General Linux Chat and Small Questions v. Install Arch

The black screen after login in openjdk 7 is still there D:
and in OpenJDK 6 too.
Am ashamed to come again with another problem. This time, with my window manager theme which I can't seem to resolve by myself.
Look at this picture:

All seems well, right? Well, not really.. Look closely at the bottom right of the first window - you'll see the right edge sticking out to the bottom. And this is the problem - the bottom does not exist.
I'm having suspicions on the recent xorg update, but I don't think xorg is to blame. Yet. I'll blame xorg when I finish blaming xfwm4.
I've attempted editing some files from the theme, but with no luck. The theme is ACID, and I'm not switching because I freaking love 90 degree edges. Rounded edges seems so dull and boring.. Like they're just using up critical space..
I started setting up a usb stick to boot a bunch of ISOs. Right now I have systemrescuecd, arch and debian. What else should I put on there?

I think you should be safe there. My recovery USB only has arch on it and I've never had a problem with it.

Also, installing DeLicate Linux turned out to be a little more involved than I anticipated :pwn:
I burned the cd, threw it in and got "Loading stage2". Grub hung here for a few minutes before I decided it wouldn't be proceeding. It turns out the El Torito standard which the live cd depends on for stage 2 wasn't even conceived of in 92' when the BIOS for this thing was written. I already had grub installed on the hard drive from DSL, so I mounted the install cd, copied over the kernel and ramfs, added a new entry for it and rebooted. After fixing a few typos (:v:) I was into the ramfs. The install script didn't work until I remounted as read-write, but the only other stumbling block (discovering the CD) was taken care of auto-magically by the install scripts. Now I'm watching my CD-Rom light go solid for a few minutes, then my hard drive light, back and forth for going on 20 minutes now. I wonder how warm the CD will be after this...
Hey guys, having a little trouble with a new netbook I purchased.
It's a really nice netbook, with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD, which is just what I need. The processor isn't super fast (AMD C-60 dual core 1.33Ghz), but it does it's job well.
So here's the catch: I'm running Funtoo (Gentoo-based meta-distribution), and the netbook uses a Broadcom chip for the wireless networking. Everything else works "out of the box" (No fancy patches needed), but the wireless networking is something I'm not sure of.
The device is called B43228, and there's the output of lspci:

Have you installed wpa_supplicant (or the like)?
It was brought to my attention that i made a few mistakes on my desktop so ROUND 3! (This time with more colors)
Have you installed wpa_supplicant (or the like)?
I've tried that, yes.
But I have fixed it now, I'm not sure why I didn't do this first.
I downloaded the b43-fwcutter software and installed it manually, then downloaded the firmware (why I hadn't gotten hold of this, is beyond me)
Afterwards, I removed the propietary drivers, installed the open source ones in-kernel, and rebooted. Works perfect now.
I'll see if I can dig up the download links I used..
Installed Oracle java to see if minecraft runned better, and this is the output i get after getting a black screen (just after logging)

I'm no language expert, but it's saying it can't find the file?
So delete the .minecraft folder and redownload minecraft to see if it fixes it

Yes, it says that, but reinstalling minecraft didn't fix it

Yep. "No existe el archive o el directorio" = "The file or directory does not exist".
If he has LWJGL installed he could check his path (or just copy the file over).

I'm not sure where that path is...

If you're on 64-bit, try:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/java/jre/lib/i386"
Then run minecraft

32-bit lubuntu.. instead of i386, it should be i586 ?
it didn't work with none of them
No idea then, sorry
No idea then, sorry
No problem then, it will not hurt to search for myself.

Sorry for this load of post, but i half-got it. The launcher only downloads the bin folder to .minecraft jar, that's the problem. Tried redownloading the executable and didn't work. May be a launcher problem.

Try "i686"

Also I have an interesting problem.
urxvt won't show bold characters (replacing all of them with the blank box of doom). xterm shows them fine.
What.

That is weird. I use urxvt all the time and bold characters usually work for me.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop in dualboot with Windows 7, and then I installed MATE.
I think I just found the DE I wanted.

Try a different font. I'm 80% sure it's that.
Uhm, hi guys. I'm new here and I never installed Linux before. If I ask you people some very very stupid questions, am I going to get flamed at? Surely I will follow common sense and search around the internet, but for general recommendations or questions that are so stupid that I might not find the answers etc
Ask whatever you want buddy, this is the purpose of the thread
Try a different font. I'm 80% sure it's that.
I'm not so sure, since it looks like xterm and urxvt are using the same font. I could be blind though.

Just as long as you'll admit that you're an idiot and not go "oh my god guys that's not how its supposed to be done GOD" and ignore our replies :v:

Still, go ahead and try a different monospace font. Just do it, nothing can break. It's easily fixable anyway.

How would I set urxvt to use a different font? I could rip Lucida Console from one of my Windows installations and see how that does.
Still very weird that it would only do this to bolded characters though.

Look up some urxvt documentation. I have no experience with urxvt myself, but there should be a config file happily residing somewhere with which you can change the font path. Try that please.
also:
I decided I really wanted an easier way to fire knotify notifications. A little python scripting later aaaaaand...

Probably something to do with .Xresources or the like. I'll Google tomorrow, I need to sleep.
