if I make pacman recursively remove orphaned packages will I fuck up my system? I wouldn't ask but since the space they take up is so much I'm hesitant to delete such a huge part of my system

If you recently uninstalled gnome that looks about right and you should be safe.
In the future remove packages with "-Rs" and it will automatically take care of this.
Wow, no matter what theme I install it doesn't seem to work and it doesn't even show in the themes tab after isntalling, re installing just tells me it wont move to the directory. Just.. Perfect.

This happens a lot. It is just that it is installed, but doesn't have an actual theme entry. What you have to do, is to choose a random theme, click personalize, and choose the parts of the theme.

Oh nevermind, I didn't see the PPA!

That's what I'm used to atleast.
I don't know, but I think it is related to the GTK theme.

And are you using Cairodock or something?
Just shorcuts with two spaces for name :v: and covergloobus which i got finally to run properly.
Oh god, cfdisk created a seemgly perfect partition table, then I've found out that my 25 GB partition was actually 98 MB with parted. This has caused me a lot of headache because I couldn't install the system. Thank god we have so many different softwares for one task!
Edit: Fuck! Installed syslinux, ran syslinux-install_update -i then -m (boot flag was already set with cfdisk I guess), reboot, then after the POST a blinking cursor shows up and it does nothing.
I have to burn a ArchLinux disk now (installed the system from the same hdd from another fat32 partition with grub4dos)
Okay so what I'm thinking is my Minecraft might run slow because of my drivers? I got an ATI Radeon something, is there a way to check up if it's installed/enabled or something? I know in Ubuntu Unity i just wen't system settings and then software something and I could see a tab saying additional drivers, I've been searching for it a while now.
Help me, guys... MATE borked.
There are no panels and preferred apps do not launch.
It's probably an issue with mate-conf.

Runs pretty well in WINE IIRC, but not sure about wheels / pads. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3755
Theese drivers are annoying, XORG.conf?

Shoot - how do I stop my updater from updating? I'm going to have to leave in five minutes and I'm at school.

It's possible the disk had some residual GUID Partition Tables just laying around, and when you cfdisked it, you merely replaced the legacy/protective MBR. Parted uses GPT so it could've recognized the GPT and ignored the MBR. If you messed around with parted, the partition tables got borked even more. Upon running syslinux install the tables were so thoroughly buttdestroyed that the install had no idea whether the system was using MBR or GPT and it likely just decided to shred the tables and shit all over the hard drive
[editline]31st October 2012[/editline]
The moral of the story: don't use both cfdisk and parted.

Woah, what's the catch?
Nothing I guess, do yourself a favour and download it for every distro and back it up somewhere :v:

The .bin just errs out, so I guess I'll wait until I get the email and ask for support :suicide:
I really only want it for a couple of old windows games which don't run so well on my old desktop, but if something comes up in the future it will be nice to have it. Thanks a million for the heads up, I'd never have noticed it!
Also it's nice to be rid of console-kit!
Oh god, HP.
I googled my laptop type name and "linux" and this was one of the results.

and then a FAQ on FreeDOS.

Do people actually, you know, use FreeDOS?
Wow CrossOver is a pile of crap. Nowhere near as easy to use as WINE is.
Why would you pay for this crap instead of just using WINE?
so I compiled 3.6.4 on Halloween night

I installed Ubuntu 12.whatever-the-newest-is, and I'm actually liking it. It feels a lot more usable, with the underlying powerful terminal at my fingertips.
Unity is sort of annoying, but I'm getting used to it. When I'm actually motivated, however, I'm making an openbox session to emulate my previous crunchbang install's appearance. Sadly, it's time-consuming building the entire openbox system back to the way I liked it before.
