Aha! Also, when i bought my desktop PC it had Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit installed. Should i install x64bit Ubuntu on it?
Is it a new computer? If so, it's most likely a 64bit processor, and then you can install 64bit operating systems on it. If not, then you may have some trouble. But just try booting the x64 Ubuntu LiveCD. If it works, you can install it.
It's a Medion Akoya something. It's not "new" but it's pretty good. [editline]ninja[/editline] So i just boot from my USB, and choose: "Try Ubuntu before installing" with a x64 system? And if it runs = install dat' shizzle?
It's a Medion Akoya something. It's not "new" but it's pretty good.
if your PC supports 64bit, then go for it. You can install a program called speccy, wich shows you the system informations. Post the information here, and we can tell you if your PC supports x64. also, if you want, you can dualboot ubuntu with Windows, so you still have windows as a fallback.

Speccy? Couldn't i just run a "trial before install" via UNetBootIn? Because i want it installed today, and the reply rate in here can be slow sometimes.
If its the proccessor then its: AMD Phenom™ II X4 925 Quad-Core Processor (2,8 GHz, 8 MB Total Cache)
More than enough. And yes, it's x64.
Why doesnt this scp work?:
joeri@joeri-VirtualBox:~$ scp client2 user@10.33.4.203:home\user\Desktop user@10.33.4.203's password: client2 100% 7649 7.5KB/s 00:00 joeri@joeri-VirtualBox:~$ scp client2 user@10.33.4.203:
It shows its copying but it doesnt. And the time of 00:00 seconds also doesnt seem right. Pinging it does work, so does ssh.
joeri@joeri-VirtualBox:~$ ping 10.33.4.203 PING 10.33.4.203 (10.33.4.203) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 10.33.4.203: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=4.01 ms 64 bytes from 10.33.4.203: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.786 ms ^C --- 10.33.4.203 ping statistics --- 2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1000ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.786/2.400/4.014/1.614 ms

maybe it's cause you don't have a slash before home, like "/home/user/Desktop". you can also try user@10.33.4.203:Desktop/ if it's the right user
Fuck I really need a alternative to vSphere on linux. Its literally the only thing I can't get on my work laptop. I know there is a web based thing they put out but it has barely any features that you need.
RVtools, is somewhat decent; but windows is the primary platform for VM clients.
You might want to look up MOTD 101 http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl5_motd.htm
You learn something new every day, thanks!
Hmmm anyone here ever use debian testing or unstable? I like debian and I want to switch to it from ubuntu but I want something semi up to date and not a year old like the base distro yet still semi stable.

I don't use Debian currently, but when I did use Debian sid, it was pretty alright. It wasn't as up to date as Fedora, but it wasn't woefully out of date either.
What would be the best distro for an old and crappy laptop? (Compaq Presario v2000 if it matters)
What would be the best distro for an old and crappy laptop? (Compaq Presario v2000 if it matters)
Lightweight systems. Arch. Crunchbang. Xubuntu. If i'm right and have learned anything here.
no slitaz? oh that's right, you learn from others, not experience
I just installed the Zukitwo theme for Gnome (3) Shell on Fedora 16, and it appears to have bugged my applications panel: [t]http://i.imgur.com/MNgqP.png[/t] The applications still launch fine if I type the name and hit enter, but the icons don't show up (and by extension aren't clickable). Any ideas?
no slitaz? oh that's right, you learn from others, not experience
I said:
If i learned anything HERE.
Wow, no need to be cruel, everyone started somewhere. And i started here.
Turns out you can't have your root partition as btrfs in Fedora 16 if you install from the CD live image. But you can with the DVD installation image. Sigh. Time to download yet another image.
I just accidently removed /etc/passwd on my VPS... by accidently playing in an extra slash and not noticing it, although I thought I restored it I killed the SSH daemon completely whoops
Ahh, you don't really need that =P
I was setting up a chroot jail at 4AM these things are dangerus man I was gonna remove the files from etc inside the jail but instead i toasted them inside the root directory
I was setting up a chroot jail at 4AM these things are dangerus man I was gonna remove the files from etc inside the jail but instead i toasted them inside the root directory
Energy drinks and shitloads of caffeine, that'll do it.
Energy drinks and shitloads of caffeine, that'll do it.
Not when your hands jitter so much you can't even type your root password. That means it's time for sleep.
no slitaz? oh that's right, you learn from others, not experience
Uhhh for one Slitaz is really obscure, and it's way overkill for any lightweight distro. It might make sense if you're still using a 486, but anything made in the last 10 years will be able to run something like Debian.
