Firewire is cool.
Between 400mbit networking and voltage tolerances up to 36v it's pretty fucking rugged. Streaming video from a camera or cable box is the least that it can do. I still prefer it over USB 2.0
36V?
Firewire should've been the popular, cool-kid standard.

The only thing Canon has going for it for first party is a red ring on the lens. If you care about looking like a professional go Canon.
if you're more concerned about bang for buck and working on actually taking good photos it doesn't matter. If you're hired for weddings and events, you actually do need to pay for that red ring on L lenses.

Is this an american thing? No red rings on any of the canon lenses i looked at yesterday. Also what about image stabilization aaaaa
The red ring is for Canon L lenses. Which symbolizes the level of quality in the lens.
Edit: Glass makes a difference, but doesn't make a good photo.
Well Im good without red rings thanks.
It's surprisingly important if you're shooting for consumer clients. If you're selling prints then it makes little matter.
I know people who didn't get hired because their lenses weren't L.

Sounds like a college education in the US
"You need a degree to get a job"
"But a degree is worthless, experience is important."
"You need 5 years experience."
"We won't hire you without a degree"
Repeat.
We're only hiring people with at least 10 years of Ruby on Rails experience.
"Required: 5 years experience with PS4 architecture"
"Required: Piece of paper and being $40k+ in debt"

I'm a little bitter about the post secondary schooling system in the US in case you hadn't noticed

I wonder how well a "piece of paper" obtained in an university here (Argentina) would stand up if I wanted to get hired by an US gamedev/softwaredev/sysadmin/fucking anything computer-related company. I really want to move to the US, but studying there is life-cripplingly expensive.
I'm pretty sure there are a few good colleges in Buenos Aires, but I don't know if a title from there and my ~latin american charm~ can get me a decent job in the US.
Same, my GTX 460m is doing it's job well. I'll probably keep it until the end of next year if nothing amazing comes out before then (and if I have a job by then).
On the subject of laptop graphics cards, my GTS 250m is unable to handle Garry's Mod anymore ever since those updates.
I'm using it for batch video rendering now.
What are you working on with that
Nothing really, it's WebIOPi, something that allows me to control my RaspberryPi's GPIO pins from a web browser rather than having to write a python script or use IDLE. Makes things easier for small testing.
I got bored of the plain white background so decided to put your photo up instead as it was the first thing that came into my head. It's blue now.

It has to be seen how the Mobile Haswell iGPU performs. Intel said that it will match the performance of a 650m, which is faster than a 460m, and if that is the case then it will put NVidia under a lot of pressure to have a good card at the mid range price point, which is very good news for everyone.
[editline]24th March 2013[/editline]
Given that if it does casual gaming at 1080p will be possible (leages, wow, TF2), so only people with a real need for a dedicated laptop GPU will have to buy NV.
Samsung Magician is being a fucking pussy not letting me update my 840 SSD.
What the fuck Samsung
Where did the DOS-bootable USB update feature go
SAMSUNG YOU FUCKS WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE SUPPORT FOR AMD? MY SYSTEM IS FUCKING AMD.

Even if that guy would have used truecrypt, he'd probably do something as stupid as mount on boot, and then you can get the password from a ramdump
I'm back yo.
That was a weird ban. This was the first time I got a ban for a bottle o' rum actually.
Also Spring Break is almost over for me. Fucking awesome Estonian Spring actually. aka -13C outside and a few days ago it still snowed.
And I am sad that my NX7000 doesn't support WOL. My sister took it yesterday so she and her bf could play some web games or whatever together (He forgot his laptop) and I VNC-d into it. She wasn't using it but unmute, speakers to the max and youtube! They caught on though and turned it off.
I really wish I could have rebooted it up at 5am and start playing some weird songs.
i haven't listened to daft punk is so fucking long, with the new album coming out i decided to get back into it
holy fuck they are good

I have to do a paper about my favorite artist/band.. Hard choice between: Daft Punk, Justice or Queen.
Dammit. Sipwicket rapes my wallet harder than steam. I couldn't pass on that Lenovo! Now, anyone want an *ahem* Alienware m11x for cheap? (Core 2 duo model). I'm sorry for my previous sin.

I'd go for Queen, I bet there's a lot of interesting stuff to write about them

I spent a scary amount of time in Reddit while I was banned. I mean, TFTS was half the reason why I went to sleep at 5am.

And that was my mothers idea too. Apperantly we have some kind of a book about Queen at home, so that'd make it a ton easier and better too!
This is ridiculous, my laptop has a nice SSD which I cannot update it's firmware.
The Help pages aren't helpful at all, where on Earth is the Make Bootable USB in Samsung Magician? There isn't anything.

maaaaaan.
It's good, but it's waaaaaaay too repetitive.
Great for remixes though.

What are Lenovo like when it comes to pre installed oem stuff?
What are Lenovo like when it comes to pre installed oem stuff?
Lots of it.
-snip-
I'm confused. With that lenovo Y500 laptop, does the ultrabay come with the graphics card inside? Or does the laptop have a discreet card already on the board, and the ultrabay can then be used to add a second? The website really doesn't seem to show me much
One card is discrete and the other is in the ultrabay.
