but the macbook pro runs mac os x, is lighter, and has thunderbolt

I'm willing to bet someone's managed to Hackintosh most Thinkpads
Does weight really matter?
And are there any thunderbolt peripherals out there anyway?

Get a t420.
But macs aren't as bad in media either so what the hell
no. everyone shut the hell up. thinkpads are good for some things, macs for others. cueball's decision on a mac is justified for what he needs and will be using it for, and the thinkpad can't really compete against the mac in that case.
And prettier.
Ehhhh, they're practical though I don't find them the nicest looking laptops out there.
Yeah, your choice of laptop depends on what you need to do with it really

I'm on a busy campus, sooner I would need an upgrade

Black is sexy, I've always thought of the Apple gear as too clinical and sterile looking.

wise words
also, since i have a working desktop and i don't move away for 6 more months, can anyone suggest a thinkpad with at least enough spec to run google chrome and watch hd video on for <£50
no charger is okay since my lenovo n200 left one behind when it passed away.

see, i find the thinkpad design really attractive, and feel guilty for it. but i also can't fault the clean cut and minimal look of the apple laptops

See if you can get used a T61 or something, could probably find one for cheap somewhere
however, let it be told, i will never ever buy a cheap "consumer" laptop series, purely because the business laptops, although they're slightly pricier, they are built to be more upgradeable, more manageable, usually have a more solid build and have features like a matte screen you just can't get with a consumer-grade laptop. they also usually have better warranties.

Also, I find that look kinda boring, since so many laptops try to look like the MBP.

HP are pathetic, that palmrest will pick up fingerprints and grime like a motherfucker, and WHY is the beats logo even there?
Didn't Apple literally seal their systems?
Didn't Apple literally seal their systems?
the retina ones aren't "sealed" but you can't replace any components like ram, hdd.
i think it's to cut down on bottlenecks, and from what i've seen it's pretty fucking effective.
however, i would be going for an older one, base model + high res screen
the moment it arrives i'd remove optical drive, put the 500gb hdd into the cd bay and put in a 240gb samsung 840, or whatever SSD is around in a few months.
[editline]13th April 2013[/editline]
since it's to last me 4 years, the upgradeability of the system is important to me

it looks good in Curry's so all the idiots pay out the ass for it.
I love how Apple have all of their products in one minimalistic, utilitarian design language where any other OEM is just a massive clusterfuck of whatever they think looks good at that particular moment.
They don't stuff stickers all over the palm rest listing specs which you already know, they don't advertise gimmicks as features and then stick a badge for said gimmick on the bezel either.

I hope the MacBook will last you as long as you need, I'm scared that if something breaks I can't do shit about it

me too :v
but with macbooks being in such abundance, and so common, the parts are easily available cheap which is good.

it didn't try hard enough to be a macbook
I wish Dell didn't get rid of the styling they used on my E4300. It's sleek, though easy to take apart and feels really solid. The keyboard is comparable to my uncle's Thinkpad. The pattern on the lid is pretty nice too... Thinkpads aren't bad looking, I just don't find them exciting. That said, I'll still buy them because of how cheap they are on eBay.

All this for the low low price of an additional $600
Stickers are like bloatware
A poweruser just DBANs and spends the time it takes to reinstall win7 removing the stickers
found a dell latitude d630 for sale but no HD, should only be about £10 for an HD I can sell it for more when when I'm done with it.
