Anyone here running ATI proprietary drivers (fglrx)? If so, what's your Xorg cpu usage when you're browsing or dragging around a window slowly. On ubuntu (and linux mint with Mate, cinnamon or xfce) my Xorg uses about 80% when dragging around a terminal window slowly. On the FOSS drivers it's around 20-30%. Don't really know what the problem is.
Use your favourite AUR helper to install the packages manually. There aren't that many and makepkg lists all the missing ones.
There are quite a few of them, and a couple refuse to install for various other reasons. I really wish more was statically linked, all of these dependencies are hell. Again I'm just going to wait until I have an invite to get steam running without wine.
Guys guys Open steam via Friends
steam steam://open/friends
Open the library window (Use another terminal if steam is running in the foreground) (This call will return immediately so you can just close that terminal)
steam steam://open/games
Go to View -> Big Picture Mode it works [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] I'm just fucking amazed at this it's barely even laggy [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] I could use this as my new shell [t]http://i.imgur.com/aRIB9.png[/t]

OK guys haven't been in here for ages. Does steam run good under arch since I heard it's in the AUR and also how easy is awesome to set up in arch, quick or tedious?
OK guys haven't been in here for ages. Does steam run good under arch since I heard it's in the AUR and also how easy is awesome to set up in arch, quick or tedious?
It was tedious about 20 minutes ago, I think it's fixed now.
fuck I tried to install the ia32-libs via both terminal and software center and I get this
The following packages have unmet dependencies: ia32-libs : Depends: ia32-libs-multiarch but it is not installable E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
[editline]6th November 2012[/editline] and yes I've tried apt-get upgrade and update and it did not help
Debian package management is fucking horrible sometimes
Well, too fucking bad I have wiped Linux off my SSD just to play some Battlefield 3 when something like THAT is currently happening... Why I must always pick those worst moments?
nick@shuttlecraft ~ $ steam ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "public/steambootstrapper_english.txt". me and a guy on #gentoo are [del]conspiring[/del] collaborating on getting this working i recently had the idea of running it through gdb
After an Arch upgrade to Gnome 3.6 I'm now going to try to get steam running :v: The AUR thing seems to depend on gcc-libs-multilib, but I have lib32-gcc-libs. This gonna be madness

fuck yeah solved my problem with apt-get -f install
wait, it requires pulseaudio this is going to be suicide for my sound system
That wizardry friends link does not make the popup go away. :( Has the bug been fixed? [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] Oh, silly me. Had to turn it off first.
lavacano what, internet explorer in Linux. Now I have seen it all.
i've been the project lead for almost a year now [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] i even bought a title (though that has since been overwritten)
Maybe i just never saw it, also your new title made my day. But it's a bit harsh. [sp]lies[/sp]
I'm just glad steam left a hole for everyone to play! I always thought that steam:// protocol was a waste, but now I don't! [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] also, had to make a rule to float all class=Steam because they sure as hell do not like being tiled :pwn:
Guys i need some clarification when i do a logins -p in solaris 10, it says user10 has an empty password field. is "empty password field" same as "no password"? however, when i do a cat /etc/passwd | grep user10 user10:x:blah The "x" means that the encrypted password is stored in the /etc/shadow file right? however when i grep user10 in etc/shadow it says the password is not there. How can, if user10 has an empty password field, have an "x" in /etc/passwd?
I believe that means that no password has been assigned, so the user can't login. Just checked my system, and all accounts have an "x" in passwd, but only my account and root have passwords in shadow. Trying to log in as a user without a shadow password prompted me for the password, but always failed.
The x might simply be a remnant from when passwd wasn't encrypted? I suppose it might've happened at some point in UNIX life, and then every account with encryption had x instead of the plaintext. Since now we always encrypt, no need for anything else than x.
I decided to upgrade to Debian unstable packages, with a few hiccups here and there (mostly testing other desktops, still don't like gnome3). There is 1 more that I can't seem to solve though, the theme I use produces close buttons in really strange places... See here: And here is how it should look: Anyone got any ideas on how I can solve it?
Does anyone know which games will work in the Linux steam? I've gotten Dungeons of Dredmor to work, but others like Serious Sam 3 are downloadable but they don't include the executable. I haven't tried TF2 yet, but its supposed to work.
Does Valve email you if you get in the Linux Steam beta or am I stuck just trying to log in every day until it works
Does Valve email you if you get in the Linux Steam beta or am I stuck just trying to log in every day until it works
Got bad news for you... If you were in the beta, they would have email'd you by now.
Got bad news for you... If you were in the beta, they would have email'd you by now.
alright i'll wait for a wave two then
umm anyone knows how I can go back to the experimental drivers? [t]http://ubuntuone.com/16lH5Ulz8lyDN7hpEQdh8M[/t]
