You all just don't know how to take care of your things.
I have an original xbox 360 from launch. The only problem i have encountered is that the cd drive gets stuck from time to time and all i have to do to fix it is tap it while it's trying to open. I use the thing a lot too.
And this is what gets me. I take damn good care of my shit, yet my 360 is the only object I have that tends to break. Fuck. Even my psp which I have dropped so many times hasn't broken yet.
[editline]07:02PM[/editline]
And I find out my last sentence contradicts one of my other ones... Hah.
[editline]07:03PM[/editline]
That's beside the point anyway.

One more edit for the shits.
I still find it pretty rediculous how people go "My 360's a launch console and havent died". In this day and age, shouldn't we demand that our console's work normally when treated good?
I have a fully functional SNES and a Nintendo 64 and they both have been treated like shit at times. Controller's have been thrown on the floor and AT THE FUCKING CONSOLE'S THEMSELVES without them malfunctioning.
So why should you have to worry about cutting edge modern console's break down while you're just playing normally? It's bullshit if you ask me.
You could throw controllers at a 360 and it wouldn't malfunction either and if you shove a SNES in a cupboard and regularly play it for 8 hours straight then I'm fairly sure there will be side effects.
The technology has advanced and is currently alot more advanced that a N64 or SNES. This usually means they have more things to break.
So, Microsoft has responded to a recent survey that found that the failure rate for its Xbox 360 video game console is an astonishing 54.2 percent ... by not denying that it's a face. Here's the response:
"Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry. We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems. Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of 'most played console' and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out."
Um. Wow. So... It has a great warranty (which its unreliability makes a requirement). And they're making it more reliable over time. There you go, folks.

54%....What the fuck Microsoft. Then they call it superior. Hahahahahahahaha. Morons..
Does anyone else find this number downright hilarious?
They don't call it superior based on anything but the games and services offered in the event that the console works as advertised, which is often.
They don't call it superior based on anything but the games and services offered in the event that the console works as advertised, which is often.
since when do they advertise it with "has a large chance to break within a year because we're shit at designing consoles and fail to fix these designs"?
Read: in the event.
this is why i got a PS3, no hardware errors of any kind.
Actually a common problem with the PS3 although it's not shouted out as much, is that the bluray laser stops working, it's common enough that there's alot of sites and stores offering "PS3 laser replacement services" since the laser itself is not easy to get a hold of, but if you can buy one (expect it to cost alot) it's not too hard to replace it yourself.
I replaced my xbox from launch a few months ago but that's because I accidentally knocked it over when a disc was in it. It just made more sense to buy a refurbished xbox than to fix the old one.
The technology has advanced and is currently alot more advanced that a N64 or SNES. This usually means they have more things to break.
Yes, but it still shouldn't break anyway.
I got my xbox on launch DAY and it has yet to have an issue. I know people who have had problems though, and I pity them.
I know people who have xboxs, I pity them
It is, I still have 2 super Nintendo's that work fine yet I took my xbox and put it on a golden pillow surrounded by beautiful women and lots of fans and it still fucking breaks.:eng99:
The women's body heat overheated the 360 and the pillows blocked the fans.
the first gen 360s had i high failure rate but the newer consoles have a much lower failure rate
Incorrect. At launch, it was around 33%. The Elite failure rate is somewhere between 17-31%. Still very high. Now the regular console is 54%? It has increased its failure rate.
My half-broken Xbox 360 is still alive and kicking.
ive had my xbox for 3 years. Not a single problem with it. Nor has any of my friends had one of thiers break.
My microsoft is better then your microsoft :I
This. I've never had a problem with mine.
This. I've never had a problem with mine.
Yeah it'll come when you don't expect it, happened to me and I have had it since launch. Died couple months ago. :(
I had a 360 from launch and it died right before the 3 year warranty ended.
I still have mine from launch, and haven't had a problem.
Never had a problem with it either. I also know a lot of people who own one, and only one of those guys has had to buy a new 360. But he had it for a good while to.

Because the older consoles that didn't fail at launch are now all failing.
I've gone through 5 xboxes, and some are new gen. they all fucking failed within 3 months or less. I love the 360! :(
Ill buy the PS3 i guess, fucking love Skate 1 and 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4.
and halo 3 is overun by 12 year olds.
I've never had a single Nintendo console fail on me on it's own.
My PS1 and fat PS2 both wouldn't read discs anymore.
My two 360's RRoD'd themselves just from me playing GTA4 so much.
However, My PS3 is still going strong, and all my cartridge-based consoles still work fine.
This is a prime example of why I'm a PC gamer
if you shove a SNES in a cupboard and regularly play it for 8 hours straight then I'm fairly sure there will be side effects.
I used to do that all the time as a kid.
It still works to this damn day!
I've bought two Xbox 360's.
The first one worked, for a while, then it RROD'ed, so I sent it away to Germany for repairs.
Came back after 2 months.
Well, then when I played it, I realized that it raped my discs.
Then, almost half of my games (mind you, I had over 50) were pretty much fucked.
Well, I sold it to a dumb guy, and bought a new one.
Then after a while, I realized I shouldn't have gotten an Xbox 360 to begin with.
I sold my new Xbox 360 and all my games, and therefore I gained the wisdom to take initiative.
I bought a PS3, the never-ever-fucking-up-machine-that-is-silent-and-smooth.
I was happy, and I am happy now, are YOU happy?
Well, if my 360 dies I'm buying a PS3 Slim.
Take that, Microsoft.
I used to have a launch model, it failed on me during 2009. But it took 5 days or less to get it back!
I had a 360 fry on me. Mind you, after I had been dicking around on the inside and physically removing the disk after loading the game. (This was so we could play a lan game with only one copy of the game) I don't think it RROD'd because of the dicking, but Microsoft still replaced the guts of the console for free despite me shoving a huge throbbing cock through the warranty.
But yeah. Microsoft has had some notorious quality control issues for hardware. It's almost as if they had no previous experience manufacturing hardware beyond simple optical mice! Who'da thought? PR won't openly admit it, but the simple warranty extension was a tacit acknowledgement of shitty hardware quality. I'm willing to bet that they would have lost much less money if they hadn't cheaped out on the hardware.
Mine stop reading games and I tried replacing the laser but it didn't work, so I sold it on ebay for $60, which is damn good, because on ebay you can buy the console only for $80 and it keeps getting cheaper.
I'm willing to bet that they would have lost much less money if they hadn't cheaped out on the hardware.
I agree, but back in the day, Microsoft lost money on every 360 sold.
However, they did make that up through gouging customers with ridiculous game prices.
I don't see why people make a huge fuss about it.
They replace all failed units for free.

Only if you still have warranty and it can take a few weeks.
