3 years is not grounds to drop support for a more than powerful enough graphics card.
Its not like I'm bitching because I have an unsupported Hercules screen card or a Matrox millenium.
Your card is old as dirt, there's no getting around that. I'd rather they focus support on new cards than waste resources on your relic.
I only bought the thing because it was cheap. I downgraded back to my GTX 260 within a week due to buggy drivers, shit cooling and a hilariously loud fan.
Thats the last AMD card I'm ever buying. I've had nothing but trouble from them.
Coincidentally, I've had nothing but garbage from Nvidia. How many AMD cards have you gotten to justify calling them all shit?
Its retarded how people blame the product so much and say they wont buy anymore of Nvida/Amd/ati.
My Corsair AX850 broke but i didnt say Corsair sucks so much and i never buy again.
Sometimes you get bad luck.
And if the fan is broken why not rma it?
I have had cards from both nvida/ati/amd and i never got a broken one.
I never had any driver problems with them.
The only reason amd is not supporting it anymore is because they want to lower the size of the files, so that people that don't have as fast internet can download it faster.
Also 4 years is pretty long time. you could have bought a newer card by then.
Its just stupid to base something on Oh i bought this product from this company and it sucked for me i never buy from them again.
is there any specific best place to by generic computer parts in the UK??

yeah AMD is bad, tell everyone how those of us who have been scooting along with AMD for awhile without issue are wrong
A guy on another forum I moderate was saying how he's had bad experience with intel so he's only buying AMD.
Our whole tech team on that forum got into gear and called him as many variations of fucking retarded as possible.

Overclockers too :v:
Bad customer service in the past but I've found that they've been improving.
If games are expensive in you area get them from intkeys or trade someone for them.

I don't say overclockers for that reason.
Personally I just choose whatever one has the best prices out of those 3, and overclockers as a last resort.
So I just had a long talk with the CEO of the company I work for about the future of our Notebooks.
We are currently evaluating new notebooks for our workers, because our current notebooks are some old dell nb's. And now since windows8 is released, every fucking new HP and DELL notebook that we evaluated is now shipping preinstalled with windows8.
In our meeting we came to the conclusion, that we won't use the preinstalled windows8 on the systems, because it would cost too much giving courses for win8 to all workers, just so they know how to use windows again, and buying some huge windows7 volume license would be a waste of money aswell.
So me and the CEO came to the conclusion, that we're gonna use GNU/Linux on all machines, and run virtual machines for the engineers who need windowsXP for some of their software.
This is going to be awesome.

I may get some free windows8 licenses aswell, because they wouldn't be used :v:

Giving win8 courses will cost too much, but teaching linux will not?

Depending on the DE, it can look the same as windowsXP, wich we currently use.

So my mom called me while I was recording some Killing Floor. She thanks me for buying her a camera and then proceeds to bring up the "documentary" 2016. (Obama is a communist movie) and says me and my dad need to watch it right away and it exposes all of Obama's plots to ruin america.
I've told her that I'm really more neutral overall. When in reality I think Obama is doing a good job and will be voting for him again. And when I said I might not vote she tells me that if I don't vote, it's like voting for Obama. She really does think he's the anti-christ. She then brings up the quote like, "Evil Prevails when good men do nothing" blah blah. Made me so pissed off.
Posting this here since it's general chat.
also they aren't powerusers, that means, they don't have to know anything about linux itself, only where to start their programs.

RIP merge.
I honestly have to agree. Nvidia's latest drivers support all the way back to the 8xxx GT series. Even if they don't really improve them at all, they're still supported. AMD isn't helping their reputation regarding drivers when they're dropping their HD 5000 cards. How long is it going to take before my HD 6970 gets dropped too? My old GTX 260 will probably still get driver updates after my 6xxx AMD card is dropped.
Woah, when are they dropping 5-series support? It's still a DX11 card, and looking at the steam hardware survey, there's still WAY more 5 and 6-series cards than 7-series out there. Hell, there's nearly equal amounts of 4-series and 7-series cards.
Its like 3 series behind also they stated that drivers from 4-5 HD series will no longer be supported.
You might wanna go confirm it for yourself though.
I think it's a little wasteful that they're dropping support for the 4 series. They're still very capable cards, we shouldn't just throw them out every few years. Then again, how long should they be supported? Chances are they're going to remain "capable" until there's a huge breakthrough in graphics rendering, like ray tracing or heavy use of tessellation.
Any reason as why the HD5770 was so popular?
When i got my i switched from a 7900GTX to HD5770.

Back when it came out it was really good price-performance wise.

I just upgraded from a 5770 to a 560ti 448. And honestly, I don't think I really needed it. In most games, the difference from medium to high is barely enough to justify my dropping 240 on a new card. The 5770 is great for what it is, and it will always have a special place in my heart as the card that started my pc gaming career.

What's a good general tech blog?
I checked the verge but they are extremely biased

Slashdot works for me.

I find a lot of people bitch about The Verge because they don't consistently rate Android devices high and Apple devices low.

Are you kidding? They're awful! Their writers don't know anything about technology, they're just writers who are told to write about some phone or tablet that lands on their desk.
[editline]29th October 2012[/editline]
Like honestly I don't care for how a site "scores" a device since I just enjoy reading someone else's experience with one, and I typically have the chance to use phones and tablets in depth anyway. But there are lots of legitimate complaints about the "journalism" from sites like The Verge and Gizmodo. I'm not asking for Anandtech quality, but they make Engadget look amazing by comparison.

The whole point of a review isn't to assess a journalist's technology knowhow - it's to explain to people what the device is, what it looks like, how it's used, etc. The Verge does a decent job at that - the rest of everything I can fill in with my own technological knowledge.
wow the verge really is bad, might be because I like reading technical stuff better tho
Also their articles and website just seem too "hip" and aimed at the masses/sipwickets

I find that maybe it would help them if they dropped the scoreboards - especially how it is with them just using an average of the scores. And I really don't understand why they reviewed Windows 8 already, their review is pretty superficial everything considered, and pretty much no one else has done one yet.
