OP you have 2 options for multimonitor gaming, you can either get an AM3 SLi mobo and a second 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131637 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261088 (total $260) or just get a single card with eyefinity e.g http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161355 with a displayport to DVI adapter really the 6950 is the obvious choice, even assuming you have a sufficient PSU for 460 SLi it still works out at a similar price and you avoid any problems of multiple cards (e.g increased heat/power consumption, compatiability issues etc.) [editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
just did some research, my mobo has an nForce 790x chipset

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?p_id=vk9pqxby9mjo0whm M4A79XTD EVO Chipset - AMD 790X/SB750
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
Well I'm not saying it isn't, in fact I'm almost positive that it IS for marketing, but it doesn't change the fact that you need a mobo they say you do in order to use Surround. Which is why I've lost most faith in nVidia.
except being marketing bullshit means it does sod all and doesn't stop you or enable you to do anything if it did something it would be a feature and not just marketing bullshit
okay so the bottom line is, I can't do this with one 460 and I need a different mobo if I want to do It at all
Correct. Your best bet is to sell the 460 and get an ATi card. Also what reapninja said, get the 6950 if you choose to sell the 460, awesome card, my friend has 2 of them in Crossfire and it CRUSHES everything. And even before he got the second one it was still awesome.
Correct. Your best bet is to sell the 460 and get an ATi card.
I just bought this like 6 weeks ago :colbert:
I just bought this like 6 weeks ago :colbert:
yeah but you bought a 460 slow edition so you can't have done your research very well
I just bought this like 6 weeks ago :colbert:
If you wanted to do multi monitors maybe you should have done your research BEFORE you purchased the products.
I just bought this like 6 weeks ago :colbert:
It's unfortunate, but if you want triple monitor gaming, it's your best bet.
yeah but you bought a 460 slow edition so you can't have done your research
It was a good card, and within budget
Well, the 460 doesn't really matter anymore does it? Your best bet is still to sell it and grab a 6950.
yeah but you bought a 460 slow edition so you can't have done your research very well
I swear the 460 SE is the cards that didn't have enough properly functioning. cores with a wider memory bus.
It was a good card, and within budget
the 768MB is better for the same/lower price the only time the SE is a better choice is for specific circumstances where more VRAM is more useful than a better performing card
It was a good card, and within budget
I'm pretty sure the normal 460 is the exact same price. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline]
the 768MB is better for the same/lower price the only time the SE is a better choice is for specific circumstances where more VRAM is more useful than a better performing card
And honestly if you need a lot of VRAM you're just going to buy a higher end card.
alright Ill just get a new case first then move on to the new card
I can't really stand having a game on more then one monitor. Dual monitors is enough, one for games, the second for pretty much everything else. It's not like nVidia cards are horrible for only having two ports, and if you're going to run a resolution that big anyways you probably need a little extra power.
so what about dual monitors? can I at least use the two inputs I already have?
Yeah dual monitors won't be any problem at all.
alright I might try that instead but the only annoying thing is the bezel of both monitors is right smack in the middle unless you put one off to the side. unfortunately, symmetry is one of my major pet peeves so this is gonna be a little hard to do
Ugh.. Sure, triple screens might be cool and all, but ever since I got this Dell Ultrasharp 23" screen worth of 300 euros, I can't say I'm missing out on much! It is fucking SWEET! Now three of these would be way beyond my imagination..
I'm on a double monitor setup, and I can say that I don't desire any more screen space. Having 3840x1080 is enough for me. I only game on one monitor though, essentially making the other one useless midgame. That's probably better than putting the bezel in the middle of the game.

I would rather have 3 monitors so I could have shit loads of desktop space and not have any useless monitors during gaming
I picked up a 8600 gt from a friend because he got a 450 a while back. its cool having all this space with 4 monitors but it would be nice to game with them... oh well, guess that will be with my next build.
How the fuck could you game on two monitors? The bezel would be right down the middle of the screen. Aiming wouldn't be possible because it would split the crosshair between the two monitors.
Projectors. Other than that I really could not say.
I wanna try that projector thing but I have no where to mount it and its expensive as fuck
Sort of relevant: You can't use 3 monitors with SLIPatch. Regardless of which card(s) you plug the first two into, once you attach the third they all go black until reboot. For one or two monitors however, SLIPatch works perfectly for me.
I didn't rread all the posts maybe someone has already sudgested it but you could use your gtx460 for two monitors and then the integrated graphics card for the third monitor you could buy some cheap PCI (old normal PCI, not PCI-e) card and use it for your third monitor, because you dont need SLI or crossfire for multiple monitors or multiple gpus :)
but you could use your gtx460 for two monitors and then the integrated graphics card for the third monitor
I wish this were true
This is sort related, but could I have dual screens with a GTX 460? edit Didn't read, by QuAtT's post, I take it I can?

in my previous post I meant you can use triple monitors in windows without SLI and with different gpus, but you cant play games (at least not in full screen mode) on all three monitors
