Holy shit, what a close fit. You deserve a medal for getting it in there.
Holy shit, what a close fit. I'm pretty amazed it fit as well, and I thank jebus it did at all. I didn't want to have to buy a new case or mangle the hard drive bay. Oh also this thing idles lower than I thought, when I said 54 that wasn't too long after closing a game, right now it's at 43 C. [editline]3rd January 2011[/editline] So playing Crysis and recording with fraps on very high and 2xAA is actually playable! Did you unlock it yet? If you do, remember to to the powertune +20% thing and to watch so it doesn't overheat after you do.

I have an PowerColor ATI 5870 PCS. Should I sell it and buy an PowerColor 6950? I could get one with 289€ (383$).

Wait for the HD 7000 series or GTX 600 series when they come out later this year.

Personally, if I could get within a $100 deficit of a brand new 6950 I would sell that 5870 in a heartbeat. Which is what I did actually, sold my 5870 in November before/just after (cant remember) the 6 series launched with the original intent of getting a 6970, then I heard about this unlocking stuff and well, couldn't be happier with my 6950.

Everything else is exactly the same or within 2 FPS of eachother. Definitely not a hundred dollar difference in my opinion.

For me it was a no-brainer because I'm one monitor away form an eyefinity setup and that extra gig of Vram is really gonna help my frames.
Is this PSU enough for a 6950? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139018
Well it's minimum 500 watt for a 6950 so you might get by, but it might be pushing it a little. 34 AMPs should be enough as long as you don't OC or increase the power control settings to 20%.
Well I want to do that. Can you get me something that will work for as cheap as possible? [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] Like this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139019
Well I want to do that. Can you get me something that will work for as cheap as possible?
Going cheap on a PSU is never a good idea. Ever. When a cheap PSU blows it can (and probably will) fry major parts of your computer. My personal recommendations: Corsair HX 650w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012 Corsair HX 750w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 Corsair HX 850w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011 The 850w if you plan to go crossfire maybe in a few years by picking up a second 6950 used. 750 if you have an otherwise powerful computer (intel i7 or AMD equivelant) 650 if none of the above apply.
I can't afford any of those. What about this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016&Tpk=bp550

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139019
Yeah I think those power supplies are good. Corsairs are good and reliable, although I'm a bit rusty on PSU knowledge, but anything with a lot of reviews and 4 stars or above are usually reliable enough. The amperage on the second one you posted is good enough, and same with the first. Though I'd probably grab the 600 watt.
Yea, newegg totally kills me with tax (10%) since I'm in california. The only good thing is that I get my products pretty much the next day since their warehouse is so close. So... I think I will get the corsair 600 watt. Thanks, I plan on unlocking it.

Stick to single rail. Damn, you broke my automerge.

I cannot stress this enough, Please don't get anything lower than 650w if you plan to run a 6950 unlocked, and corsair are very good and reliable. It's worth it, Trust me.
Actually I'm not sure my Asus card is entirely stable after the unlock. The graphics driver crashed twice in the last half-hour while using photoshop and has crashed about three other times in the 10 days I've owned it. I struggle to remember it crashing once when I was using my now sold 5870. Gonna do some stress-testing today and if I find it too unstable I'm gonna reset the BIOS and get my money back. Not sure if I'll try it again or just get an actual 6970.
Did you check your temps?
yes [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] Actually it seems to be more of a driver issue. Been running Furmark for 20 mins now with a rock solid 30fps and zero artifacts or graphical bugs. Gonna let it run later while I sleep for a propper test.
Its called a cartel and Intel's Single core are actually core 2 duo's with one core disabled

And if I unlock it, it seems to win 5870 quite nicely. [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] "nicely"

Okay, just got all my parts and installed them. One problem - the new 10.12a Drivers are giving me BSOD every time I load. All the other older versions aren't compatible with mine and don't seem to be installing video drivers. So 10.12a drivers are all fine and dandy, but I keep BSOD'ing with them as soon as I get into my desktop. Any help?
rollback drivers?
So if I were to buy a 6950 in the next couple of days, what would be the chances of that card unlocking?
Bumper Sauce batman !
