General Linux Chat and Small Questions v. Install Arch

Now that I've pretty much got all basic functionality I was wondering if anyone just in general had anything to recommend for openSUSE like apps or compatible games or such.
I'm just playing around with it because it's an old laptop but I'm not quite sure what I should tinker with next.
after my vacation that i'm gonna continue tomorrow i started tf2
and 20 fps more in linux (total of around 60-70)

Also, am I that lucky of running source games without crashes and freezes at a decent rate?
I just used Linux for the first time (Crunchbang in a VM, not ready to install it as a full OS yet) and it is amazing
Are there any good guides for Linux new users? I need something like a list of good applications, basic commands and stuff like that

You'll get used to it. Just use it often.

Some basic commands:

And some recommendations on applications:
Webbrowser: Chromium / Firefox
FTP Client: filezilla
Terminal emulator: terminator or rxvt-unicode
Music Player: mpd + ncmpcpp (may be a bit difficult to set up for a new user) or banshee
Video Player: banshee
If you need help, you can just post your question here.
I have more .APP's than I have folders in .config is all I mean to say; not enough applications follow the .config convention.
I never thought about that one, funnily enough. Makes way too much sense to have them all in a .config folder now that someone brought it up.
How do I setup DNS IPs in Arch linux installer cd?
Home router doesn't give out the DNS IPs (8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4) which would allow the pacstrap and other stuff use the internet.
By default, I use dhcp.
Not sure if there's a Raspberry Pi thread out there, so going to post here. I managed to buy a used one off someone and I should get it this week. Planning to make a car media center with one, and a home server with the second.
I ordered a case with the one I got from rsonline.com, but I don't have a case for this one.
Planning on using this case: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ad.johnson/Punnet_net_Mk1_600x600dpi.jpg
(After I remove the branding, ugh)
If anyone has a better idea, feel free to chip in.

write the following in your /etc/resolv.conf file:
nameserver 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

Oh, and then run dhcpcd to obtain your ip.

Consider also
FTP client: ftp
Terminal emulator: sakura

Video player: VLC
I've found dwb to be all the browser I could ever ask for and more ( thanks again to whomever recommended it to me :v: )
God dammit.
I try to launch GTA IV through WINE, I see the Rockstar logos, the GTA logo, and then when the menu should come up, it crashes. My heart started racing when I saw the Rockstar logos, but then it crashed and my heart skipped a beat.
Oh well.. anyone have any ideas on how I could run this? I just wanna try it on Linux just for shits and giggles.
Running one of the worst, unoptimized PC ports of all time in a non-native environment?
Yeah, good luck with that.

As I said - shits and giggles. But if I do get it to run, it would be a miracle.

You'd need MORE than a miracle to get it running.
It takes a half miracle to get it running on a beefy computer running windows 7.

You'd need enough miracles to end galactic hunger to get that shit to work
Well, I tried to get it running for 8 hours.
Installed the game 5 times, each time becoming worse than the last for some odd reason.
But this is not the end. I'll get this asshole running.
dude just give up
you're going to hurt yourself

Do you have masochistic tendencies??
I'm new to this Linux thing and I installed Ubuntu, and holy shit I need to get used to this...

Try arch :v:
Just installed Arch on my SSD.
Holy shit them boot times.
Also, Has anyone ever tried wmfs2?
So like I'm pretty noob when it comes to anything Linux so I got a raspberry pi to try and help me get into using Linux.
I just got my wireless dongle working on it for the first time after a good 4 hours of figuring out how to compile the driver and crap for it.

I might sound very stupid for what I'm about to ask, but I want to run some Linux apps on my Windows installation. I don't want to run a full-fledged virtual machine on my computer nor do I want to dual-boot, but yeah - I would really enjoy having some of my old Linux apps on Windows. Is there something similar to andLinux that's free, or some other way I can run Linux stuff on Windows easily?
In all honesty, I wish I could go all-out Linux but I want Steam and I need the Adobe suite and my music software.
EDIT: The problem I have with virtual machines is I feel kind of one-way or the other, never really in between. I'm either all Windows or all Linux partially because of the awkward integration. I've never tried virtualizing on Linux but from what I've read it's hard to utilize your computer enough to really accomplish any good gaming, video editing, or music production. Oh, and WINE was very, very hacky for me.
EDIT 2: Oh, and I have a 64-bit computer which rules out andLinux and coLinux.
Maybe cygwin?
Maybe cygwin?
Not at all. Cygwin is an *NIX compatibility interface.
Best would be to setup a Linux system in a VM, and ssh onto it.
(If you don't need to use X11)

At least Photoshop seems to have Gold rating in WineHQ which means nigh-perfect functioning. On recent computers, Steam games should also run just fine, not to even mention Steam is currently being developed for Linux (And L4D2 already runs on it! Not released yet, though, obviously.)
On the matter of music software, I take it you mean music producing software? Iunno how well those'd work.

Even if you need X11, actually. Run a Windows X server (XMing or something) and X forward from the VM. There won't be any network latency so it shouldn't be too bad.
