Audacity is the worst thing ever Meant to say isn't the worst
Audacity is the worst thing ever.
Eh, it's okay for basic things.
Someone buy localhost.com! We need this computer store.
Audacity is the worst thing ever.
There's worse. So long as you don't try and use it as a Garage Band replacement  It's not meant for much more than simple editing, and it's free. If you don't like it, you can develop for it and make it better. I used it a little bit before I got some of Sony's audio editing software. So in one of my computer classes we were getting into vector graphics with Adobe Illustrator. Basically when the was showing us the tools, she started showing how "you can swirl things around with this one." After about 2 minutes, people were raising their hands and asking the teacher why Illustrator crashed or why their computer was running so slowly. Her response was "these computers are brand new, they should be able to handle everything." If people wouldn't sit there and hold the mouse button until the CPU can't take it any more, the computers would run fine.
Someone buy localhost.com! We need this computer store.
I suspect it's a reserved name. Considering "localhost" is required to resolve to 127.0.0.1, and quite a few browsers will automatically append ".com" to names, letting "localhost.com." be a normal name might not be a wise idea.
I don't care, let's do it
Actually, now that I think about it, "localhost" sounds like a better name for a nerd-oriented bar. Which is another awesome business idea.
a friend of mine is opening a bar, he almost called it localhost. he ended up going with mickey finn's for some reason if you know what a mickey finn is you probably understand why I think this is weird
Actually, now that I think about it, "localhost" sounds like a better name for a nerd-oriented bar. Which is another awesome business idea.
So a cyber cafe that sells alcohol? Sounds like my kind of place.
Localhost Holdings owns the shops, bars etc
well he is posting from the same IP as you
well he is posting from the same IP as you
a bunch of people play this game in the US __ Facepalm
No it is not a reserved name from the looks of things, it is registered in Canada to a offline server.
Make it a cyber cafe with a pc repair at the back
No, it needs to feel more like an actual bar. Except with a really bitchin arcade, and free 802.11n. Don't want to deal with public terminals - totally takes away from the feel of the place. Get a band in every once in a while - the Minibosses might be good, or some guy doing Johnathan Coulton covers. Pipe in some old chiptunes or nerdcore when there isn't a band. And, of course, the alchohol. That's the main point - it's like this thread: you get a bunch of geeks together to drown their anger at stupid people.
not exactly computer illiteracy, but rather humorous and involves computers. I just ordered the Rosewill Smart One case off Newegg. After reading into the comments a little further, I noticed that a few months ago, an awful lot of people received the case with no side panel. great quality control, rosewill.
My Web Design teacher belived that .PNG was a vector image format. She clearly grouped .jpg, .bmp, and .gif into the "Raster" category, and .png into the "Vector" category, and explained it as if it were possible to endlessly enlarge them with no loss in quality. I'm guessing she thought this because Fireworks can embed various information, such as layers and vector data into the .png as metadata. However, I did point out to her that that's not normal .png, and introduced her to SVG.
I know he's often praised by nerds, but I really hate Johnathan Coulton's music.
I'm not personally a big fan either - I prefer a louder and heavier style for my rock - but he's relatively well-known among nerds, and it would work well as background noise.
for me it's either gotta be power metal, oldies, or electronica. odd combination but the best
My dream is to open a gaming lan center with side computer repair and a lounge area where you can just browse the internet and talk. I even search commercial real estate to look for locations. lol
Enough with music. Content. Okay, today, in Science, the Teacher's assistant was using a very old version of IE, and NO antivirus software. She said the school had a firewall that blocked viruses. I quickly explained how viruses can easily get in through exploits that happens mainly with older versions of IE, and then I told her about Chrome. She said she would tell her husband to switch to Chrome because I showed her how cool it is with Adblock plus. Then she installed MSE. Two down, 1,000 teachers to go.
He can do whatever he damn well pleases.
"lol really?"
What's even sadder than that? Usually you're told that those computers won't save any files and are cleaned about 100 times before you get the chance to use one nowadays.
Backgrounds on all computers throughout Campus where I go to school.
Actually, that seems pretty friendly.
Yup, and is functional. I have a hard time believing some people when they talk about their schools being so horrible. I am sitting in a library at the moment working on stuff and the computer I am on has deep freeze and I probably can't install tons of shit on it, BUT there aren't really many restrictions. Internet speed is about 100mb, the computer has a nvidia 310, and a core i5. There are hundreds of these computers around me too, along with more powerful ones. Also, with a host of macs if that is what you are into. I have never had problems with IT being horrible at any school I have been to. So it really makes me cringe when I hear half the shit people come up with in here and thinking about working in those environments (if they are true that is).
My school has decided it'd be fine to block websites they've never heard of. They've never heard of most the websites I need for some project I have due in a week, which has to be done at school because, "we aren't trusted, last year kids just copied shit from Wikipedia."

The professor I had was an extremely knowledgeable organic chemist; specializing in reactive intermediates of nitrenes and other things. He realizes that wikipedia can be edited by anyone and that means that although stupid people can edit it, people who know what they are talking about can edit it too. So usually the information is correct. However, I didn't cite wikipedia on a research report I was trying to get published, it was a lab report detailing certain characteristics of extracting compounds from organic sources. I wish schools would teach what is appropriate and what isn't appropriate instead of just telling you no.
I know right? Discussion of texts from my friend:
Me: You should get Minecraft, it's for PC. Him: No dude I play black ops and new Vegas ask for those for Xmas Me: I'm getting them for PC, console gaming sucks. Me: Start PC gaming, it's so much better. Me: PC also has the best games ever, Minecraft being an example. Him: NO!!!! Me: Why do you think Console Gaming is better? Him: My friends play it Me: More people with brains play PC, and most games are cheaper. Him: I don't care I'm playing chic Him:*xbox Me: Go to facepunch.com, mention consoles and they murder you, PC is by far the best, fully customizable, great... Me: people, great games, cheaper games, more games than consoles(not so true), and free games.

I know right? Discussion of texts from my friend:
I don't really like the console vs PC gaming. I was a hardcore PC gamer for a loooong time. I even took part in several leagues earning some money. However, I play my xbox now, because I like to have fun and chat with my friends. The games aren't that bad. I would love to still play games on my PC, but playing on a console isn't so bad.
I know right? Discussion of texts from my friend:
There is nothing wrong with playing console games. Sometimes I prefer to play GRiD or Halo: Reach with my friends in the same room. I can't do that on one PC. Consoles = Social Experiences PC = When I want to play games alone.
