It's hard to really get speed with that Unity crap. It's slower than Aero. Or it could be using wubi.exe to install it that made it much slower.

Well there IS also Xubuntu and Lubuntu.
I just don't like how Xubuntu's stock interface layout is trying to mimic OSX.
I seem to still be having the same issue as before on a new arch install, Steam doesn't seem to want to launch.
I installed tahoma through winetricks, and it launches to the login screen, after logging in, it shows the "connecting to account" dialog, and closes after a few seconds. Any other suggestions?

Is it normal to get quite a few of these lines in the terminal?
fixme:winhttp:WinHttpDetectAutoProxyConfigUrl discovery via DHCP not supported
Also getting a huge chunk of opengl related errors.
err:wgl:is_extension_supported No OpenGL extensions found, check if your OpenGL setup is correct!
Yes I already know this is probably a noobish question
Well, I found the problem with desura not working. It has to do with an old bug in chromium which I assume was fixed a long time ago, but since desura relies on the version with that bug, it's not possible to compile a newer version of libcef.so without desura giving errors. The only real solutions I can see is if someone finds a way to get a libcef.so without SIGILL/incompatibility issues or if desura updates to a more recent version of cef (which I'm guessing isn't all that easy to do since they say they can't really fix it).
I basically tried compiling libcef with the newest version of chromium (compiled fine, but segfaulted when desura logged in), the version that desura uses (that SIGILL error) and compiling regular desurium (SIGILL error).

It's normal, I get a lot of various "fixme" messages when running steam.

To fix the opengl problems you need to install one of these packages depending on what videocard/drivers you have.
intel-dri
nouveau-dri
ati-dri
nvidia-utils
You probably want the 32 bit versions as well.
lib32-intel-dri
lib32-nouveau-dri
ati-dri
lib32-nvidia-utils

Installed both 64 and 32 bit versions of the ATI drivers, but I'm still getting a ton of OpenGL errors.
And now instead of exiting after the login dialog, the client just crashes.
Here is the full terminal read out:

Are you using the open-source ATI drivers or catalyst? The mesa drivers for each are a little different; for catalyst the mesa drivers come in catalyst-utils or lib32-catalyst-utils. While the opensource one uses ati-dri and lib32-ati-dri.
Ensure you have mesa installed as well, it's required for 3d support regardless of video drivers.

You still haven't confirmed if you have installed the -dri package, but that's what solved it for me. Not sure what to do if that doesn't work.

While I'm probably wrong in doing this, but can you install mesa-demos and give us the output of glxinfo?
should be able to find something like this in it:
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS780
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.2
Okay, I've determined that both those OpenGL errors and the DHCP errors are normal. Steam is working fine for me on Arch Linux 32-bit with ati-dri/xf86-video-ati. I installed Steam through winetricks.
Have you tried setting a 32-bit wine prefix if you're using a 64-bit Arch install? I've read things about wine's 64-bit support being buggy at best.

I am on a 64-bit install and yes I have tried a 32 bit prefix, I created a new one to be sure I didn't just do something wrong, and I am still getting the exception rather than the dialog just closing. The terminal output is still the same as before.
I'm very glad my patience is high today.

Hrm, that's very odd. I wish I could help more but I don't have a 64-bit arch box handy right now :( Sorry.

Oh well, you put in the effort, and I greatly appreciate it. I just have to do some deeper searching to get this exception figured out.

I added you on steam, do you mind doing a teamviewer session? I've conquered this bug several times, but every time I just tinkered.
If you're on linux and you don't want to get steam working, you can chat with me on gmail (naelstrof@gmail.com).
I may have found a way to fix the exception I receive when logging in, there is 1 page I found on the Arch forums in which a user was having the same problem, only he was using the proprietary driver.
I am about to attempt to install the proprietary driver to see if that fixes anything, even though I wanted to avoid it at all costs. Wish me luck gentlemen.
I decided to install Arch to replace CentOS on my silly server hidden under tons of computer parts today and I ran into a fuckload of problems.
First, it started throwing errors around about how my disk can't be read, then GRUB takes fucking hours to load and now init.d doesn't exist.
I need some help here. At least SSH still works so I don't have to walk across the room to enter a damn command.
Wait a second, is it even supposed to exist? Because the last time I installed Arch I'm pretty sure it was there... I'm preparing for a shower of boxes, just in case :v:
It looks like you might have a hard driver / file system problem. Also, init.d doens't exist on Arch (it's rc.d).
Well it looks like I got it.
All I ended up having to do was install the proprietary driver.
So, I can still use desura by using chromium as a replacement for browsing the desura site (the installation, playing, etc are called using desura:// and all areas are relatively easy to locate). A problem is I have to bypass the EULA by manually starting the game because displaying the EULA is controlled by cef and it just blanks out the "I agree" button.
A bit hacky, but at least it works.

Have you tried Desurium? Arch's AUR should have a package for it.
Have you tried Desurium? Arch's AUR should have a package for it.
I've already tried it out and it fails when compiling cef with this error:

I'm wondering this too.
Why can't I add a new resolution to the guest ArchLinux?
[laca@Virtualisation ~]$ cvt 1024 768 60

And yes, I have installed the VirtualBox drivers, and added the modules (vboxguest etc) to be loaded.
EDIT:
I've installed the linux-ck and ran the new kernel, now it has all the resolutions I want, and GL apps work too!
So adding the Spotify repo through Ubuntu's software center and running through the instructions doesn't seem to work but manually adding it to sources.list does.
I'm not even gonna try and figure that out.

Also, any news yet on a Linux client for Google Drive besides the 'hang tight'?
