By shielding I think he means the metal foil and wire surrounding the smaller wires in the wire.

Oh, so you mean to prevent cross-talk? I think the cable I linked has it. I'm not even sure if I need it yet, though. But I am sure I have found a decent layout for the components. Pics tomorrow.

Not just crosslinking, it isolates interference in general. For a high speed bus such as SATA, shielding is pretty much mandatory. Plus, it also saves you from static destroying your drive and SATA controller by tieing it to ground.
