Got my laptop confiscated in school by the IT Teacher because it was running Linux: 'hacker software'. Took about an hour for me to get it back after trying to explain what Linux was. I got a 'warning' for this...
Are you FUCKING SERIOUS?

The only place I've ever heard that is from illiterates posted in these threads.
Ah, thanks. But on second thought, you may be considered some godly computer genius and people may start coming to you with their problems. I don't know you so I don't know if that is good or bad. Personally, I hate fixing peoples' problems unless they are willing to learn and not require my help afterward.
do it for girls and get the pussy.
Got my laptop confiscated in school by the IT Teacher because it was running Linux: 'hacker software'.
How did they come to the conclusion that it is hacker software? and what distro?
Yes otherwise I wouldn't of posted it.
Wouldn't HAVE posted it. :eng101: It seems illiteracy is slowly dying in my school. Slowly. Also, your IT teacher... there aren't even words for it. "IT'S NOT WINDOWS IT FOR HAXORZ!"
Bullshit. Sue.
People already come to me for their pc problems, including teachers, if the sound isn't working everone just goes, oh he'll fix it hes amazing at computers. Most of the time the volume is muted :/ And aparently everyone thinks im going to be a hacker since i know .bat files....

wow this thread actually has its funny moments, not the stories of people who innocently say something that isn't correct because they're not aware, but those who mock someone and end up looking like the dumb one
what gives some it guy the right to take your laptop?

Okay, I got a friend to install Steam. Actually I was playing xbox and he was reading my bio. I had my Steam name in there and he asked what Steam was. I explained it to him and turns out he had a pretty decent computer, but it was a prebuilt. I then bought him Half-Life 2 and when this happened, Portal was free. He's actually boughten several games. Star Wars Battlefront 2, Bioshock, both Left 4 Dead games, and when GMod had the sale a couple weeks back for the Mac release he bought that. He also got those free mods Valve hosted on Steam liek insurgency and he downloaded Alien Swarm. I also gave him that ATI/Nvidia link for a free HL2:DM. He was going to preorder New Vegas on Steam as well, but his brother wanted it on xbox, but I don't mind, Fallout is singleplayer. He doesn't use Steam much except to talk to me, but that's because I have a VERY small hard drive and can't fit the majority of those games on. It is actually kind of nice since most friends of mine just say "WOW COMPUTER NERD XBOX IS SOOO MUCH BETTER HAVE YOU SEEN THE GRAPHICS" etc. So Facepunch, did I do good converting him? I'd give you his Steam page, but sadly, Facepunch has a great share of people who'd scare him down to the Wii. Once he get's situated with Steam I wanna teach him about custom building and maybe I'll buy myself Mincecraft, so I can get addicted and then have him addicted with me. Also have to teach him how to actually use GMod, for now he justs spawns the jeep and runs over players. Also should buy him CS:S since he'd love it and like every custom gamemode uses CS:S content.

A Christmas present, perhaps.
Two friends of mine replied "Does it work?" when seeing this: One of them just passed a university course in Networking.
You have done well. And yeah, CS:S would be a nice gift for him. A Christmas present, perhaps.
I planned on Christmas because it'd be good for the season, and hopefully on sale. Oh and all of the games he bought were on sale I should mention. He even bought me kotor. It was 2.50 but yeah I'm definitely buying a game for him.
Late.
I wasn't posting the image as a joke. Two of them actually took this seriously.
I could easily help teachers with their many woes but its funnier to watch them struggle. For example during algebra we were assigned to make a PowerPoint explaining a certain math problem. There was a list of useful programs for screen capture or calculator emulators and what not. The teacher scrolled down and saw a link for Wine, the Windows program emulator. She quickly noticed her "mistake" and said something to cover up the fact that were was an alcohol reference on the school website. Meanwhile people were complaining that they couldn't do it because they have a Mac. Oh the irony.
2nd day on my new job, start wrking on servers find out the WDS server has no answer or unattend file, start making them, still process is slow. 1 7200RPM drive for 10~15 machines and 1 gigabit nic, "Why is it slow?" UBFIBEWIFBEWUIBFEWKJBFEWUIBFUBEWIFBEWBB GIVE ME A RAID 0+1 controller, some spare 7200 RPM drives, and a second NIC, I can cut it in 1/2
You good sir have made me feel illiterate.
yeah most a quick jot down of my day
OK, I bring content. I was taking the test-out exam for Programming I and II. One question just bugged me: "Given an array of 1000 elements, a bubble sort will require at most ___ iterations." Seriously, why the fuck do I need to memorize that? Here's the only thing you need to know about bubble sort: DON'T USE IT. It's the second-worst sorting algorithm ever devised: only bogosort is worse, and at least bogosort has the curious property of possibly being O(n) on quantum computers. Bubble sort is just bad.

Today in my cooking class, while we were waiting for some pumpkin pie, the teacher tried to play a movie on Netflix while we were waiting. Shit didn't work, so he calls on this kid who is only slightly tech literate to fix it. Twenty minutes pass, until I go over and say "look, you're getting nowhere fast. let me take this." He says "no teacher told me to do it :downs:" and I went back to my seat saying "mmkay, have fun taking all day to fix this." Twenty minutes later, he gets it working. I say "what was the problem?" The wireless wasn't working. because he hadn't tried it yet hnng [editline]24th November 2010[/editline]
The appropriate response was "No, you're wrong, please give me back my laptop
and if they didn't, take it up to the front office.
