Skype reconnects, but I have to manually rejoin the call, which is a pain in the ass. And yes, the skype app is really laggy. Even on my Nexus 4 chat scrolling lags like fuck.
It works great on iOS, though I don't agree with all the changes in the latest update. Guessing it's just a shoddy Android app?

Well looking at pics, at least it isn't a port of the iOS design style.

third party apps work well with chat but I've yet to find an app that allows voice and video calling/chat without using the skype app at all.

I like how skype isn't a hindrance on iOS, unlike android where it has to shove it's connected button in your face at all times thought I don't think you can turn off skype on iOS, it's always active (or well my friend seems to always at all times be online).
Skype is amazing on Windows phone but that's too be expected.
The Android counterpart really is terrible. It takes a good 15 seconds just to sign in.

I think there's a log off option or something because a friend who has an iPhone 5 said that he can't keep Steam chat on his phone. It always quits or goes offline when he switches the app or something like that.

Steam has options regarding the service/online and even status bar icon while the app isn't active afaik, skype does let you log out, but it doesn't log in at boot (unlike iOS from what i've heard) and it shows a notification that it's running at all times and offers no option to get rid of it.
Real Racing 3 came out. Mother of god.

It sucks on WP7 because it logs you out if you don't have the app "open". Dunno if that's fixed on WP8.

It's always active but you can log out or display yourself as busy or offline like normal Skype.
If you're willing to, flash the franco.Kernel for Nexus 4. I've done that (as well as mblunk) and it improves the battery performance by a huge amount. Also, like rhx said, turn off unwanted services as you go. Ex: if you're going to be in class for an hour, you might as well have wifi, data, and/or gps off (unless you use it in class.) DS Battery Saver Pro might be a better option for you if you don't like doing it manually and you only want it off while the screen is locked/you're not using your device.
Just an update on this:
After flashing a custom kernel, the idle battery life is substantially better. Without the battery issues, the N4 is an amazing phone.

Steam is better now but it's still not amazing. It stops pushing messages after a while. iOS supports push in their multitasking APIs, there's no reason for a message to not show up in an app.

Were you on 4.2.2 before? 4.2.2 increased the Nexus 4's battery life by a LOT.

sucked for me, lots of "resuming..." screens, it raped battery, and there was no way of knowing if I was online or not when it's not open.

I know, but it's just not as obnoxious as on android because it doesn't show a 'running app' notification at all times unlike on android.
[editline]1st March 2013[/editline]
I mean, if skype could just show the icon in the status bar but not keep that notification there at all times that'd be perfect. You can see skype's status at all times but it doesn't cost you any valuable screen space.

I was. I didn't notice any change between 4.2.1 and 4.2.2.
I hate how the Galaxy S4 is now the pace-setter for Android phones of 2013 when it isn't even out yet.
I mean come on, this' just ridiculous:

Someone wanted a video of me testing the camera underwater, well here you go.

The screen kind of spazzes out if there's big droplets on the screen but if you have wet fingers on a relatively dry screen it's works perfectly. The phone also seems to dry quite quickly as well.

BY THE WAY I AM RUNNING ON YOUR PHONE! HERE IS A GIANT MESSAGE TO LET YOU KNOW AND TAKE UP 1/6TH OF YOUR NOTIFICATION CENTER!
Yah that's pretty bad. It could just go in the top bar and display whatever symbol shows your state when logged in, it doesn't need to go in the notification shade.

I believe it's a limitation with Android, in order to have anything on the left side of the upper part of the notification bar you need an actual notification for stuff like that.
Something I really want in a smartphone is full manual control over the settings for extreme situations like macro, low light, and extreme bright light. There's a pretty good reason why:
Full manual settings (.5 sec shutter, +2 exposure, all else on auto w/ WP8's built in touch-up function):

Stock camera app, all auto with flash off. Also used automatic touch-up to try and get it bright enough to see things:

Auto mode produces a completely wrong white balance and the blur is severely accentuated. With the top photo, there's still a ton of noise at 100% crop, but once you downscale the quality is almost acceptable.

TL;DR Auto was f/2.0, 1/13 sec, 1100+ ISO. Manual was f/2.0, 1/2 sec, 168 ISO.
