My Desktop & Laptop still have Firewire, I just lack any peripherals that use it.
[editline]23rd March 2013[/editline]
Actually, I don't think I've ever used Firewire before, I've not seen anything in person that's used it before.
We have a MiniDV camera that uses Firewire for connecting to computers.
[editline]24th March 2013[/editline]
As far as I'm aware, the primary applications for the port are connecting video equipment to computers and linking PS2s together.

so who thinks the bitcoin ASICs are a scam?? me
Avalon is real and people have already received stuff from them, but bfl have yet to prove themselves

If I remember right all cable boxes in the US are required to have a firewire port (and some people have figured out how to stream video to a computer over it on certain models)
Firewire harddrives also exist
I've seen USB3 expresscards with a DC input jack on the front, do you seriously need to provide more power like that?
Yes, the bus power of USB3 has been increased from USB2.
If you look at most USB3 pcie1x cards they will have a Molex/floppy connector.
I heard there are three brands of panel for the standard 1366x768 screens for T420. Samsung being is the best, then LG, than some shitty brand called AUO that's in most T420s which is the worst. The pixel density is acceptable for a 14 inch laptop, but the contrast and colour saturation is meh. I'm planning to upgrade the LCD panel to the 1600x900 one and hopefully that screen will be a lot better.
My Clevo has a 1920x1080 AUO panel and for a TN panel it looks pretty nice.

yeah I knew avalon was sending some out. pretty slowly, but slow progress > no progress
[editline]23rd March 2013[/editline]
also crysis 3 is pretty good. I can't run it maxed out, but it runs smoother than butter on medium and still looks amazing

Maybe they're doing it slowly on purpose to prevent the difficulty multiplying overnight? After all, the longer the difficulty stays low, the higher the predicted mining amounts will be and the longer they'll get more orders from people who want to get their share of efficient mining.

could be. They are a business after all. Me, I probably won't bother mining, I'll just invest (and probably should have when they were still $30 >:C)
although once the difficulty spikes up, the only people who can mine with any serious returns are people who own ASICs so they have business for awhile yet
I think getting a mechanical keyboard made me better at bit.trip runner. Still can't beat level 6 though
Think I'm gun pick myself up one of these laptops
Ew, GTX 675M.
Rebranded GTX 580M.
If you're getting something with a high-end gpu got for something with the GTX 6xxMX.
Save yourself a few pounds and get this

Might get this and grab another GPU then.
yeah it's real fancy
I would get one if I were in the market, but my HD 6650m laptop is still trucking along

Same, my GTX 460m is doing it's job well. I'll probably keep it until the end of next year if nothing amazing comes out before then (and if I have a job by then).

At my upgrade rate I'm probably gonna get a newer GPU somewhere close to the end of this decade. Hell, my 460 can still run most games I play at full settings with maximum AA and all and still get high enough VPS to maintain 30 or 60 when vsynced.
I just need to adjust the font colour now!

also my 7950 just came in

I've been replace my desktop gpu every generation :v:
But I think that's about to change since this time I don't have a job to keep doing that. I usually use my laptops until they die.

What are you working on with that

Yup, my 6770m still somehow not on fire.
I'm coming down with a cold, and my spring break just started.
Well fuck you too, life.
My new car stereo has good Pandora integration, though I can't use it in Canada. I wish there was some way of tricking the Pandora feature to work with Last.FM.

I always wondered how that worked in a car. Do you need a hotspot or what does it use?
I always wondered how that worked in a car. Do you need a hotspot or what does it use?
It uses your smartphone. With my Sony head unit, you can use the Pandora app over Bluetooth with an Android or BlackBerry phone, though with an iPhone you connect it using USB.

Ah. Cause I've seen em with Pandora "built in"
I'm probably just going to pick up a deck that will work with two amps, a 4-channel amp for my 4" and 6x9's and one for my subwoofer(s)
God I'm gonna be dumping my paychecks into this thing. Oh well, most of it I can take out and move to the next truck when I apply for a loan in a few years :v:
Firewire is cool.
Between 400mbit networking and voltage tolerances up to 36v it's pretty fucking rugged. Streaming video from a camera or cable box is the least that it can do. I still prefer it over USB 2.0
Sucks that it's so uncommon, the only times I've seen it used was on an old DV camera, and my friend's recording interface
Internal buffer? It can write to the buffer before writing to disk, but it can't read from the disk until it's in the buffer.

The only thing Canon has going for it for first party is a red ring on the lens. If you care about looking like a professional go Canon.
if you're more concerned about bang for buck and working on actually taking good photos it doesn't matter. If you're hired for weddings and events, you actually do need to pay for that red ring on L lenses.
Is this an american thing? No red rings on any of the canon lenses i looked at yesterday. Also what about image stabilization aaaaa
