How the fuck did that go to $8400? It doesn't even have 6970's or 580's in it either!

We could start a Paypal account that pays for a personalized title, that says "Biggest Alienware Tool"

over priced.

tl;dr
They are worth the money because they are fucking built for gaming. Simple as that.
What does that even have to do with anything?
Alienware is just a F.O.R.D. (Fucked-Over Rebuilt Dell)
:what:
Are you saying that the actual components are bad as in they're a little outdated? Or are you seriously trying to compare the build quality of a Mac to the build quality of an Alienware?
they're made in the same factory in china
I don't see how you can say that mac hardware is better than alienware hardware or viceversa

Or at-least do some research, so they don't get buttfucked by the ridiculous price.
Alienware M20X: Now with even more seizure-tastic rainbow strobe lights.
at seventy three times the cost

Even if that was a reasonable price what are you going to possibly need 4.1 ghz for.
Even if that was a reasonable price what are you going to possibly need 4.1 ghz for.
Video encoding, DUH. It's the primary use of my overclocked i7 920. Blu-ray encoding is VERY hardware demanding. on a Phenom II 955 X4 (quad-core machine), it took over 6 hours to recode a Blu-ray to a 4GB 720p 2-pass M2TS file. That's just embarrassingly slow. My i7 can do the same job in 2 hours at 3.2GHz. The Phenom machine isn't mine, so overclocking it isn't an option.
Even if that was a reasonable price what are you going to possibly need 4.1 ghz for.
I keep my i7 870 at 4.1ghz for 3D rendering purposes.
Almost 9,000, really? you would pay that much?
even if you needed an overclocked i7 980x and a 6950, you could probably build that same system for less than 1/3 of the price. Even considering an i7 980x is $1000, and a 6950 is ~$300 for the 2GB version.
oh wait, SSD RAID... still, under $4000 if you absolutely needed a RAID0 SSD configuration for your boot drive, and not something more reasonable like a 32/64GB SSD boot drive and a regular hard drive RAID for all the extra space you need.
[editline]29th January 2011[/editline]
that hard drive configuration would cost about $1200 considering a 256GB SSD is $500 and a standard 2TB hard drive is < $100.
[editline]29th January 2011[/editline]
ok, so a rough total:
i7 2600k - $330
(2) ATI 6950s 2GB version - 2($290)
875W PSU - $170
8GB DDR3 @ 1866MHz - $160
(2) 256GB SSD - 2($500)
(2) 2TB 6.0Gb/s HDD - 2($100)
BD Burner - $130
W7 Ultimate - $270
Dell U2410 - $560
subtotal - $3240
leaving you with $5229 for a motherboard, case, shipping/handling, and other odds and ends. Totally worth it.
Pricing taken from Newegg, made sure specs matched as they were described on the screenshot. I even chose some of the more expensive stuff to try and beef up the price a bit. Still left with ~60%. Considering Alienware gets these parts in bulk, each sale is probably $5500 in pure profit.
Getting the ASUS G73 would be better. Lets see, Aluminium anodized casing, Quality parts, lighter, cooler, cheaper, about the same specs, and damn freakin' reliable. Trust me, in different room temperature, probably a fan room temperature and a air-conditioned room temperature, in sudden temperature change some laptops would hang or even fail to boot up. ASUS has no such problems. Even It does not take much fall damage. For some laptops, it's hinge would be broken. Trust me,I had this experience. I had 3 laptops before this(Acer,Dell then Sony Vaio) and I know how each one works and perform and cope with the surroundings.
So everyone's like "Internal specs"
They use just good old regular parts... For the money I had at the time (3000 I made from a few weeks of filming as someone's photodouble at 14) I was into the idea. Fuck it. I have a better computer than most of you boxesboxesboxes

Not really, it only has a 2.4GHz dual core AMD processor and an ATI Radeon X850 XT. And when you say "so everyone's like 'internal specs'," it's because the case has nothing to do with performance whatsoever. The number of LEDs on your computer doesn't determine it's speed. It's the internal parts that do.
Enjoy playing TF2 on low.
Alienware, the mac of PCs.

Yep
I got an alienware as a birthday present a couple years back, and as much as I agree that they're overpriced, I haven't had much problems with it yet.
Of course, I didn't have to pay for it. :smug:

The Asus G73 has plastic casing...
And the new Asus G73SW (Sandy Bridge) has a horrible price tag on it, that starts off at a higher price than the Alienware M17x R3.
Asus G73SW starts off at $1800. Horrible price, maybe even a little more than an M17x at same config.
The best 17" laptop for the price is the Sager NP8170, starting at $1300. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8170-clevo-p170hm-p-2971.html?wconfigure=yes
You can even upgrade it to a GTX 485M.

Hey hey guys, listen! Opinions do not... *looks at username*, nevermind.
For god's sake, do NOT buy one of these damned things. Build your own as it's been said. Or if you don't have the skill, go to a local computer shop and have one custom made, it might cost a little more than a self-built, but they mainly charge for parts and labor on this, that's how i got my computer.
