My monitor arrived, went from 1440x900 to 1920x1200 hnnng.
Why 16:10 though?
Why 16:10 though?
why not? 16:10 > 16:9 anytime man.
Why 16:10 though?
Because 16:10 is better, more screen space. I honestly don't understand the trend for 16:9 in computer monitors, they just make your resolution smaller. If they made an a 24" LCD 16:9 and instead of using 1920x1080 they used 2133x1200, that would make 16:9 advantageous, but since they don't you are always down-scaling by going with 16:9. 2560x1600 and 1920x1200 are better choices than 2560x1440, 1920x1080.
Why 16:10 though?
It's better. I like having vertical space when browsing. And i'm not some crazy person who watches films on their pc all the time, I have a tv for that.
Why 16:10 though?
16:10 is awesome. 1) Most 16:10 resolutions are just 16:9 resolutions with extra vertical height, so you can watch a movie with no weird scaling, no clipping, and only minor black bars. 2) 16:10 works well for a lot of IDEs - the extra vertical height gives you room for more text, but 4:3 often doesn't give enough space for sidebars and stuff. 3) Splitscreen apps on 16:10 work like two 4:5 monitors, which works really well for simple editors, browsers, etc. 4) 16:10 is the closest resolution to the golden ratio.
Only advantage for 16:9 is that there's much more choice and usually cheaper. Supply and demand.
Damn there is so much room for activites on this screen.
Dammit, now you guys have me looking for new monitors. I do not think I can afford this but I want it
I like the idea of a 2560 x 1600 screen but my frame rates would be decimated. Plus 30" is huge.
-sometimes I should consider sudoku-
This was my basic idea, at least here in Norway if I compare the cheapest 16:9 and 16:10 there is a ~$200 difference for 180 more pixels.
345,600 more pixels.
1024x768 master race.

So I pre-ordered the latest Portal gun prop in October, and it was set to go out in "November 2012".
1024x768 master race.
1366 x 768 motherfuckers I found it quite interesting that my 32" Bravia has that same res :v:
What do you need that for this time of the year? When will you receive it? Also don't listen to those hating bitches, you are going to make a fabulous Chell next halloween. I'm fairly content with my 20" 1680 x 1050 monitor.
1366 x 768 motherfuckers I found it quite interesting that my 32" Bravia has that same res :v:
1366x768 is pretty much the standard if not THE standard for HDTVs that aren't 1920x1080
1366x768 is pretty much the standard if not THE standard for HDTVs that aren't 1920x1080
I would have thought 1280x720, since that's 720p, but apparently my TV is 768p as well.
I like the idea of a 2560 x 1600 screen but my frame rates would be decimated. Plus 30" is huge.
It's easier to push a resolution like that than you might think
that's... nice in other news I was looking through old games and found out I got 2 weeks of FREE NAPSTER aw yesss
thug2 ~thug lyfe~

So that big year-long quarter-milliion-lines-of-code project I've been working on? We're doing our first customer install right now. We're going live tomorrow morning. I AM NERVOUS AS FUCK. WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR TESTING AND BUGFIXING. HELL, WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME FOR 100% FEATURE COMPLETE. I'm probably going to do some data entry for Project Horizon just to take my mind off it. Can't leave the computer in case they need me to do something.
I would have thought 1280x720, since that's 720p, but apparently my TV is 768p as well.
AFAIK it's so TVs connected to PCs can display applications that expect a screen resolution at least 1024x768.
It's easier to push a resolution like that than you might think
As long as you keep up to date on your graphics cards, but if you expect to max out every game with a consistant 60+ FPS you'll need to run current high end SLI or a dual GPU card for sure. It never gets any easier to run 2560x1600 since the games get more demanding right with the GPU advancements. This coming from someone who has been using 2560x1600 for six years now.

What the fuck was I thinking this is the wrong thread.
