So, my main computer is broken (Windows related) and my Windows disc is at my friend's house for some reason. So now I'm using my secondary computer, which is so underpowered that the snow flakes use 98% of the CPU :v:
Oh wow, I just learn't that OSX Is based around the Mach Kernel and actually uses components from FreeBSD, I just find it funny how Apple release on about how they are unix based but never say any more than that, The only time they give credit to all the Open source projects is when they put it in the legals, They make it seem like they do all the work, The fact is no-one reads all the legal documents and believe Apple is a god of OS's, I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing it's just funny, It would explain a lot of the un-informed mac fanboyism, All I will say is this, Kudos to you Apple, You sly dogs.

Try using a netbook on facepunch right now, It's a bitch, Thank god for Javascript extensions though.
At the Internet diagram thing ( snow won't let me quote in mobile safari, odd). Your computer will obviously power up the hard drive of the other pc to get the files. God, what do teach you kids these days???
I went to computer today in our school. Wanted to go to internet, No internet cable plugged in (Halfway out).
Decided to go to RUN, Control userpasswords2 was written in (Limited user).
Goddamnit, I thought I am one of the smartest. Or maybe someone just found out funny pranks, but you need to have Admin user.
Also, How to get into Admin user in XP? I mean if it got a password. In safe mode ctrl+alt+ two times delete should automatically log in to Administrator user but it won't do it for me. I only got access to a limited user. And can't remember password. Any ways to do this without external software?
This actually shows people's illiteracy in this thread themselves, Me included, It seems people don't realize how powerful OS X is.
Also another thing, The new Mac App store doesn't allow apps to use third party requirements like flash, which makes sense, but what boggles me is that Java is fully integrated into OS X and is even updated via the built in software updater, But yet java applets are not allowed on the app store? Why is this Apple, I think Imma dive deeper into Apple and their developments, this is intriguing!

I find it funny that Microsoft Windows has gone from just a GUI for MS-DOS to a full blown OS, What it is no really seems that it deserves a name change, It's called windows because it was originally a Window system, Now it's added so many other features, Damn, I love my late night research sessions.
Ah fuck, Accidentally rated myself, Stupid tiny netbook screen :(:

So the following facts are true:
-Apple does no work, does not exploit power of freeBSD, turn it down in favor of exploiting the masses with status symbolism.
-microsoft written more code themselves in windows than apple on OSX.
Ooh. If this went into the news "status symbol" mac owners will flip.
Of course apple does do their own work, The complete OS X Aqua gui is completely made by apple, But down to the kernel level, Not much work has been down.

and that is probably precisely why apple doesn't want to open-source anything
No way to judge, it's closed source, thus nobody can really check all the work they've done.

Because all their software is open source based :v:
Well Apple do open source quite a bit of their work, Bonjour is an example.
But Apple... Never use any of their server software, What a fucking rip, I mean their remote desktop software is something like $300, It comes free with windows or if that doesn't work, Fucking VNC and SSH does wonders, Also from what I can gather XSan is just clustering software (Don't quote me on this), If it is then it's about $1000 for it, Fucking hell, Ubuntu offer clustering software for free.
Lesson, Never use Apple Server products because you can get software and possibly hardware with the same capabilities and even more for free rather than $1000.

You can kind of judge through comparison to a FreeBSD based OS. See how much of it operates exactly the same, etc. It isn't accurate in any way, but the more of it that works exactly the same, the higher the chances are it is the same.
Windows (NT Kernel anyway) was built essentially from nothing from what I see. It doesn't really hold any relations to another OS other than DOS/ MS-DOS. It's certainly changed enough over the years to show a lot of work is going into it (even if it is still a buggy piece of ass sometimes).
I must do research to back up these claims! Or just wait until someone hands me my ass.

MS-DOS was really a clone of CP/M, which IBM and Microsoft bought from some company, and after that, they built everything from the ground up. But I doubt not even one bit of that is in anything modern.
NT kernel was indeed built from scratch. The first versions might have some old Ms-DOS code inside, and probably the actual version too.
And Mac OS X is based on Darwin :eng101:

All this late night research wants to make me download FreeBSD and fuck around with it, I also wanna get my hands on Darwin, but Apple don't allow it for official download anymore, From what I can gather, at least I can't find it

I'm talking about the true Apple Darwin OS.
I'm talking about the true Apple Darwin OS.
There's no true Apple Darwin OS. Apple contributed to some code, but Darwin was based on NeXTSTEP
Hey, Would'ya believe it, Apple has the FreeBSD Founder working as their Director of Engineering of UNIX Technologies.

Oh then, That actually explains a lot to do with their kernel setup.
Aww....I was following the same snowflake as I was reading, then when I got to post #3904 it disappeared :smith:
