General Linux Chat and Small Questions v. Install Arch

If you haven't installed any fonts locally before, there shouldn't be a ~/.fonts folder. Just make it. As for the conky theme installation, that depends on the conky theme. The only ones I've ever used are just clever .conkyrc files or external scripts that you reference somehow in your .conkyrc file.
Does anyone know where the dropbox notification image is located with arch AUR package? It shows up absolutely massive on my netbook and I'd like to replace with a smaller version.

That sounds terrible, it is just default takbar size when i install it on any other distro.
Weird.
I have Arch installed again. Anybody else not notice how customized you have your stuff until your muscle memory is reaching for something that's not there?

Probably in /usr/share/pixmaps, /usr/share/icons/<icon theme name>, or somewhere around that area.
You can generate a list of files a package installed with pacman -Ql dropbox

When I first started using vim I tried to hit ctrl+s constantly. Now when I go back to Notepad++ on my win laptop I find myself typing :w(enter)I for the first few minutes...

I disabled window borders in mine, so I control windows by holding Super and pressing mouse keys. (Super+m1 = move, Super+m2 = resize, Super+m3 = close).
When I go to windows, I freak out for a few seconds because I can't move windows and the start menu keeps popping up...

Just wait, you'll end up doing it for things such as forum posts or watching videos.

You can still use the mouse in the terminal. Check out the [url=http://linux.die.net/man/8/gpm]gpm[/url] package.

Windows Explorer, why can't you be Nautilus?
I decided I'd install ubuntu on a separate partition after a while of me not liking it, and I gotta say it is okay.
I have spotify, my keyboard music controls actually work, and it runs smoothly and faster than Windows 7. I'm not installing over it, I'll just use this when I want to, pretty good OS.

Hi guys, question here.
I'm used to using Ubuntu 10.04 and the likes with the bars on top and bottom, but since 11.xx and newer came out there is only the "superbar" thing on the left-hand side and the whole experience is just too different now. This new setup is turning out to be extremely counter productive to me and I was wondering if I should try any other distros. I keep hearing good things about Arch for example.

You can install MATE, it's pretty much the old UI.
Installed Ubuntu on my laptop, and so far everything's better except battery life, which is much worse, and no nVidia Optimus. Still, I'm enjoying it more than Windows.
Gonna go test NTFS write support and try to find a nice IDE.

It IS the old UI. MATE is a simple fork of GNOME 2.x, so if you're used to that, you'll feel right at home.

IIRC battery life should've had some problems with recent version of Ubuntu, but here on Arch, using MATE, it seems to work just fine. And KDE too. Not sure what's wrong there.
Personally I'm using KDE since it seems to have all the features I want, integrated in the exact way I want it to. Try out CodeBlocks, if you want a C++ IDE, or Eclipse for the Java developer.
KDevelop is probably dependant on KDE libraries, so only use it if you really want to.
Would anyone happen to know how/where to get Last.fm for Arch? Is there a package floating around somewhere?
[editline]foo[/editline]
Also I forgot the command you use when you launch an application that lets you close the terminal without killing the application.

I prefer tmux over screen personally.

dvtm has been treating me nicely since I got it working. Any reason I might consider tmux instead?

aur repo is out of date, this will be fun :v:
[editline]22nd June 2012[/editline]
not fun so far :pwn:
./bootstrap complains I don't have automake1.5 or higher so I try every AUR package higher than version 1.5... nothing.
[editline]22nd June 2012[/editline]
I just removed a few checks for automake version and it works fine now... I really hate make scripts.
I finally managed to get GMod and TF2 up to a playable speed in Wine, though now they look like early PS2 games graphics-wise. Really can't wait for these to become native, they should run so much better...
God damnit, why does Arch not work with USB headsets and MP4 HTML5 video?

dvtm seems to be more like pseudo-window-management for a text environment..tmux is just, as its name implies, a terminal multiplexer like screen, except its updated more frequently and seems a bit easier to use (It has a nice little help function if you forget the keys - ctrl+b+?.)
