What about these? http://www.cooldrives.com/index.php/9-sata-ii-ultraflex-30awg-thin-sata-300mbps-data-7-pin-cable-with-latch.html It says 30 gauge. By shielding do you mean insulation? Or some other kind of shielding? Also found out that I can separate the individual cables on my IDE cable to make it more flexible.
By shielding I think he means the metal foil and wire surrounding the smaller wires in the wire. But I am sure I have found a decent layout for the components. Pics tomorrow.

For a high speed bus such as SATA, shielding is pretty much mandatory. Plus, it also saves you from static destroying your drive and SATA controller by tieing it to ground.
