Went dumpster diving a while ago, although I've just gotten in some time with my haul. Hauled out two (and a half) machines: Saved a dinky old bad-capped small form factor P4-era Dell Optiplex GX270 from the dump, sans memory and HD - it seems it only failed recently, though, because the BIOS' event log has entires all the way up to '11. Got it recapped, installed some RAM (found on another P4-era mobo with its processor and heatsink still installed - w/o integrated graphics, though, so it's just lying around while I try to find an AGP card and all the other accoutrements), bodged in a notebook HD in with electrician's tape. It's a thing of beauty inside; I'll post pics later, since I don't have enough RAM to edit pics and browse the web simultaneously. Look at that delicious modular design. And then look at that equally-delicious-but-in-equal-parts-idiotic proprietary HD mount. Haven't figured out just what to do with it yet, though, so here's it running the successor to WinFLP. It gets freaked out about OOM pretty often, though. (It also has the distinction of being able to boot both from USB devices and floppies, which makes it a pretty interesting machine to experiment on.) I might get it running some form of Longhorn milestone. I also managed to save a near-intact C2D-era Pavilion p61721 tower w/ 4-friggin-GB RAM from being trashed as well - it'd just had its HD removed as well. God knows why someone would junk a machine like that. But that's less interesting, and it'll probably be going somewhere where it'll be more useful to someone else - it's still a perfectly viable machine.
Oh god, a GX270. Have some mercy, just kill it now.
I actually had a GX270's PSU blow up in my face a few months back. Wasn't fun.
lol some worker just ordered me to dry a PC wich got "wet" with an industrial drier. [t]http://www.invento.ch/files/fohn.jpg[/t] That thing was about 350c degrees hot. Said to him, I'll deny any responsibility when shit breaks/melts. I did it, and the PC got burned to a crisp. I just burned 3000$ worth of hardware in a matter of seconds. and I don't even care.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/8lBaY.jpg[/t] Quick, someone give a logical reason for all these devices.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/8lBaY.jpg[/t] Quick, someone give a logical reason for all these devices.
Hardware testing, or religious backups to the point where you could claim it's going more extreme than suicide bombers.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/8lBaY.jpg[/t] Quick, someone give a logical reason for all these devices.
Because I/we/they can.

A ford pickup doesnt need that many devices.
The three GPSs are obviously to triangulate the truck's location
Haha, I just figured out the perfect way to measure when a show gets big enough, as long as it's recent enough. I'm watching through Leverage, went through the first 3 seasons. In S04E02, they use Bing Maps to point out the location of an island and in the episodes after that, every single laptop has a massive Windows logo sticker on the back of it.
The three GPSs are obviously to triangulate the truck's location
He has a mount for a fourth though!
I'd like to see that, sounds pretty ridiculous.
I just got to episode 4, it's getting worse. They used to do briefings on a wall of TVs with a clicker. Now? Wow that looks terrible
I wonder who came up with that rotation thing. If it was Microsoft's requirement, they can eat a dick because: 1) Windows can't do it (without faking it) 2) Linux can (with Wayland)
