Okay guys, I'm having serious issues. I'm booting LINUX mint 13 from a flash drive and running the full installer. It has been "partitioning my hard drive" for two hours now and I think it fucked itself. If I do a restart, will my hard drive be fucked as well? Also my internet connection on mint is just as slow and unreliable as it was in Ubuntu. Fuck. Seriously about to give up.
I realize this is late but you know that mint is based on Ubuntu right?
Okay so when i boot Ubuntu 12.04 with Cinnamon and AWN pops up there is ALWAYS a square with a plus in it. I can easily remove it by dragging a icon there, but it annoys me as fuck. How can I make it so it won't pop up like that? And are there soe tips for making Linux look good, like some desktop shit or anything actually? I just got a background and AWN.
Bump. Dammit' Facepunch, stop being so slow and shut down all the time!
Finally moved windows off my SSD drive, and got Linux on it; which required a re-install of both because windows doesn't like moving around. The improvements are impeccable. I also drew an image depicting my adventures.
@up: Pure Awesomeness. I think I'm gonna later buy myself a 256 GB SSD. It's really enough for me. Even right now I am using a 250 GB HDD It sounds pretty funny when you have a monster computer with a shitty HDD. :]
Judging from the picure, looks like the HDD on the right was really "shitty" with Windows on it :v:.
Yeah windows doesn't have any fancy organization like keeping all program data on the ssd and user data on the hdd. So I ended up having to install lots of programs manually to the hdd to keep wear and tear off the ssd. Which made it pointless to have windows on the ssd in the first place. [editline]adf[/editline]
@up: Pure Awesomeness. I think I'm gonna later buy myself a 256 GB SSD
Whoa that's a lot of space, I just got a 60gb one and all I keep on it are programs and the os.
Just put in a 60gb HDD, going to install Arch and some of dem HB games.
I might just throw an 128GB SSD in. That will be for sure enough.
Damn, if i can't fix this Ubuntu thing can anyone recommend another distro? Preferably not Arch or anything, I'm not in the mood for that. I just want something that works.
Damn, if i can't fix this Ubuntu thing can anyone recommend another distro? Preferably not Arch or anything, I'm not in the mood for that. I just want something that works.
Fedora or Suse
Yes, definitely Fedora. I liked it more than Ubuntu.
I dropped Fedora because of SELinux. You should take that into consideration.
I dropped Fedora because of SELinux. You should take that into consideration.
I'm pretty sure you can disable it, and it's not that annoying.
Yeah, you can disable it.
I had fedora a while ago, but I hate gnome 3 and it completely broke one day and I lost everything
I run KDE on Fedora and it runs great.
I'm pretty sure you can disable it, and it's not that annoying.
I find it more than just annoying, and while I realize I can disable it, I'm not much for a system where I have to take away stuff just to use it. Mind you, Fedora is a great system, and most of the packages are usually pretty up to date.
I had fedora a while ago, but I hate gnome 3 and it completely broke one day and I lost everything
Words cannot even describe this. Why haven't you installed a god damn XFCE/LXDE/KDE spin of Fedora? Gnome 3 is pure shit. You should really take a good look at the previous pages.

After a while of using, text turns into this. Arch with Cinnamon. Any ideas ?
@up That is surely one of the best reasons to use MATE.

You'll have to search around since it's been a long time since I had a problem like this.
looks like there's a problem with your cumputer
Why the hell my mind wants to read only what it wants to read?! Anyway, yeah, Xorg mite be da issue.
goddamnit, i tried installing ubuntu 10.04 and that couldnt find my wireless card/drivers for it, then i reinstalled ubuntu 12.04 and all is well again. i can't boot into windows now though, and the installation disk can't fix it.
Ahahahah Found out I can install linux on my wii, going to do that. I have a choice of Debian, Arch, or Gentoo. Thinking about debian, I already have Arch on my laptop and gentoo looks iffy.
is ArchBang any good?
Archbang is fucking great. Speaking of which, can anyone help me figure out how to remove an application from the menu that no longer exists? It sucks having an empty application entry in an otherwise clean menu.

Yeah, it's openbox. I solved the problem by removing the application in question (which sucked because it was some CrossOver crap and I had to fight to get the uninstaller to work), though I never learned how to just manually remove the application from the "Applications" list. I tried editing menu.xml but it seems to just get its application list from something because the actual launchers weren't listed in menu.xml itself.
