Yesterday while at school, I was talking to a guy and mentioned that I was building a computer, and he told me that he has built 6 computers. I let a small glimmer of hope in that someone in this damned town wasn't a complete dumbass about computers. I then asked him what parts he would recommend if I wanted to play Crysis on near-max settings. He then told me that "To play Crysis on even low settings you need a $5700 graphics chip created by Apple, that they only put in high end Mac Pros." *sigh* I politely told him that that was wrong, and that you could actually play Crysis on a cheap computer, although it wouldn't be able to run anything higher than minimum settings He then began to tell me that he was more experienced, and that he had even built a Router Stack. When I asked him what a router stack was, he told me that it was a stack of 20 routers wired together that could process anything in a nanosecond. I told him that was not possible, and that you need a processor, RAM, a motherboard and a lot of other parts to have a computer run. He replied with "No you don't, those things are no longer needed with the technology Apple has invented, they can even run two softwares on them" I asked him what a software was, and he told me "Mac OSX, Windows" I told him that they were supposed to be called an Operating System, and even after 5 minutes of arguing, I couldn't convince him. I then told him that running two "Softwares" wasn't even that special, and you can easily partition a hard drive and put a different OS on each one, such a dual booting Windows Seven and Linux. He told me that was utter bullshit, and "Why would you even buy Linux, its for hackers and costs $500." Why the hell does this always happen to me?...
I want to hug you.
All of you, chill out and stop throwing insults at each other. Can we at least pretend to be civilized?
I only threw one and all I did was ask for civilized conduct.
Fuckwit Mcginty in my class said recently: The only thing that can beat and Xbox would probably be an alienware running mac, then it would be super powerfull and not get viruses!" Luckily a guy across the room couldn't take it and talked about building a pc. The guy sort of tuned out after the words "Graphics card" unfortunately
Going to have to disagree with you. Lived in Virginia for 15 years, and I'm surrounded by incompetent fools. Rednecks, white trash, self-identified "niggas" (their term, not mine), and all kinds of southern stereotypes abound.
I can agree with this
I just discovered the one guy other than me that plays PC games in Oklahoma. I feel so good about myself now.
Idiot Teacher: How'd you do that? *points at my screen because I set the resolution to a different setting* Me: Changed the resolution so it isn't so big. IT(Oh the irony it goes to IT): Woah, how'd he do that? Teacher: He "changed the resolution." IT: He must've hacked it.
Please use this thread to post funny stories about computer illiterate people. Don't argue or you may be banned for flaming, trolling and/or posting off topic.
Mississippi being mostly black and extremely poor might have something to do with it, we've got mostly the stereotypical ghetto black thug type. (User was banned for this post ("This post is not about the thread topic" - verynicelady))
vnl you know that this was a terrible ban. just because it's not about the thread topic doesn't mean it's not about the topic at hand [editline]17th November 2010[/editline]
Please use this thread to post funny stories about computer illiterate people. Don't argue or you may be banned for flaming, trolling and/or posting off topic.
look at the title. content: out of stock it means we ran out during v6 (User was banned for this post ("Don't post about your ban in the thread, that's what the RC is for" - verynicelady))
If there's no longer any content I will close the thread. Please post to clarify why I should not do this in the next ten minutes.
Because content comes and goes, just like LMAO pics.
But this is Hardware and Software not Fast Threads. Sorry about the edits - I kept typing the wrong name for the forum. But this isn't Fast Threads, that's the important point.
What's the PC stand for in PCHS?
I'm not going to argue with a mod on the subject of moderation; in my experience that just leads to bans. Moderate how you will.
But this is PCHS not Fast Threads.
so? [editline]18th November 2010[/editline]
But this is Help and Support not Fast Threads.
this isn't help and support can't you read
Two minutes left.
May I suggest waiting until the thread reaches 1000 posts, then any mod can close it, whether or not it has content? [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Just like the Cars thread
Two minutes left.

Because content comes and goes, just like LMAO pics.

so? [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] this isn't help and support can't you read
Back again? But I do apologise, I knew it wasn't Help and Support but typed it anyway. Sorry for that. Oh dear
I have more accounts than I really need. this isn't V17 because I picked a random number also because content comes and goes just like lmao pics etc.
Why not just get really strict about people going off topic, so if there really is no content the thread will die on its own? (You know, how forums are supposed to work...)
Some guy in my Cisco networking class, when he found out about the Excel for Windows 95 had the Hall of Tortured souls, started announcing that it was 8-bit because it looked old. This is it for anyone who doesn't know what it is:
I have more accounts than I really need. this isn't V17 because I picked a random number also because content comes and goes just like lmao pics etc.
LMAO pics is a terrible thread but it's in Fast Threads so there's a much more relaxed attitude to off topic posting [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] Ok if you want a chance to show you'll post more or less on topic go ahead. No more reports for flaming and trolling and we'll all be happy. :)
Ok if you want a chance to show you'll post more or less on topic go ahead. No more reports for flaming and trolling and we'll all be happy. :)
Well, We're fucked

I quite like how this thread moonlights as a general technical discussion thread when there is no OC. I would post some stories but it boils down to console gamers hating on stuff like minecraft and dwarf fortress either due to graphics or because it looks boring (and I'm sure a great many people have had a similar experience).
It's just like the LMAO pics/Hot girls/Firearms thread, new content pop up with intervals, it's not a rapid stream of pictures and texts.
I agree with this man
Someone in my college class tried to convince me to get a macbook pro rather than a MSI GX 740, he was trying really hard as well, pulling everything out the book like the "Mac's don't get virus's" card and that it has better specs than the MSI and it'll run Photoshop faster (Part of the course includes Photoshop, but it's very basic). So i kindly told him that the MSI suits my needs more and I'll get more for my money he still carried on about it, so i just walked away talking to a friend that just passed.
Some sort-of content: This one guy in my Java programming class keeps going on about how Macs are better because you don't need to type as much to print a line in objective c or whatever language.
Binary is better because you only have to have 2 keys to write in binary.
