Oh gosh. And how many servers would both of those cover?
It mostly takes alot of cash
If you're planning on doing this just to make money, I suggest you stop where you are. You'll find that you will have to pay for A LOT of stuff in the long run; server charges, software charges and etc. If you're looking for a quick way to get money, just go get a job or something.
I'm doing it for fun also.
There's nothing fun being waken up at 3AM by a horde of angry customers, because your rented "super reliable" server went offline for no apparent reason. If JWJ has the time, he could hire you for the level 1 tech support, really basic things. Then you'll see how hard it can be, even at the very basic level.

Waking up at 3 is part of the deal. Just business in general is fun. If that's what it takes to keep the customers happy, it's fun
who are you again and why does your opinion matter [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] My thread about starting your own hosting company: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1005380-The-Adventures-of-Starting-a-Hosting-Company [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] There's already thousands of competitors, why would I care about one more?
not really an opinion, look at the oify, all the banners and backgrounds, and fp buttons are hosted on your site and about 40% of the time they don't load because you have terrible up-time.

The amount of nights and mornings I spent awake forging through crap was such a toll breaker on my system.
