings screen mislabeling, oops)
also installed 4.2 jellybean (supernexus 2), its so nice having a swype-style keyboard ship with the OS. i'm surprised at how much image editing shit they've thrown in too, the color filters are a nice idea but being able to edit curves is nuts
I want to root my GS2 1777 but i have no idea how so what should i do first?
I want to root my GS2 1777 but i have no idea how so what should i do first?
if i remember right (i rooted my i777 a long time ago) the best way to do it is really just to google "how to root ____" in your case "how to root sgh i777" and find a good walkthrough. from what i remember and a quick google search ODIN is one of the more popular ways of rooting the sgh i777, so you'll follow the instructions to run the ODIN program while your phone is connected to your PC, it'll root your phone and install CWM. you'll reboot and see that your kernel has changed and you have the Superuser app, at that point you can boot into recovery by powering off your phone and powering it back up while holding the volume up/down buttons. if you can access CWM recovery you can start flashing new ROMs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1304
go here and pick a ROM. i just flashed supernexus 2 and its cool as hell
they give you step by step instructions on how to install most ROMs but basically you just download the ROM (and usually an accompanying GApps apk as well), put it on your sdcard (on my vers of CWM you can also use internal sd though?), boot into CWM recovery and do a factory reset / data wipe (i think cache wipes are dependent on the ROM so check the thread?), go to "install zip from sdcard", navigate to your ROM, flash that, then do the same with GApps, reboot and you'll be on your new ROM
Has anyone here attatched their phones onto tripods, steadicams, glidecams, etc.? Or am I a lonely phone film maker?
Has anyone here attatched their phones onto tripods, steadicams, glidecams, etc.? Or am I a lonely phone film maker?
Reminds me of the good old days of making yourself a tripod for the Nokia N95 using the headphone jack because it was on the side, so you could just stick a headphone plug to a camera tripod and plug it on

Guys, the X-Phone may be a "Build your own" type situation.
