What happens when the school servers go down? What happens when teachers can't enter grades?
Honestly, I doubt it'd make that much of a difference. I'd put my trust in Google services more than I would in a school's systems in terms of reliability :v:
Every grade currently is already entered online in a system called Magister, it's fucking terrible and runs on Silverlight. It's not even hosted on school owned servers too

Except you can still edit and move your documents around if their stuff goes down. Teachers will just be delayed. So fucking what. If your schools servers go down to go back to a flash drive, something you can't do with GDocs
GDocs and Google drive are both cached on your chromebook, and you can edit them offline
Pitty you can't transfer your files to anything else since Google Docs documents are limited to Gdocs and that's it.
You both seem to ignore the fact that in Australia, outside of Urban area's internet isn't all that common and what you can get isn't reliable. Most people I know live on farms and the best they can get is Dial up and EDGE phone connections.
Chromebooks support silverlight though, so it'd work since all you need is a browser
chromebooks aren't even sold in russia so whatever
Oh yeah, there's also that. The regional issue.

Ewww.
I got a 60mbit line upgrade from Virgin the other day. We're getting above the advertised speed, which is great - If you're plugged into the "#~xxSup3r HUB from VIRGIN MEDIA~"
the thing has about as much wireless range as a £5 RC car, I'm lucky to get 3mbit/s in my bedroom, I literally cannot do anything it takes 30 seconds to refresh Facebook

Well, i'd have to agree that it wouldn't work everywhere (Your school isn't using macbooks right now, is it?)
please help i dont want to be stuck in 1997 anymore
Well, i'd have to agree that it wouldn't work everywhere (Your school isn't using macbooks right now, is it?)
My school is full of technophobes who don't allow laptops, so no.
It's something possible here since the macbooks are mostly funded by the government, i just think the money would be better spend on chromebooks
and I think it would be better spent on normal netbooks
which are capable of you know
running programs and stuff
It's something possible here since the macbooks are mostly funded by the government, i just think the money would be better spend on chromebooks
They're still not worth it man
Also is the E2-1800 APU really that horrible?

Have a copy of the story i just told wingar:
14:00 - Digital.Goz3rr: There were two IT guys
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: both of which were hired as windows sysadmins
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: all they did was reimage old dell's
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: and fix the account server
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: like every windows account was on the network
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: then one day they had to work with apple's
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: I tell you
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: Both of them are really retarded
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: I came in there with my sisters macbook
14:01 - Digital.Goz3rr: tell them what's wrong
14:02 - Digital.Goz3rr: They tell me i have no idea what i'm talking about
14:02 - Wingar: hehehe
14:02 - Digital.Goz3rr: also the fact that i actually got to open macbooks
14:02 - Digital.Goz3rr: they weren't allowed
14:02 - Digital.Goz3rr: every tuesday some apple tech support came by
14:03 - Digital.Goz3rr: I think the pro's of a chromebook really outdo the cons
14:03 - Wingar: Lower performance than everything else
Same reliabiltiy as everything else
locked into googles system?
14:03 - Wingar: Yeah, great advantages.
14:04 - Digital.Goz3rr: who needs performance for webbrowsing and looking at word files
14:04 - Wingar: You're right. You don't need it since you can't actually run real programs.
14:04 - Digital.Goz3rr: ~webapps~
14:04 - Wingar: javascript isn't exactly fast.
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: It's still easier to learn than objective c :V
14:05 - Wingar: lol true.
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: For the last years i was at school
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: Here's how most laptops were used
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: the teachers used them on smartboards
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: which are just beamers with a touchscreen
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: they entered grades on the system
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: and because books are outdated
14:05 - Digital.Goz3rr: what they did
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: was use the black and white photocopier
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: because digital color ink costs money
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: and look at images of the actual books
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: on macbooks
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: IMAGES
14:06 - Wingar: ...
14:06 - Wingar: your school sucks.
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: the guy in charge is a macfag
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: then
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: during lunch
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: people either play minecraft
14:06 - Digital.Goz3rr: of gta san andreas
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: or*
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: because, you know
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: ~mac~
14:07 - Wingar: yes
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: then you had the problem
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: where they actually have different types of macs
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: you have the pre 2008 ones
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: core2duo and intel hd4000
14:07 - Digital.Goz3rr: and you have the unibody > 2008 ones
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: core2duo and nvidya 9600M
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: okay
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: I think
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: That's easy
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: 2 images
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: turns out
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: THEY HAVE
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: 9
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: FUCKING
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: IMAGES
14:08 - Wingar: what the fuck for
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: ~apple~
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: and now they stopped selling unibody macbooks
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: so they're either going to buy macbooks air's
14:08 - Digital.Goz3rr: or ipads
14:09 - Wingar: ...
14:09 - Wingar: DOT
14:09 - Wingar: DOT
14:09 - Wingar: FUCKING
14:09 - Wingar: DOT
14:09 - Digital.Goz3rr: even if you don't like chromebooks
14:09 - Digital.Goz3rr: a nexus 10 would be better than an ipad
14:09 - Wingar: YES I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU LIKE THEM NOW.
14:09 - Wingar: just... jesus
ipads would be fine for education imo
ipads would be fine for education imo
no just no
Rugged laptops or semi-rugged like my x131e (which is alrightish) suit better.
Have some more fabulous tales:
14:13 - Digital.Goz3rr: You know basecamp right?
14:13 - Wingar: nope
14:13 - Digital.Goz3rr: http://basecamp.com/
14:13 - Digital.Goz3rr: School uses it for IT
14:13 - Digital.Goz3rr: they have like 20 different systems
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: grades are system
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: timetables
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: every teacher uses their own website they like
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: Anyways
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: They never removed me from basecmap
14:14 - Wingar: uhoh
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: I still get copies of all meeting etc
14:14 - Digital.Goz3rr: I actually made an android app
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: That scraped the timetable website
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: Since there isn't an api
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: http://publish.gepro-osi.nl/roosters/rooster.php?klassen%5B%5D=2B1A&type=Klasrooster&wijzigingen=1&school=1288
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: That website doesnt even work in chrome
14:15 - Wingar: ...am I supposedto be able to access that
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: yeah
14:15 - Wingar: oh ok good
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: anyways
14:15 - Digital.Goz3rr: i made it scrape it
14:16 - Digital.Goz3rr: i got a fucking cease and desist
14:16 - Wingar: lol what
14:16 - Digital.Goz3rr: ~i dont know~
14:16 - Digital.Goz3rr: they blacklisted the ip of my old vpn
14:16 - Wingar: loooooool
14:16 - Digital.Goz3rr: magister and the timetable are both run by schoolmaster inc
14:16 - Digital.Goz3rr: they're total douches
14:16 - Digital.Goz3rr: I sent them a mail
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: asking if there was an api i could use instead of scraping because they didnt like it
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: They told me i should discuss it with the guy that is in charge of the schoolmaster system at my school
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: He told me to go back to schoolmaster
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: Turns out
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: a few months later
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: They released their own app for ios and android
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: which was free
14:17 - Digital.Goz3rr: but
14:18 - Digital.Goz3rr: every thing you wanted to unlock
14:18 - Digital.Goz3rr: grades
14:18 - Digital.Goz3rr: timetables
14:18 - Digital.Goz3rr: agenda
14:18 - Digital.Goz3rr: costed money
14:18 - Wingar: wow.
14:18 - Digital.Goz3rr: ~and there's your reason for the cease and desist~
14:18 - Wingar: just wow.

Too big?
Explain:

They wouldn't be that stupid to use Windows either.
I've already managed to use half of the space of my 2TB HDD.
My download folder takes over 500GB alone, that's a little over my old HDD's capacity.
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
Thankfully I've Smart Defrag installed. If it weren't for this the HDD would be mess.

like seriously isn't the entire idea of giving kids electronics to teach them to use electronics that statement you just made is so silly I can't even
ipads would be fine for education imo
They are too expensive though.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttt
Why did I never discover Amazon Prime until now.
Instant video is pretty much the greatest thing I've ever used.

Tried to take out the heatsink on my friends PC.
It came with the CPU. Then hairdriered it out. Fell onto the ground, bent a few pins.
straightened them out. Gonna install it on his new mobo.
