All I hope that I can run a Bulldozer on my Asus M4A88TD-V AM3 Mother board. Damnit and i just built it as well.
The following boards will support AM3+ with an BIOS update (From ASUS) :
Crosshair IV Extreme
Crosshair IV Formula
M4A89TD PRO/USB3
M4A89TD PRO
M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
I'm very much aware of that there's more to CPUs than clockspeed, but even an older Phenom II performs alot faster when it's pushed to 4GHz. AMD is totally revising their design (as far as I'm concerned) and I don't think they'll only increase the clock speed. If this is going to be the factory clock, there's alot to expect from them.
I'm sort of skittish to be honest. I know their customers really love the backwards compatibility stuff but keeping AM3+ at 970 pins is just going to limit features. You'll never see triple channel memory(mostly useless though) along with other features that intel users get when intel puts out their enthusiast socket.
What? Basically you are saying "it doesn't matter if that car can go faster, the way it's built is more important".
That has got to be the worst interpretation in the history of mankind. There's a huge difference between how it's built and the design of it relating to efficiency. Maybe in your twisted mind how its built=efficiency but in the real world it isn't.
Core X that runs at 2GHz and processes the same amount of info as core Y at 3GHz means that core X is vastly superior due to being designed to process more information per clock cycle than Y.
But I'm posting in a thread run by AMD biased users so I don't expect you guys to do anything but ignore the facts and praise AMD.
Even though I run AMD, I am far from a fanboy. Only thing I'm a fanboy for is Newegg.

Although yes there are other factors that go into CPU performance, such as cache and whatnot. However, I don't think AMD is gonna just improve the clockrate--they are gonna improve the whole series overall.
Intel isn't getting triple channel memory either, they're doing quad channel on LGA 2011 sockets, which is i7/i7 extreme only, and please don't be retarded and call someone a fanboy.
[editline]30th April 2011[/editline]
I'd also like to point out that Intel are incredibly close to 4 Ghz with their turbo clock (which I find the whole turbo clock to be stupid in the first place).

And now I don't feel as bad for getting a Phenom II 555 and the Formula in November. (Although I've unlocked the 555.)

I read that part, you don't need to bold it. All I commented on was how your interpenetration was clearly the result of you not reading or comprehending something because it was a misrepresentation of my position. I didn't need to comment on the part you had in bold there because I have the same opinion. I just needed to address your warped view of my opinion.

LRN2READ. Never once did I post the word fanboy. I used the words AMD biased. There's a HUGE difference between a slight brand preference(bias) and fanboyish nature(only considering AMD products)
Misrepresenting my opinion and putting words in my mouth is only going to destroy your credibility. But thanks for informing me of the switch from triple channel to quad channel memory.
Sorry, it was Falco who said fanboy, but I don't see how we're AMD bias at all, you haven't even seen how the thing performs or anything and you're already bashing it for any reason you can. I'm still thinking Sandy Bridge will be faster but since the two motherboards already out are $100 and $180, I'm guessing AMD will be much cheaper for similar performance.
You're really taking offense garrynohome.. And you say putting words in your mouth will destroy his credibility, but you're going apeshit over a mere discussions with no fanboyish views or anything.
Anyway, I love AMD's backwards compability (even though I'm on an LGA1155 build. They may lose some performance, but their price is low too, so a consumer will be able to get a cheap upgrade later on, instead of having to buy a new motherboard. I don't love AMD as an extreme performance company, but as a budget one.
Let's just leave the arguing about which is better when it comes out
At least, AMD is not annoying with processor chipsets, unlike Intel.
I always know they'll be a flamewar/debate every time garrynohome is in a thread.
dont know if anyone has said it, but there have been AM3+ mobos on gigabytes website for probably a month now
I didnt even know AM3+ i have AM3 only :D
It's for AMD's new line of CPUs. Your mobo may or may not be compatible with it.
The compatibility will depend on whether or not your motherboard maker wants to invest in it. AMD doesn't want to spend millions on something that will set them back a couple months.
Also, AMD's server platform currently has quad channel memory. Jus' sayin'

Godfuckingdamn it I have the M4A87GTD PRO/USB......
This is sad because my board wont have the update for it :( M4A87GTD.
Its okay though, the good thing about AMD boards is that they don't cost $300 for a decent one.

what you mean by this
P67a-G43 to 65 are way under that, are excellent boards and meet most people's needs
yeah AM3 boards are cheaper but not by that much
I've been running the ASRock 890FX DELUXE5 mobo for a week, it's been running like a champ and supports the new AM3+ processors coming out and triple crossfire. It also overclocks very well, it includes a power and reset CMOS button right on the board for those of you who love to tinker a bit too much. I highly recommend it. The price is a bit on the high side but the specs and stability are amazing and it will be good for 2 - 5 years depending on who you are.

Sandy Bridge will be extremely tough to beat... especially the i5-2500k.
But I have faith in AMD.

paaaaarrrtay! all! night! long! I knew there was something there behind the Hybrid marketing crap.
Pity about the X8 crossfire.
