Nah, man. Remember this is for a netbook, I personally think mint would be a bit too bloated for that. Debian or Lubuntu would be fine imo.
Considering its running MATE, which is a fork of gnome2, it shouldn't really be that slow.
You could install any distro, and install lxde ontop of it.

Although that is true, whenever I went ahead and installed something like Ubuntu, then tried to remove unity, I would somehow manage to fuck up the entire system by merely removing one of the big unity packages, this has happened to me many times, a bunch of packages would be dependent on unity and it would all fuck up. Same would likely apply here, it's a bit of a hassle to remove the DE/WM that came with the distro in my experience. And also, although MATE may be considerably quick, LXDE is likely quicker and has the same functionality, give or take some things.

Thats because its unity.
if you execute the command "sudo apt-get purge unity*" it removes so many packages that your system won't be usable, because it removes packages that aren't even related to unity.
AFAIK it even removes the networkmanager package.
Blame canonical and their unity circlejerk.
I have yet to see this problem with any other DE/WM.

I generally did "sudo apt-get remove unity", but yeah fair enough. :v:
I generally did "apt-get remove unity", but yeah fair enough. :v:
apt-get remove just removes the binaries, and leaves the config files intact. purge removes them aswell.
also there isn't much difference, because 'apt-get remove unity' removes any unity-* package, along with its dependencies(including system important packages).
CIPWTTKT&GC v0X1E (v30): We GNU/Linux thread now
Just because you did a page with it doesn't mean it's a Linux thread
Damn I just wasted a whole day trying to get an old Windows 2000 Installation to work.
Welp, I'm back at work today.
My dad needed a ride so I decided to come into work to fill out some paperwork and clean up my desk, only to find that I have a interview today when leaving. (They were supposed to call me to schedule)
So I'm sticking around today until 3pm :( I had so many things I wanted to work on now that my creative ideas are flowing I'm motivated to go shoot and edit more stuff for the chansss.

Yup, I do know how APT works. :v:
apt-get sudo
sudo rm -rf /
I thought apt-get remove was the same as purge
So let's say I have to name something for work. The utility has an export function and I get to duplicate the export function and add some PDF-specific stuff.
What the hell would I name the new function? Functionality is the same as regular export except it does some extra stuff for PDFs.

export
export_pdf_extra
export
export_pdf_extra
Well the name of the function is exposed in the front end (i.e. there's a name property.) I'm more concerned with what to title it that isn't confusing to the end users.

Shit, my bad. Couldn't you do something like this?

I think you can do this with winforms if I'm not mistaken. Imagine that's your export button, click that arrow you get more options specific to pdf's or some shit like that.
Or name the extra button "PDF Extras" "PDF Utilities" "PDF Export utils"

And this is going to be cooled by what, glacial runoff? Liquid nitrogen?

whoops my shitty low res icon covers it. that's probably for the best though
And this is going to be cooled by what, glacial runoff? Liquid nitrogen?
You can just cool it in the tower you'll need for the nuclear reactor you'll need to get enough power to make it run

Man, for some reason I don't think it's real.

I just scared the everloving shit out of myself this morning
I was pissing around writing FreeDOS floppies last night, and in my tiredness I didn't realise that I accidentally wrote it to my SSD, nuking the partition table. All worked fine until this morning when I woke it from its slumber and it wouldn't boot, just dropped to booting to Linux which didn't work because it couldn't mount the EFI partition on the SSD. So I set the BIOS to enable booting from legacy devices, and was greeted with a blank screen with "FreeDOS ..." in the top left. Shit. Turns out after firing up gparted over network to see what was going on, that write of freedos had completely nuked the whole partition table, and the drive appeared 100% clean. Needless to say, a trip to the toilet was in order.
After that trip, I fired up my trusty Hiren's Boot CD to see if testdisk could resurrect anything from it (at this stage, I'm practically assuming the worst case scenario). But thank cthulhu, it found the deleted partitions and re-wrote the table to disk. 10 minutes later, and a trip into Windows PE to reset the BCD, I'm up and running again.
I want to make love to whoever wrote testdisk
I am also in possession of a Hiren's Boot CD, those things are magical
It's saved my ass a million times, and it's damaged to the point where I can't get an image to burn to a new CD, even though it works perfectly when I use it, and I can't find the exact version that is on the internet and all the others i've burned have never worked as well.
I'm convinced the thing is cursed or something.

I have Hirens Boot CD too.
web dev too slow
Any recommendations for web servers for linux? (PHP, not ruby or all that fancy stuff). Apache is easy, but I heard nginx is better, but is it more effort?

I prefer nginx over apache.
I've dumped cinnamon for i3wm and my laptop battery life has shot up, now to replace chrome with something less battery raping but still actually usable...
