Redshift just gives me errors :(
[editline]16th December 2012[/editline]
Oh nevermind, installed it again and it works fine.
Thanks this is awesome.
I just can't believe how harsh the standard color scheme of most sites is... offwhite on gray is so much easier on the eyes, but rather than making custom style sheets for every site its easier to just change the overall temperature of the screen.
It would be a fun prank to get someone hooked on it then add a cron job to turn it off every so often :v:
Oh wow, Redshift looks weird as fuck.
I'll give it a try though.

you get used to it
Wow, that's amazing and my eyes don't hurt much anymore.
[editline]16th December 2012[/editline]
It even works on tty!
[QUOTE=joshjet;38833379]I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread to post in, but it's a small linux question, so here goes. The EDID on my main monitor is broken, so ubuntu is recognising it as a generic monitor. I have the EDID in .raw format, but I need help editing Xorg.conf. Here's the text from the thread, It just goes into a bit more detail. Sorry if this is out of place.
[editline]14th December 2012[/editline]
Oh god that's huge.[/QUOTE]
Are you using HDMI? My monitor doesn't like HDMI and doesn't seem to give EDID stuff when I use it.
how do i use wget on a mac
So gnomes GUI has been freezing on me but I'm really liking it. It's good for lazy people like me, just have to swipe the mouse and you get a list of commonly used packages/currently running ones.
Tried the proprietary drivers. Bad idea.
Never seen so many errors.

Might want to ask that in a Mac thread, not the Linux thread.
Have you tried "man wget"?
Why is it that Ubuntu seems to provide longer battery life than Windows 7? My laptop lasted more than 9 hours not used but only 5 in Windows 7, this is wizardry...
[editline]16th December 2012[/editline]
Infact I've had this machine on since last night :v:

That is indeed perplexing since Ubuntu is a power hungry monster (fucking Compiz) especially paired with some graphics drivers (anything not Intel integrated graphics)

AMD graphics drivers, Ubuntu 12,10 Quental Quatzal. I'm very confused...
Not even my Lenovo SL510 could run more than 4hours on Ubuntu, only a 3 in Windows 7. This machine fucking rocks!
My T61 can only run for about 2 hours 30 mins on any OS :saddowns:
though really I blame the battery, its half-dead :v:

It ran smoothly on this machine till it upgraded to 12.10. I can't use the Gnome GUI anymore sadly. I'm stuck with Unity.

You could always try E17 :v: (yes I will keep pushing it)

Any alternatives which is quite light as well?
[editline]16th December 2012[/editline]
What the fuck, it doesn't want to use any other desktop environment! The fuck have you done Ubuntu

E17's as light as it gets without sacrificing functionality, but there's always LXDE or XFCE. And what's wrong? What do you mean you can't use any other desktop environment?
Redshift refuses to start, telling it can't find the location, but the location is set in my clock. Using Mint 14 64 bit mate.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that is running Ubuntu. The battery life was around 3-4 hours in Windows 7 although in Ubuntu I get an extra 2 hours.

Yeah I can't use any other. It uses Unity instead if I choose Gnome or E17.

Did you try running 'redshift -h' and read about setting the location? Redshift doesn't use YOUR system stuff, you'll have to set that manually.

Archbang as a server? Really?
I don't know why, but I really like ubuntu as a server distro (Server edition)
Also, OpenSUSE is great as a server.
[editline]16th December 2012[/editline]
Linux Kernel 3.8 sure looks promising.

Also, they ditched i386 support in 3.8

I'm an idiot and uses Gentoo/Sabayon as my server system. Rolling releases I just couldn't live without :v:
arch server erry day
if something doesn't break when I update then it's just not fun
Wouldn't Debian testing be better for servers?
I mean Arch isn't really known for its stability through updates.
Debian stable is the best for servers. stable like a rock and year old packages

But it's not as fun to update :v:
