Well there's one thing PC users and Mac users can agree on. iPad is a piece of shit that serves no better purpose than a cheaper iPhone, while being smaller and portable.
Some people cannot read text off of a 2 inch screen. :colbert:
Well there's one thing PC users and Mac users can agree on. iPad is a piece of shit that serves no better purpose than a cheaper iPhone, while being smaller and portable.
wait what
i had an ipad for a few months, sold my netbook for it (I would never spend $500 on a big ipod touch) the only reason i sold the netbook was because the CPU was too weak to play youtube videos. its neat but not for everyone and i had a brain aneurism when i heard someone say they use an ipad as their only home desktop PC [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] but i later sold my ipad to a family member for $500 :pcgaming: full refund :pcgaming:
I'd love an iPad, but I'm not paying out the ass for it. I tried it in our college bookstore and rather enjoyed it.
Say what you want about the iPad, but you have to admit; the UI is smooth as fuck. Still wouldn't buy one for the life of me.
Our college is buying about a dozen of them for the library. Only god knows what they'll be used for. About the whole iDevice discussion, I was able to read the last ten pages of this thread and type this message on my iPod touch. And on the topic of first games, my earliest pc memories would have to be a game about a robot on a submarine with math based games. Anybody else remember it? My first noneducation game would have to rock raiders, and my first real 'adult' game would have to be the Garry's mod and counter strike bundle, but not after playing most of the games from the Lego media/studio games collection (Lego creator, racers, racers 2, creator, park and a few more).
I am infact typing this post on a iPad right now, it is not too bad there has not really been a killer app for it yet. I think it still may be coming though, there is going to be world of goo soon.
The iPad is nifty, though not $500 nifty. Anyone else have content?
Getting my new computer this week. Let's see how badly I manage to fuck it up while trying to put it together, shall we?
Don't forget to plug it into the wall. That's always a classic.
Make sure to make sure you have some static on you.
One guy at my school said his Mac was better because it has a 16 core processor... I'm scared.
One guy at my school said his Mac was better because it has a 16 core processor... I'm scared.
I think he was trolling.
He was probably confused. IIRC, you can get Mac Pros with dual 8-core processors now.
Wait, who the fuck gets a server grade CPU setup for a fucking laptop?
Mac Pros are a big tall desktop computer you are thinking of macbook pros
Wait, who the fuck gets a server grade CPU setup for a fucking laptop?
Mac Pro, not Macbook. The big, nigh-bulletproof desktops. Fully pimped-out, they have 2 hexa-core Xeons @ 2.92gHz, 6 gigs of RAM, and a Radeon 5870 (more than that is pointless from Apple's view, since Crossfire doesn't work in OS X).
Don't forget to plug it into the wall. That's always a classic.
I actually said that to someone in my PC repair class who was having trouble with their computer. My teacher said "We're all competent enough to not make a mistake like that" and I said "Just saying, you can never be too sure."
ahem. Octa- is the prefix.
I know, I was thinking about hexadecimal for some stupid reason.

Might be more. I know there's a two-ish year old one sitting under the recording console at the studio with 16gb in it. Since they aren't meant for gaming, I don't think Apple sees the need to crossfire/SLI GPU's since I don't think there are many(any?) professional applications they are designed to be used with require a powerful GPU, they need processing power, which the 'Pro has in oodles. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
Oops my bad, but who need that much processing power anyways?
People who want to Render/Compile/Process huge amounts of things?
:sigh: Using an HTTPS tunnel to post this. I am now greeted by this message when I try to visit any website. [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/scrn.png[/img_thumb] I called the network admin, and he AND I QUOTE said this:
Well, if you wouldn't have been hacking I wouldn't have had to do this. *Click*
IT head won't answer, probably because she's not there this late. Oh, and apparently the network admin is a super-senior (5 years in college) and thinks he's God, according to my RA and other people on campus. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] Ironically, the HTTPS tunnel is faster than the internet that I usually get. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] Apparently he's bullshitting me, I just connected to the other proxy server and I don't get that message.
I did the same a few days ago - but I wouldn't call it useless. It would be good just as a cheap secondary computer. Maybe a porn-browsing machine or something - low power, long endurance web browsing. If the price gets to $200 or so, I might get one, and I wouldn't toss it out if someone gave me one for free.
Porn browsing really? Good luck, when you set it down to watch it, it will be pointing towards the ceiling.

oh god mandrith your dad must've given every section of his brain except for his fanboy one to you and your mom [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] and he is an incredible retard
He was probably confused. IIRC, you can get Mac Pros with dual 8-core processors now.
It's two 8-cores.
[img_thumb]http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7792/macoslol.png[/img_thumb]
12 cores is pointless, because most programs Macs can run probably only use one. I'm not even sure 12 core support is even around yet, let alone what programs would possibly need 12 cores.
[img_thumb]http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7792/macoslol.png[/img_thumb] It's two 8-cores.
Not counting hyperthreading, which cranks it up to 24 logical cores :eng101: Imagine the kind of animations you can render with that much power :fappery: [editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
12 cores is pointless, because most programs Macs can run probably only use one. I'm not even sure 12 core support is even around yet, let alone what programs would possibly need 12 cores.
That's so incredibly fucking dumb I don't even know where to start. Okay, maybe I do: Lightwave, Pro Tools, Logic HD, Aperture, Maya, need I go on? I know for a fact Lightwave supports at least 24 cores, because I have seen it done on that exact same machine. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
12 cores is pointless, because most programs Macs can run probably only use one. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] Pretty sure Lightwave and other 3D renderers for both OS's support some absurd amount of cores for multithreading aka render farms. As in far greater than 24. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] No, really, this idea that Macs can't multithread is really REALLY retarded. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] Like Mandrith's dad retarded. [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] Oh right, I should add: You're content :colbert:
