I can boot in to linux via LiveCD in school but I can't seem to get an internet connection for some reason, I don't think it has to do with the drivers either because I can't even connect on my own laptop if I use their network
There's probably a proxy you have to use. Boot to windows, you'll find it somewhere.

Or wait, does it not connect at all?

Shows connection gained, but I literally can't do anything internet-related
I can access local servers though
I'm not really knowledgeable about networks, but have you considered using Tor? It's a little slow, yes, but it's enough to start Steam up and play some singleplayer games.
I don't plan on using it for video games, I just want to be able to use a browser :v:

Just finished a fully encrypted drive backup. Woo! I'm actually considering encrypting my main drive too. Mainly because the encryption method I'm using is okay if some sectors get corrupted (just like normal HDDs). :D
Hey guys. Just switched to Arch Linux, holy shit when did this get so good, but I've got a bit of a dilemma.
I'm looking for a nice, light file manager. I tried PCManFM, and it was ALMOST PERFECT, but not quite. The only problem I have with it is the fact that you can't zoom in to make the thumbnails bigger or smaller, and considering I just got a hold of about a gigabyte of images that definitely aren't furry porn, this is a bit of a dealbreaker. I'd use Nautilus, but I'm running Awesome and I'd rather not pull all those dependencies in.
Should I just take it like a man and install a beefier file manager? The whole reason I like arch now is the fact that you pull in exactly as many dependencies as you need to, no more and no less, which is something that I absolutely HATE about most other distros who see it fit to brand FUCKING EVERYTHING with their logo. I'm looking at you, OpenSUSE!
Anyways, light file manager, no KDE or GNOME dependencies. Go, go, go!
Thunar?
Someone hit me up with a Linux distro that's great for a beginner and has a Windows-like (or GNOME 2) feel. Mint Cinnamon is the first thing that comes to mind, but I ain't sure if it's any good since it's based on Ubuntu. I got a decent laptop so lightweight-ness shouldn't be too much of a concern. I plan on mainly using this OS to just browse the internet, make documents and shit, music, videos, and use GCC/GDB and Code::Blocks along with OpenGL libraries or any equivalent.
I plan on installing Linux on a 32 GB thumb drive since I don't have a laptop anymore and I'm usually within reach of a computer. However - I want to be able to virtualize off of my thumb drive as well. Does anyone know how I would go about installing a bootable version of Linux as well as having the ability to virtualize that copy?
Still looking for an answer. I've been roaming around the internet and it seems to be kind of dangerous. Corruption and what not.

Mint has and will always be good.
I've been looking at elementary myself. It's a beautiful system with a beautiful design philosophy.

Persistence and virtualization with LiLi do not go hand in hand, apparently.
What smexy distro is that?
looks like some random distro running KDE
Stupid question, google won't help. What's the shortcut (If any exist) for changing desktops in Lubuntu?
Also, I've been customizing my Lubuntu to look better, thoughts?

You turned it into GNOME2.
Aww man I've been playing around with Linux and I love it. Got Mint 13 Cinnamon 64-bit with the codecs and shit for my main laptop, and the latest copy of Lubuntu 64-bit for my 2006 laptop. By the way, Lubuntu makes my old laptop super fast. It's great.
You turned it into GNOME2.
I thought the point of LXDE kinda was to be GNOME2
That's how I've always used it, anyway

Look at the standard XFCE layout.
Yeah.

Gentoo + KDE
Don't expect it to be so godlike out of the box, I spent a couple hours changing things in KDE Settings to get things how I like them. What specifically is catching your eye here?
If he says the cube I vote to ban him from this thread.

I find the cube kinda rough, the only thing i like from Desktop Cube is the switching workplace animation, but that's it.
I just hate it because its so useless :v: Its just a fancy effect made for people with low attention spans that need something shiny happening anytime your computer does something.
If you ever get bored with your computer remember this.
Only you should replace XNU kernel with Linux, and OSx with your distro of choice (or FreeBSD, more accurately)
I think I might play around with this for a bit.

Isn't a thing like this already implemented in the late GNOME 2 or in MATE ?
