Uh, I think I have a little problem with youtube videos in fullscreen mode. They're laggy as hell, no matter what quality. In normal mode however they're fine.
I just KNOW all packages and install them all via the terminal.
apt-cache search
what. :iiam: I guess.
ls displays the stuff in a directory, if you have an alias for ls that doesn't work, it won't show the directory contents properly and thus makes the build environment insane. You can try using the html5 version: http://www.youtube.com/html5 There's also a program for linux called youtube-viewer that uses MPlayer to watch the videos (so there's no lag due to flash). It also has other capabilities such as managing subscriptions, searching, playlists, etc.
I'm really enjoying Archbang. I've always wanted to try Arch but never really got around to it due to either network complications or laziness - Archbang is nice because it gives you a nice foundation to work with after you've installed it.
Just had a kernel update mess up my initramfs. Apparently my sata hard drive is now being handled by the scsi module and I didn't have scsi support enabled. Odd, but it appears to have fixed the problem with my sata controller crashing every 5 min and restarting itself.
This is the most fun ive had fiddling with an OS since my CentOS VPS. Arch is the best.
Nearly everything I've compiled, I see this:
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
It makes me wonder how do you manage to get a non-sane build environment?
Non-sane means broken ls (probably an alias for ls or something).
Im wanting to setup a local web server and im having trouble picking what web server to go with. Im stuck between Lighttpd, Nigix and Cherokee. Perhaps there are other light web servers that I should consider using?
Tried installing Arch on a VM, all goes great except I have no internet connection. I give up...
elevator=bfq divider=20 15 FPS gain (from 30) in glxgears on a virtual machine [success kid]
Tried installing Arch on a VM, all goes great except I have no internet connection. I give up...
Have you tried the Arch wiki? Every problem ive had with Arch has being solved by simply looking up the problem on their wiki or looking over the instructions on the wiki again. I had a problem with my internet connection and it was solved by visiting their wiki.
Tried installing Arch on a VM, all goes great except I have no internet connection. I give up...

ifconfig eth0 up dhcpcd
If that doesn't work in a VM, I'm not sure what could be wrong. What VM are you using?
I've got it all sorted now, thank you for helping though. Now to get the rest of it set up. WOO HOO!
How do I get rid of the sidebar in Ubuntu? Gnome has it too D: Where does it come from? Is it a Unity thing? I'd love to have an interface that allows me to make my own little start menus where I can add things...
Is it even possible to do terminal copy+paste (highlight+mouse3) with links? It's got to be the worst design flaw ever (google doesn't help because it thinks I'm talking about copy+paste a link in a web browser).
*Idiocy snip*

I'm pretty sure that happened a couple years ago.
How old was the kernel you were updating from? I'm pretty sure that happened a couple years ago.
It was 3.3.4 -> 3.3.6, but I think it's a change in mkinitcpio and not related to the kernel update. I reverted to see if I could find out what happened and found the exact same modules are loaded in both versions, but 3.3.6 refuses to boot without the scsi hook.
Alright, so is there any rolling release distribution like Arch Linux or Sabayon, but with a DE version (such as XFCE or GNOME)? I've been looking for a while (perhaps in the wrong places) and couldn't really find anything. [editline]21st May 2012[/editline] Oh, and it's a MUST that most packages are top-notch almost bleeding edge.
Just sit down, learn Arch and install Xfce.
Just sit down, learn Arch and install Xfce.
I know Arch. it just doesn't install very well on my computer (it installs fine, but the legacy grub thing doesn't work at all. I've tried several times to configure it, and even syslinux works better for me. So a grub2 distro would be great!)
Going to try Fedora soon. XFCE spin of course.
You can always install GRUB2 during the Arch Linux installation, you know. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB2#During_Arch_Linux_installation
There we go, Fedora 16 with XFCE spin loading on UNETBOOTIN. Oh gawd can't wait. Oh, of course I will upgrade when a XFCE spin for 17 comes out. <3 [editline]oh anna.[/editline] [DEL]Wow, problems already. UNETBOOTIN can't recognize my USB? It does not show ANY drives. Help?[/DEL] [editline]kjhad[/editline] Oh wow, no FAT32. Just getting my other USB.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB2#During_Arch_Linux_installation
I never actually saw this. Amazing. I'll have to try this out! Doing a backup of my Ubuntu installation now (manually, it's taking a while to tar everything up) and I'll report back in a few hours.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but anyone want to help me out? After building a new computer, I'm having problems setting up dual-boot with Fedora / Windows. On my last computer I was able to setup Windows / Arch and Windows / Fedora, but here it seems to be working incorrectly (or I'm doing something wrong?) First I install Windows and leave around 50 gigs of unallocated space for Linux, then I install either Arch or Fedora into the unallocated space with GRUB. However, afterwards it can't find Windows or boot to it. My computer has UEFI if it matters?
already tried that. Grub2 gave me an error 15
That happened to me when I forgot to actually install the bootloader :v: Make sure you installed it to the MBR, too..
