The way you said it made it appear as though you'd have two unrelated applications in one tabbed window, like one window holding both a file manager tab and a terminal tab.
Actually no that's possible too.
That would be completely useless.
Not really - VIM, Qt Designer and Firefox (for documentation) would help me quite a bit when programming shit with GUIs if they were all in one window.

The tabs are taking over the function of the window switcher. Have too many windows open and you'll confuse yourself in whether you left them in a tab or as a normal window. Two levels of window management (Workspace and the separate Windows) is enough for me. A third level (the tabs) would just confuse me.
Sounds like someone can't handle multitasking :v:
My problem with it is not related to multitasking. I have a few workspaces and I have my separate windows. Why would I put windows in windows? The path to opening a specific window will only be longer! Currently, with AwesomeWM, I have a maximum of two steps, and an average of one: 1. Go to the right workspace 2. (only on floating layout) Alt tab to the right window With the windows in windows (as tabs) you add a third step which is selecting the right tab!
Something has gone wrong on my VPS randomly my FTP on it is saying it can't find a directory yet no settings have changed at is exacty the same as before going to have to tinker tomorrow and hope I can get it working again else it looks like a os reinstall and a mass upload of files to a finle host while I switch over On a different note mint has been running well on my netbook I'm shocked that my parents could understand how to use it for "Important" things eg Facebook..... Fingers crossed they can't brick the os as fast as she did to windows

Ran into shit, guys. The latest updates seem to have broken the fonts in Steam. They're nonexistent, even if I installed all fonts using winetricks. I attempted to regenerate my Wine prefix, but to no avail. This is how it looks like: Any hints, guys? Tried googling but no results.
Have you attempted using the desktop emulation mode?

The Desktop Emulation mode didn't solve the problem, I'm gonna try PlayOnLinux. Edit: PlayOnLinux works. But, I'd much rather prefer to not have Steam depend on PlayOnLinux. Are there still any ways to make Steam's fonts work?
What did you update? [editline]1st August 2012[/editline] Actually, this might be relevant to your problem: Steam text invisible with dwrite.dll enabled

But it's good until we get official support.

I went into winecfg, added Steam.exe, and then changed dwrite.dll to use the Native version of it. Now, fonts aren't invisible. Also, I did pacman -Syu, so I updated most packages, including Wine. Thanks guys!
So I got an not so old but no so good laptop from my grandad. It has 32-bit windows 7 home on it but I want to try run linux (ubuntu?) on it and I wonder, will a dual boot work good or should I get rid of windows first? Thanks.
You can Dualboot, but you may beed to resize some partitions.
Apparently L4D2 is running better on Linux than it did Windows.
[...] We’ve been working with NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel to improve graphic driver performance on Linux. They have all been great to work with and have been very committed to having engineers on-site working with our engineers, carefully analyzing the data we see. We have had very rapid turnaround on any bugs we find and it has been invaluable to have people who understand the game, the renderer, the driver, and the hardware working alongside us when attacking these performance issues.
Looks like STEAM is going to be a huge boost to the Linux gaming world when it's released.
If they release a proper Intel GMA driver I'll be fucking happy.
You can Dualboot, but you may beed to resize some partitions.
I'll give it a try. There is nothing on the computer so if it goes to hell I can just reinstall everything.

Cleaning up an old XP install is like an archaeological dig in a distant, yet oddly reminiscent land.
XFCE as a default DE? Oh fuck no.
Xfce isn't that bad, but in general I don't understand DE's in the first place. A nice WM that doesn't get in the way when you don't want it to is all you need.

Do browsers get some sort of cheap thrill from starting a new process for every conceivable operation? Or is this just a web-kit related thing...

Rather than the whole browser crashing, just one tab or just a plugin can crash and be restarted without taking out everything else.

[editline]3rd August 2012[/editline] Does anyone here happen to have experience with resizing partitions after install? I installed linux in space I stole from my original XP partition. Everything is cool, but I want to move a big music collection into space that is easily accessed by windows and linux. I was thinking I could just use the same EASSEUS Partition Master utility in XP to trim the XP partition again, but I have a few questions. Is there any easy way to ensure that GRUB will still be in the same physical location and that it will still know where my XP and / partitions are? That is, can I simply split the XP partition into two, and so long as the overall space of the two new partitions is the same as the original GRUB will be in the same spot and will still be able to boot me into linux? I'm worried because I get a warning message from the partitioner about resizing the any partition in front of or containing GRUB... any help would be greatly appreciated. [editline]3rd August 2012[/editline] Also it occurs to me that I've already maxed out my Primary partitions, so the new partition would have to be added to the extended partition. Would this force me to change the physical location on disk? Maybe I'm down to just doing this and fixing GRUB issues on the backend.
