I sense a lot of jealousy from your posts Xenos, so what if he has the money to show off. Isn't that the whole point of money in the first place? You work hard so you can earn money so you can buy something to show it off. The internet is just one big place to show off someones hard earned cash. It's the same reason people buy nice cars. You've been here for 4 years you should have learned this by now.
Ok, I know exactly 2 things from you. 1. You like to show off. 2. You are selling your own things to buy a computer overpriced that will most definitely not last you 4 years. How do I know this? Because my computer was top of the line in October and now it is not. I should really get out of this thread because you just make me angry.
I built a computer back in 2003 that had a 3000+, a 6600, and 512MB of RAM. That was pretty shitty even back then, but it lasted me until 2008 and it still played Crysis. The only upgrade I ever did to it was another $10 stick of 512 RAM. Lasting for four years and being top of the line for four years are two totally different things. This computer will definitely be useful for four years, and more than likely much longer than that.
Yeah I don't see why there is bitching about how much money he is spending. It's his money, he can do whatever the fuck he wants to do with it. BTW nice build so far.

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with this thread. It's a build log...if you don't like it, don't view it. Besides, it's the OP's money - he can spend it however he wants to. And I don't think it really matters that it won't be top of the line for too long, your equipment will never be. But that doesn't mean it will be a bad computer once it's been surpassed (@ Xenos).

C'mon guys, lets not feed the flame. Well, the thing I learned from this building log was how to test a psu real quick.
C'mon guys, lets not feed the flame. Well, the thing I learned from this building log was how to test a psu real quick.
Actually, I also learned that thread. When I made my water cooling rig I attached everything which was a bad idea. I won't make any more negative comments, it is your money and you know how to spend it best.
I found a PSU from a old Pentium 1 machine that doesn't have the 24-pin atx connector, but has a button which it turns on from. It's also very silent so I used it for my cathodes so I can keep them on my desk. (had them behind my monitor lighting up the wall nicely)

Yeah, I was planning on doing that with mine as well but I don't have enough room in the Antec 1200.
I have a car
I was talking to you, you said you didn't? You said you just barrow a car off your parents when they are not using it. Actually you said that you got the money to build this computer from selling a car your grandparents gave you.

As far as I'm concerned I have a car. And yes, I sold a car for some of the money Mini Update; I've got two orders to make before its done, the final hardware from scan (Two GTX 295 and two hard drives), and tubing/fittings/GFX water blocks from WCUK and ChilledPC. The scan order should be made in a couple of days when I've sold my old 4870X2. I need the scan order before I can start drilling the case for hard drive and and pump screw holes

This'll turn out to be a sexy computer, my friend. A sexy computer, indeed.
Epic man, Really enjoying this thread. Though it pains me to use my current setup after reading this :).
Just made a large order. Two Gigabyte GTX 295s (Changed my mind from XFX), Two 1TB Samsung HD103UJ Spinpoint F1s, Two 12" Red Cathodes and various cables. There seems to be a shortage of GTX 295s so they're on pre-order, but the other stuff will come tomorrow. Next order will be the last hopefully
woot!
Just out of curiosity what sparked the change from XFX to Gigabyte?
Just out of curiosity what sparked the change from XFX to Gigabyte?
3 year warranty on Gigabyte as opposed to 2 year on XFX. (Screw their USA Life Time shit). The only other common difference between GPU brands is fan profiles (automatic fan adjustmed at different temperatures). Which is irrelevent to me.
Oh, I thought XFX had the best warranty.
Oh, I thought XFX had the best warranty.
Depends on the country
Yeah. I know of a couple things that have lifetime warranties in the US but not elsewhere.
Do EVGA still do their step-up program? Or is it completely redundant?
