Considering OS X and linux are very similar (and based on the same system), linux would in fact support the same ungodly amount. 64 bit also just generally supports more memory than 32 bit, so 32 bit Windows OS's support 3 GB and 64 bit is another story.
All 32-bit OS's support ~3.25 gigabytes. I think Gman003 said something about some module or something that let it be more, but I don't remember the specifics.

Make RAMDisks with it :smug: [editline]11th November 2010[/editline] My bad, it's 192GB http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx
You know what case I would actually like? A PowerMac G5 case, minus the Apple logo. Big case, plenty of airflow, actually pretty easy to work with, and the best part: it can stop bullets. I did the math one time - it should stop a .45, probably a 9mm too. Let's see your Alienware do that.
...why the fuck would you ever need a home computer case to stop bullets.
Make RAMDisks with it anyways
You are both content.
Considering OS X and linux are very similar (and based on the same system), linux would in fact support the same ungodly amount. 64 bit also just generally supports more memory than 32 bit, so 32 bit Windows OS's support 3 GB and 64 bit is another story.
It doesnt matter what OS you have. 32 bits maxes out at 4gb (hard cap due to the maximum ammount of calls the OS can keep track of if you also have a capable 64 bit CPU (which is almost any recent CPU)
That's completely untrue. OS X will use 64 terrabytes if you let it. Pretty sure Windows 7 also supports some ungodly amount. Probably Linux, too.
OSX will use way more then 64 terrabytes if its 64 bit. Windows 7 doesnt support an ungodly ammount, just 4GB for the 32 bit version. the 64 bit version can support somewhere above 128 gigs like every other 64 bit OS (or 16 exabyte as some previous poster said??) Costum computers like PLC's can support annywhere from 2 to 128 bits.
...why the fuck would you ever need a home computer case to stop bullets.
I live a very interesting lifestyle. [editline]11th November 2010[/editline]
All 32-bit OS's support ~3.25 gigabytes. I think Gman003 said something about some module or something that let it be more, but I don't remember the specifics.
A 32-bit OS supports 4 GB of addressable memory. This includes RAM, video memory, and tiny bits for other devices. However, there is a feature called PAE, or Physical Address Extensions, that somewhat circumvents that. What it does is let the addresses be per-process - while no process can exceed 4GB addressable memory, the system as a whole can reach 64GB. Unfortunately, Microsoft enforces a 4GB limit anyways on desktop versions of Windows, supposedly due to licensing restrictions. Mac OS X uses it, most versions of Linux have it by default, and both Linux and BSD support it as a kernel option. PAE is not supported by all processors, but since it's been around since the Pentium Pro and the Athlon, everybody can use it.
After weeks of bing absent from this thread, I bring you more content from my illiterate asshole father. I've been raising money recently to pay for a PC I am building (A $1400 gaming rig with a GTX580 and i7) and my father came up to me while I was counting my funds so far, and told me that I should just buy a Mac becuse they are better and much more powerful. I told him that the iMac we have is shit compared to what I am building, and he said I was spouting bullshit. I yelled at him, and he told me that even if it was more powerful, I'd just use it for games and screwing with other people's computers. I told him that yes, I was going to game on it and don't even know how to hack. He then told me that if I was going to be stupid like this he would just spend the money on a third mac, and told me that % am not allowed to have my own computer, and took $200 (not all of it, thankfully) and put it in the family safe. I am fucking FINISHED with all this shit my self centered asshole allways thinks he is right dad has been putting me through!

Not only is your father an asshole but also a thief
Honestly, I'd use some of that money to buy my own safe, and keep your money locked up tight in there. And keep saving until you don't have to worry about him taking it for you/buying a Mac with it. By then you should have enough for an amazing top of the line build, and upgrades to last it until... However long you want it.
Put your cash in a bank account

you disagreed with your dad over a computer so you yelled at him? sorry but you guys fucking blow at dealing with parents. protip: "that's a good idea dad, I'll look into it but I'm leaning towards windows because of price vs performance." it doesn't matter if he's right or wrong, yelling or even aggressively disagreeing with him won't end well, especially when you're a teenager and he has an armory of stereotypes on his side to make him feel empowered/right about his decisions. talking back never ends well. ever. part of having social skills is learning when to bite your tongue, especially if you're living with your parents and they're as dumb as you make them out to be.
Today I realized that to get around blocked websites at school I only had to change the url to https.
hey mandith do you have skype? i need to knock some sense into your dad
What is it with this thread and paternal issues?

This kid brought up computer's in homeroom, it went a bit like this: Me: "Do you build?" Tard: "Holy shit you build computers?" Me: "Yeah it's not hard at all. Anyway, what brand do you have then?" Tard: "Acer, they have better graphics and everything goes extremely fast." Me (pretty angry): "The fucking brand name doesn't have to do shit with the video card. What games do you play?" Tard: "Counter-strike acer makes it look amazing on my computer." Me: "You're a fucking retard."
I know this is unrelated but I don't know where to put this, but am I the only one who has nightmares about getting viruses and/or some horrible crippling rouge anti-virus that they can't get rid of? :ohdear:
