What you are saying is true, but he doesn't want a fucking desktop, he wants a Laptop. Yes, for the price he has given it's likely to be shit, but it's what he wants. I found this for almost exactly £500, but it looks like you'll be playing modern games on low. Could someone give me a link to a Desktop under £500 then? [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] Oh and by the way, I wouldn't be buying it for very up to date games, just most Valve games and odd games here and there. [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] Would you guys say this would fit me? [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] Many FP'ers are suggesting to building a PC, is it as hard as I think it is? Or will I be googling it every 5 minutes?

Breaking anything is extremely hard. All you'll need is a basic guide. http://www.pcityourself.com/ is great for the building but it is outdated for hardware selection, use the facepunch pc building section, give them a budget and what you need it for and they'll compile a list for whichever shop you choose. I recommend www.scan.co.uk. I'd never touched the inside of a pc before I built mine, and it all worked fine on the first boot.
It's already been said and you've smartly decided to go with a desktop but I thought I'd chime in anyway. I bought an alienware m15x (£1,200) when I was 15 years old, it was the worst decision I've ever made in my life so far and I hope to never waste as much money as that ever again, I don't want to go into details but getting a laptop for gaming (unless you travel weekly/monthly) is a very, very bad idea and is almost daylight robbery. Building a desktop is a very smart choice and is extremely easy however you do need to make decisions on the parts you want and a solid budget, I've added you on steam so feel free to accept and I can help you out. If you decide to buy it soon I'll even ring you up and walk you through it (no creepy) if you're weary, costs me nothing seeing as you're in the UK.
Acer 5553G from John Lewis
Whats so funny? I have this laptop, it's great [editline]31st July 2011[/editline]
I'm sitting here on a Novatech X16 HD (laptop) that I bought a year ago for £525, without any OS. It was good at first, but now it struggles getting low settings, let alone the maximum I had hoped for. The processor performance is lackluster and the graphics card is already practically obsolete. Worst of all, for the UK, it's a very good laptop for the price. I am now in the process of saving for a better PC, hopefully for the release of BF3. This time I will build it myself. Laptops are horrible for gaming, especially at the prices you talk of. [editline]29th July 2011[/editline] However, if you still want a laptop, this isn't bad for the price, but you'll need your own OS.
