As I've understood it, wine translates non-native calls to native-calls. So you're right that it "runs" native code, if by running you mean translates.
Non-native OS calls. It translates the calls to Windows APIs to the relevant APIs on your Linux system. This is done via libraries that share their names with the Windows ones, essentially making Wine an alternate WinAPI implementation. It's all native code.
Anybody checked out Drawers for Unity? Cleans the place up a bit.
I live in Denmark, hit me up if you need some help with those kind of things. I've been in those waters for quite a while.
I'm not sure how much help i can get. This is the only ISP unless i want 0,2 mbit through the phone cables or cell phone networks. [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] Btw, an ip address is 30 dkk a month, i can try asking about IPv6, but is anyone able to connect to that?
Installed arch on my old laptop, it has no internets. What do? It was working when I was running off the live CD, so I guess there's something I need to install to make it work. Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000. I'm not so worried about the wireless (although having it working would be nice), but I need the ethernet port to be working at least.

I hope wine 1.5 doesn't overtake 1.4 anytime soon. 1.4 is more optimized for games, at least for me. 1.5 has made some good improvements, but 1.4 is better overall.
is anyone able to connect to that?
Anyone who also has IPv6 access, which is a number significantly less than that of IPv4 at the moment. However, the number of users should hopefully grow more over time (and those who don't have native access to IPv6 through their ISPs can use tunnels such as HE.net's free tunnel or Teredo). It's not like it hurts to ask anyways! But you really should try out gupnp-tools and see if you can get a port "forwarded" to you using that, it would interest me for educational reasons.
Does 'ip addr' mention eth0?
Only when I'm running off the live CD.
why
its for multi CPU systems like large servers I'd assume
Alternatively, because it can is also a viable reason.
Alternatively, because it can is also a viable reason.
Yes that's the good thing about Linux, it scales from toasters to supercomputers.
I'm hoping to compile Linux for my supertoaster, but it has hot-swappable heating elements. Can I remove and replace the boot-strap element while toasting?
I'm hoping to compile Linux for my supertoaster, but it has hot-swappable heating elements. Can I remove and replace the boot-strap element while toasting?
Yes, but you'll have to recompile your crumb tray.
Yes, but you'll have to recompile your crumb tray.
Ah, I see, I must have excluded the crumb tray module. [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] Woops, just had to load it with modprobe. Also I got a kernel panic when the toast got stuck in the wire rack. I had to pull the plug and fork the kernel while offline to get it pried loose.
There's only a toaster running BSD can't remember which BSD tho
What's going on with the browser in this image? I would love to browse dark themed or low contrast.
That is one of the themes for AppchanX
How far has WINE come in the past 3 years? I haven't used it in about that long. Was thinking I might dual boot Arch with my Windows 8 machine.
personally I disagree with the whole idea of installing linux onto a toaster It's much better to install it on a glowstick.
I want to install GNU/Linux onto my Microwave. it my fridge :v:
So I installed Arch with xfce as my DE. [editline]13th December 2012[/editline] Not really a fan of xfce to be honest.
So I installed Arch with xfce as my DE. [editline]13th December 2012[/editline] Not really a fan of xfce to be honest.
Then get a good display manager (like gdm) and install all the DE's you want! GDM should auto-detect them and let you select which to boot into from a drop-down menu during login. This will let you test drive DE's with ease; find which one you like and uninstall the others.
Cinnamon maybe. [editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
Then get a good display manager (like gdm) and install all the DE's you want! I did not know that gdm allows you to do that. Very handy, i'll switch to autostarting gdm over kdm.
So I've been trying goomwwm. It's neat.
Doesn't KDM let you choose the session type also?
Doesn't KDM let you choose the session type also?
Yup.
