Making a thread out of this because my post in the last ISP thread didn't get replied to.
I'm currently on Tiscali (:suicide:) and I'm looking to change next month. However, the choice at our exchange is rather limited:
BT (LOLOLOL)
AOL
TalkTalk (CPW)
Sky Broadband / Easynet
Tiscali
Orange
So what's the best deal out of these select few? (Don't say o2 or be, because then you're going to get so many books you'll have them flowing out of your hair). I should say that TalkTalk have contacted us with an offer to pick us up to ADSL2+ with a 14 day cooling period.
Also bengley's hair is curly.
Orange has really bad customer service.
Why are you limited to only those?
Exchange. I'm not moving before you ask
Don't rate me bad reading when you didn't answer my question.
Why is your exchange limited to only those ISPs? If it's a BT exchange then you can use any ISP that provides their network through BT Wholesale.
Even though pretty much every decent provider operates through LLU. Besides, who were you going to suggest?
Entanet, UKFSN are great.

Yes but that doesn't mean you're limited to just LLU providers at your exchange. I'd rather be with a decent 8-meg ADSL2 service than a shitty, over-subscribed 24-meg unbundled service.
well if you could get any more isp's go with one im on call BeThere there pretty good, have good customer service and seeing as i live far from the exchange im still able to get 7mb/s with them
but out of the ones on your list i would choose talk talk
I use Virgin myself, fast and it goes without problems or downtime.
They're all pretty horrible. I really wouldn't go with TalkTalk, Sky is probably the best of that lot.
Problem is pricing, mainly - we want a decent phone service at the same time (tiscali give us unlimited calls + shitternet for £25 with the line rental included), and we'd like to keep the price as near to that as possible. Our current plan is to get TalkTalk to confirm the 14 day cooloff period, take them, and see what it's like after activation (if it's not up to speed, we'll simply cancel in the cooloff and go Sky or someone else).

but our local library only has so many books! :crying:

prices are OTT and generally only do ADSL1, not ADSL2+
They're all pretty horrible. I really wouldn't go with TalkTalk, Sky is probably the best of that lot.
BT's not bad, just expensive. But Sky is probably the best one.

No, I found BT to be horrible. Being throttled down to 512k after 6PM on a line capable of the full 8mbit is what I call horrible.
Only those choices?
You call that limited?
Finland basically has Sonera and Elisa, every other service works through them.

We don't get that. We pay for 8Mbit and I get around 6, which I find acceptable. My only complaint is they throttle torrents in the evenings, but I don't torrent much anyway so it's not really a problem. Maybe I would be less favourable of them if I was paying the bills as they are expensive, and I wouldn't go with them if it was up to me, but they're not as bad as people make out. There's no downtime, my ping is low and the service overall is reasonably quick.
