Oh... actually it turns out that for some reason I have my user agent set for IA64 Linux Internet Explorer. Oops.
Interesting that I only get this now.
that is weird
we haven't even rolled out amd64 builds of IE yet, how the hell did you get it on IA64
Has anyone here noticed how dependent you've become to your browser setup?
I don't think I could live without the quick search thing in Chrome, where you type a site like Youtube, hit tab and then you can do a search on Youtube.
Of course it works with auto-complete, so I can just type y for Youtube searches, or en. for English Wikipedia.

Actually, IE 8 is the most up to date browser on any Itanium OS. Microsoft released official versions for Unix.
search keywords are amazing
why go to the Google Images website and wait for that to load before typing "thunderbird logo" when you can just enter "img thunderbird logo" in the address bar
Today is a good day:
Adafruit Raspberry Pi stuff comes in the mail today (breadboard, GPIO cable, 5.25v 1A power supply) my Monoprice package (headset - I know, I'm testing it for The Great Headphone Thread, powered USB hub, ethernet cable (It's $1, purple(!) and I didn't feel like making one)) and Steam deals have started! too bad the world ends in roughly 24 hours.

I just bought Hitman an hour ago.
It's on sale now, Great :(
I feel ripped off. D:
I suppose begging to valve won't get me a refund or gift voucher or anything...
Why the hell would you buy a game like that on December 20th. We've had huge holiday sales a few days before christmas the last few years.
Wouldn't have bothered me at all if it went on sale tomorrow as I intended to play it tonight while I crack open a brown ale and enjoy my time off work. It's just the fact it happens literally less than an hour after I bought it that annoys me a little.
The past steam sales haven't been too great for me so I didn't expect a game I'd buy would go on sale. Past 2 sales I've found myself saying "Already got it" and "Not my type of game" for everything.
Not the end of the world though, it's only £15, not like I've lost an arm or anything. It's just £15 knocked off my "Steam sales yearly budget" (£50)
I rarely buy "big" games. The last one I bought was BF3.
You could try emailing customer support, tell them you cried
No, send them a bottle of your tears.
Also, friend got a new Mobo, RAM, PSU and HDD today. Changed them. He went from 4GB of DDR2 to 8GB of DDR3 and from AM2+ to AM3+. So now he can finally unlock his locked cores. Maybe.
Also Noname 350W to a Corsair CX430.
The CPU was stuck on the heatsink . Used a hairdrier to get it off, he managed to slip the CPU and bend 2 pins and a corner. Straightened the 2 pins out, cleaned the heatsink, applied some MX3 (I think, already forgot) and then everything was fancy again.
Cable management took us 2 hours. And even then it looked like crap. I blame his case.
Sandy Hook + Apocalypse = Angry teachers with phones that don't hear announcements from the office calling me all day

So XBMC is pretty crap, as in half the bloody apps don't work and the music player lacks a volume control
Are there any other nice HTPC/Media Center programs for Windows that aren't or are better than Windows Media Center? Being able to control them with a controller would be a big plus (goddamn i'm looking forward to Big Picture Mode getting some sort of video and audio playback functionality)

Not saying it's any good or anything as I've not tried it myself, but there is MythTV.
Need a good defrag tool, the one that comes with windows sucks right?

while you're at it just download everything that piriform made it's like the only no-bullshit set of free optimization tools out there
27% fragmentation, bad?
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
Oh this is going to take years isnt it.

Depends on a lot of factors.
The time it'll take to defrag that is
Oh this is going to take years isnt it.
Pro-tip: Delete your browser cache before defragging. Firefox in particular generates horribly fragmented files in its cache, but every browser has bad fragmentation there. It's just the nature of a cache.
Seriously, it cut out 70% of my defrag time, going from an overnight thing to under an hour.
last I checked Defraggler my storage partition had like sixteen zillion tiny files that were maybe 1 or 2% fragmented and the odd ISO file or whatever that was 77% fragmented
i set Firefox to clear its cache on exit so i don't have to worry about that one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834310661 there's also a cheaper 1366x768 version with 2gb less RAM and no 16gb ssd.
Tried looking for one with a 650m and all that came up were MSI gaming laptops, Alienware, and Apple. There was an Acer Aspire but eugh that glossy body is sickening.
