It is, though. Not like people (including guide writers) don't make mistakes. [editline]18th November 2012[/editline] Also the GRUB2 install guide never tells you to do grub-mkconfig (Or if it does, I skipped that part) Reinstalling Arch was quite amusing due to this
it does tell you to do "grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg" but its a bit hidden.
It is, though. Not like people (including guide writers) don't make mistakes.
how the fuck is it my fault if the guy making the guide made the mistake
I'm sure you did something wrong when partitioning or installing/configuring the bootloader.
I partitioned exactly the same way I partition Gentoo installs, and Gentoo takes it fine and how stupid do you have to be to screw up telling grub where your kernel lives [editline]18th November 2012[/editline] i wasn't even doing anything interesting with the boot either, it was supposed to be a regular boot
Uh, guys, I understand that there's a heated discussion going on around here, but.. nobody's addressed my simple problem 2 pages ago. If you please..
I didn't respond because I've given up on themeing. Just leave all the defaults and get redshift/equivalent to adjust warmth to make any and all interfaces usable.
Yes, it is just the worst. Everybody should just use Ubuntu.
this is literally the stupidest post i'll read this week and it's only Sunday. congrats.
"archlinux is bad, because I can't install it" I'm sure you did something wrong when partitioning or installing/configuring the bootloader.
So you don't actually know what went wrong, but you're already blaming specific parts of his setup. Am I missing something here, or are you that special kind Linux users we all love and cherish?
"archlinux is bad, because I can't install it" I'm sure you did something wrong when partitioning or installing/configuring the bootloader.
i have installed it before. it's not hard to setup. I just thought it was a shitty system as a whole.
are we arguing over distros really really
Is Red Hat still used anymore?
the enterprise version(the only version they support anymore), yes
lol R-HELL
are we arguing over distros really really
only over whether arch is any good [sp]it's not[/sp] we haven't covered any other distros but I believe the consensus is they're all good
Is Red Hat still used anymore?
The distros? Not by desktop people. But they're doing good enough commercially that they're in the billions and contribute an UNBELIEVABLE amount to the FOSS community.
I didn't respond because I've given up on themeing. Just leave all the defaults and get redshift/equivalent to adjust warmth to make any and all interfaces usable.
Right, guess I'm on my own then. The reason why I've chosen Linux was because of the ability of customizing anything you see on the screen. Guess GIMP will be my buddy in this situation then.
Why is ArchLinux suddenly bad?
TF2 (Not the beta) open for everyone using the Steam Beta Client, doesn't matter if you didn't get an invite, you can still install/play it, and from what i've heard, it runs very good.

Neither of which is available in the eOS repositories :( I'm considering switching back for a bit to Sabayon, and try it out there.
Why is ArchLinux suddenly bad?
It isn't, we're kidding.
"archlinux is bad, because I can't install it" I'm sure you did something wrong when partitioning or installing/configuring the bootloader.
I don't think people want (or should be forced) to do that in 2012
I don't think people want (or should be forced) to do that in 2012
You don't have to partition anything if you already have the right partitions, and the installation guide guides you through the configuration files.
I don't think people want (or should be forced) to do that in 2012
I'm pretty sure they weren't forced to download a distribution for expert Linux users.
I don't think people want (or should be forced) to do that in 2012
I find it rather hard to run my OS without a filesystem
I find it rather hard to run my OS without a filesystem
What do you mean? I always read and write raw files directly to and from RAM.
Comparing distros is stupid. I love arch. Its the DIY distro that you can learn a lot from that you cant learn using Debian or Ubuntu. I would like to say that if you cant master Arch then dont come in here and compain; what you should do insted is go back to living under your rock. I happily run three Arch servers that work perfectly. Please don't state that because the year is 2012 then you should not have to do A or B; you should read up on what the philosophies are behind Arch and who the distro is aimed at before saying such ridiculous things. I will add anyone to my ignore list that decides they should post about how bad Arch is or because this is 2012 then you should not have to do A.
So I went with Crunbang after all. Cinnarch had problems and Archbang was meh.
TF2 (Not the beta) open for everyone using the Steam Beta Client, doesn't matter if you didn't get an invite, you can still install/play it, and from what i've heard, it runs very good.
Is anyone having issues? TF2 downloaded fine, but it crashes whenever I start it. I get through the valve-guy and the logo, but when I get to the random still image with sepia filter (I think this is while the main menu is loading) the screen flickers and then TF2 exits. The only error is this:
/home/scott/Steam/SteamApps/rayjingstorm/Team Fortress 2/hl2.sh: line 72: 725 Segmentation fault ${GAME_DEBUGGER} "${GAMEROOT}"/${GAMEEXE} "$@"
Which isn't much help in of itself and I'm not sure how to open the steam .dmp file. Any ideas?
I can get to the main menu, everything works fine But my mouse is offtrack by like 400 pixels for whatever reason [editline]20th November 2012[/editline] ;_;
What do you mean? I always read and write raw files directly to and from RAM.
I write my files directly to disk with a magnetic needle.
I can get to the main menu, everything works fine But my mouse is offtrack by like 400 pixels for whatever reason [editline]20th November 2012[/editline] -snip- ;_;
I had input-alignment issues with Steam windows when i3 would tile them outside of their comfort zone... make sure its either fullscreen or windowed without external constraints on its size. If these conditions are already met then I have :v: no idea, as I can't even get TF2 to run yet
I got it to run almost perfectly (minus AA really bringing the FPS down) and don't worry it usually averages at like 80fps scrots just kill everything though
I've got an HD 4850, using the closed-source drivers on Ubuntu, and I was getting some issue with various OpenGL features not being supported, so I've been trying to uninstall fglrx following this guide here. Only problem is that when using the second command apt-get yells at me about fglrx-modaliases having no installation candidate. What does that mean, and what can I do to get around that? (or if anyone knows if there would be a way to get TF2 working with fglrx, that would be good as well, but that's more of a linux steam question)
