Remove that dumb handle and then i'll call it pretty
It's tempting to get one of these, would make work much easier.

Anyone got a ~2560 x 1440 monitor? Or any res higher than 1080p. I'd like to know peoples opinions.
I just recently got a 27" 2560x1440 monitor. Overlord Tempest. Its the lowest cost monitor at that spec, I got the over lockable one. Its running at 100hz with no issues. I paid $460 for it when I preordered it.
While it doesn't beat my Trinitron for gaming it is amazing for video, real estate, coding etc. For non-fps it is also great. For MOBA, RTS, etc its excellent. I plan to get a different stand for it eventually.
Edit: Low cost as in actual price, they use the same A- Samsung panels as everyone who isn't Apple.
...That is centered, though?
Do you mean the fact that the addition of the numpad offsets the main keyboard part?
Yes, the numpad.
It feels wrong on a laptop to have the keyboard off the dead center of the screen.
touchpads in general make me twitch
Apple touchpads are the only ones I can actually use..
Holy shit Makol, that's a lot of posts. I wonder who has the most on the site now.
I've got around 40,000 if you count my previous accounts. There was someone with 50,000 but he got banned shortly after the forums were purged in '09. Rusty has a buttload as well
i only recently broke 10k
noooo, youtube patched the way to get old youtube back
why did they only do this with the one layout change i didn't like :(
The new layout has really grown on me.
Now my video box is uncentered :(

Hell no
Trackpoints are best

Textured trackpads are a mortal sin.
actual mice are best pointer devices bar none
though if i was stuck with something built into the laptop i would kind of need a clitmouse
Textured trackpads are a mortal sin.
Trackpads built into the laptop's main shell are also a mortal sin.
What the hell, Crytek? I'm running dual Xeons and a 6870, and I *still* can't max out Crysis?
Once I dropped the motion blur down to High, it seems to be mostly fine (with MB on Very High, I would get 60fps as long as I stayed perfectly still - once I moved, it dropped to maybe 2). Still stutters a bit sometimes - I suspect I need to drop the physics down as well.

6870.
I found your problem.
I doubt it, my 6870 maxes crysis just fine
it's probably the dual xeons, a lot of games don't like dual socket computers
I dunno man, I can run Crysis with everything max except for AA on my dual xeon and a GTX 260 and get like 20 FPS.

It's the newest card that works reliably under OS X, and I dual-boot that machine a lot.
Besides, I can run on the same settings on my 660M (which is basically a desktop 640). A low-tier current-gen card should perform worse than a mid-high-tier last-gen card, right? Especially since the laptop is running at 1920x1080, while my desktop is still using a 1600x900.
it sounds like something else is going on software-wise honestly

The GTX 660M is just barely behind/almost equal to a desktop GTX 560 which is better than the GT 640.

32-bit, maybe? I made a mistake while installing, and didn't see any point when I only had 5GB of RAM (four 1GB DIMMs and two 512MB).
Hmm, maybe it's the memory? I'm pretty sure FB RAM is higher-latency than unbuffered, and DDR2-666 is pretty slow by modern standards.
ram sounds like a pretty good possibility
I think the governments of the world need to define "maxing" a game. I define maxing, every setting highest possible at atleast 1080p with 4xMSAA 16xAF at 60fps.
My system has trouble doing that on Crysis, so 6870 can't.

Are you asking for some sort of "ISO Standard Crysis Settings"?

everything at full at native resolution with at least 30 fps is maxing
maxed at 1920x1080

That'd be pretty neat for prebuilts and such actually
just a little sticker badge that says "Runs Crysis!"
I think there's too much emphasis on framerate and not enough on frametimes, in that the frametime is an instantly and precisely quantifiable measurement for the performance of a system at each individual step along the benchmark and allows you to collect more data. Then you can also show the mean, median, and standard deviation of the frametimes, to see if a game runs consistently well or has a lot of variation.

It's not exactly hard to get frametime from framerate.
It's not exactly hard to get frametime from framerate.
Except "frametime" as a benchmark usually refers to taking the 99th percentile of frame times, while framerate generally refers only to the mean framerate.

Yes it's just an inverse, but I rarely see graphs of benchmarking runs, letalone raw data or statistical analysis.

I agree with having full graphs and raw data. Fraps is really good at that, it has a benchmark feature built in which can print your FPS every now and then (I think it's every second or half a second. Not sure on the specifics) to a CSV file which lets you do shit like this.
