I just make -j4, gets it done super-quick.

If four hours is "super-quick" that's what I do as well
Well it's more like three anyway and that's with PGO so it gets compiled twice
For such a newbie-friendly Linux distribution, Ubuntu has given me a remarkably hard time.
Ubuntu desktop and server installs consistently hang, break the partitioning or the boot process. I actually managed to install Ubuntu Desktop once, but the first system update broke the boot. The installer's partitioning tool is so bad it can't properly deal with partitions it created on its own, much less fix what others broke. If the root partition is fucked, you can't even mount root and use your own tools. Should the system actually install correctly and boot, the more trivial things like sound and WLAN are unlikely to work. X is broken by default (one of the default metapackages included some package with a config that made X think there are no monitors).
I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've spent more time trying to fix broken Linux installations on my laptop than I've spent using working ones.

That... shouldn't really happen. I only got Wifi problems with 8.04 and that was fixed eventually.

Have you been using the same installation media the whole time?
Have you been using the same installation media the whole time?
No. I have desktop and server images on USB keys. The installers share a lot of the problems, though only Ubuntu Desktop manages to break itself upon first system update. The desktop live environment works pretty well, though it has issues with sound as well. The images were downloaded using BitTorrent which I trust to check the hashes, so I doubt the images were corrupt.
I think it's something related to the flash drive. Maybe the drive itself, maybe the USB you're plugging it into, something.
Because I only have issues with the images in a VM, and that's probably just because I'm not giving the VM enough juice.
I haven't ever had any problems with Parted :?
I am trying to run Linux Mint Cinammon in virtualbox and it is really slow
Is there anything I can do about it, or is it a virtualbox problem?

turn off any compositing effects and anything graphically intensive

Guest additions/tools are installed right?
Any btrfs users in here? More specifically: any btrfs users in here who converted their ext4 partition to btrfs? I feel like attempting this on my Arch install but the wiki isn't very detailed about it.
None of the btrfs users are available for commenting at the time, they're still recovering from a filesystem crash.
I use btrfs for everything...
AND I LOVE IT.
/dev/sda7 on /src type btrfs (rw,relatime,space_cache)
/dev/sda7 on /srv type btrfs (rw,relatime,space_cache)
/dev/sda7 on /backup type btrfs (rw,relatime,space_cache)
Fuck yeah subvolumes.
I might try btrfs if I decide to just wipe my partition table instead of resizing my /home to get some space for things.
When I end up doing an OS re-install on my laptop, I'll probably go with btrfs (+ disk encryption).
Well, I poked the guys at the Arch forums. For some reason I can't boot into my system after I convert my partition, edit my fstab and generate a new grub.cfg
I use lvm for everything but /boot and /, but I'm eagerly awaiting the day where btrfs is commonly used/stable enough so I can commit to keeping multiple terabytes of data on it.
I am trying to find a way to map different buttons/axis movement to different keys from my PS3 controller. Pretty simple, no need for usage of the joysticks, I just want it to work somehow.
I wanna play Cave Story + without leaning over my laptop :v:

I have a similar (?) problem but in reverse; a few of the games from HIB7 recognize my wireless mouse as a joystick, and they believe it is constantly pointing to the upper left corner of the screen... I have to remember to unplug it before starting any of them, a mild annoyance but strange nevertheless.
Right, any guesses on what the random counter on Ubuntu.com is about?
Considering it talks about touching, it's probably something touch-screen related.

If it's a nice UI for their Android tablet OS then I'll be happy.
Ubuntu powered realdolls
I'd say it is Ubuntu for Android, or Ubuntu for that nexus tablet.

That has existed for quite a while, even officially
I'm betting on some sort of upgrade to that, though. probably a more touch intuitive interface, and more optimization for ARM devices in general
Well I have made the move over to Ubuntu on my PC. Sadly unity is making everything seem squashed on my 1024x786 display.
Third attempt at converting my ext4 Arch install to btrfs. What I did wrong apparently: I didn't regenerate my initramfs and I didn't reinstall grub, I only edited the config.

Probably a hardware announcement that runs Ubuntu for Android.
I bet it's improved touch UI + rename to AmazonOS for 13.04
Wadafaq.
I've replaced the open source ATI drivers for the proprietary ones and now my window borders and window titles disappeared from my edited theme.
I have to live with default themes now.
Shoot me. (or tell me what the problem might be)
