So everyone's like "Internal specs"
They use just good old regular parts... For the money I had at the time (3000 I made from a few weeks of filming as someone's photodouble at 14) I was into the idea. Fuck it. I have a better computer than most of you boxesboxesboxes
You ade 3000$ of a few weeks at age 14? You better be fucking Spielberg's son.
The Asus G73 has plastic casing...
And the new Asus G73SW (Sandy Bridge) has a horrible price tag on it, that starts off at a higher price than the Alienware M17x R3.
Asus G73SW starts off at $1800. Horrible price, maybe even a little more than an M17x at same config.
The best 17" laptop for the price is the Sager NP8170, starting at $1300. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8170-clevo-p170hm-p-2971.html?wconfigure=yes
You can even upgrade it to a GTX 485M.
Damn, that was nice. Ok, you got me. Hey, but isn't it the M17x R3 spec is actually lower than the ordinary Alienware?
Damn, that was nice. Ok, you got me. Hey, but isn't it the M17x R3 spec is actually lower than the ordinary Alienware?
The start out for the R3 is "only" $1499 for a 6870M, and an i7-2630M.
The 6870M can be considered equal to the 460M, as it is a slightly downclocked 5870M (better than 460M) with better-ish architecture so it's equal to the 460M.
And what is an "ordinary" alienware?

The 6870M is a downclocked 5870M? Isn't it two totally different chips? It's just that the 6870 is based on the 5770.
Laptop GPUs are way different than desktop ones. The GTX 470M beats the GTX 480M, and actually, I think that the 6870 is actually identical to 5870.
128-bit bus. 800 Stream Proccessors. Computation power of 1.12 teraflops.
Just the 25MHz clock difference. It's the 6950s and 6970s that provide anything remotely different. And the 6970 is awesome because it is cheap while being almost as good as the GTX 485.
Except Macs look nice. Alienwares are like looking at old men's ball sacks all day.
I'm going to come on here and say I use an alienware. I had a built PC before, but this Hand-me-down alienware was a lot better then the 3 year old on I built, so I decided to use them. I still use it, and I won't build another one until this starts to get outdated.
My stepdad uses them cause he doesn't know how ot build PC's and figures they ware pretty good. Whateva works for him.
If your getting a new PC, build your own.

Sorry, let me rephrase that. What I meant was the ordinary M17X.(The normal ones with dual-gpu's)
And is it true that the GTX 485M is as powerful as a GTX 460? I read a bit about that Sager and it's pretty impressive. Imagine if it's SLI. SLI GTX 485M = SLI GTX 460 > GTX 480 or GTX 570. That's my theory :). Btw,is it available in Australia?

I don't get your point. Macs are very clean in terms of design, while Alienware especially the laptops tend to have a bloated ugly look to them.
Build your own, or if you have money to burn and are clumsy I guess a prebuilt won't hurt. Putting together a rig and then booting it up would be a nice feeling, I know its a great relief when I replace components in my rig and it boots up fine.

Yeah thanks for proving my point.
I got an Alienware m17x as a surprise present from my dad for my birthday and I do agree that it is way overpriced. Other than it being overpriced and being really heavy I don't think it's as bad as what most people are saying but it's just my opinion
Not really, it only has a 2.4GHz dual core AMD processor and an ATI Radeon X850 XT. And when you say "so everyone's like 'internal specs'," it's because the case has nothing to do with performance whatsoever. The number of LEDs on your computer doesn't determine it's speed. It's the internal parts that do.

The only game I haven't been able to run on full was Crysis. Everything else = full quality, I'm not a guy who settles for less than perfect, so I got an Alienware
SO basically, everyone can stop whining. In the long run, I have a better computer than you'll ever dream of having, so stop trying to justify yourself for being cheap and building. You did it to save money. I didn't, I had lots of money, so I did what any person with money does. Buy the Lamborghini of computers. I took one of my 8800 GT's out so a friend could use it until he got his new card, and I didn't even really notice a difference in graphics or in lag or in performance. They fucking work.
You jelly? Here's the box my pc came in

Also, I'm pretty sure 99% of people in this thread have a better setup than SLI 8800 GTs.

lol you couldn't notice the difference because the shit CPU was probably bottlenecking your 8800 GTs.

i have no idea why you are bragging about your alienware, 8800gt sli isn't exactly amazing. but whatever floats your boat
wait you spent $3,000 on a computer and only got SLI 8800 GTs? in 2009?

Because it being an Alienware means the 8800 GT performs better than any ordinary, non-Alienware 8800 GT.
lol 2008, you spent $3,000 and didn't even get 8800 GTS SLI or 3870 X2 CF.
Holy shit, I mean, I like my Alienware, but Zydos is Alienware's Mactrekkie.
Because it being an Alienware means the 8800 GT performs better than any ordinary, non-Alienware 8800 GT.
No, because it being an Alienware means it works how it should with whatever's put inside it.
All you're proving is that you find it worth arguing with me when in the end of the day, I spent more than you because I was naive, but I have an amazing computer. Get over it, jesus.

Bro I'm just trying to tell them the truth, Alienware makes a good but pricey computer. That's all. But these whining-Wendy's can't understand that.

They are
And yeah, that's what I said. You think it performs better than custom built computers with the same hardware because it's Alienware.
Not at all.
I think it performs well because it has good parts and is built to work. That's as simple as it is. I bought it because it was nice. And now I have a great computer
Get over it
alienware: let's order $1000 worth of parts from newegg. ok, let's name it the AREA-51, and build it.
alright, we're done building, that was HARD work! let's price it, let's see..$1000 parts, $2000 labor, and the case, $2500

So convenient that you've broken up just as this argument erupted, and yet, you're still friends with him/her on Steam and you still have "My love" linking to their profile on yours. Seventeen or sixteen it doesn't matter, you're still a massively ignorant person.
