and gmail is back
approximately 3 minutes of downtime
A whole 3 minutes without my email
what ever will I do
for google employees
who use hangouts for videochat, gchat for all sorts of things, gdocs
yeah, that actually is quite significant
A Google Car probably just ran over the Google Fiber. Nothing to see here.
A whole 3 minutes without my email

And Youtube. How should i spend my 5 min study breaks if not browsing though YouTube ??
If google and everything they own went down for an hour shit would probably be bad and cost companies everywhere money
if google went down i would be inclined to go outside
Imagine the drop in productivity, good luck finding what you're looking for with Bing

Man, have any of you guys seen the stories about the New York datacenters? Shit is crazy up there - I haven't seen damage that bad since Tohoku. These guys are carrying fuel up to the generators by bucket brigade.
Fortunately, the storm didn't really damage anything near me, but people were panicking anyways. The police actually closed down the city around 3:00PM, and schools were closed for two days, but I haven't seen any actual damage anywhere.
I misread your last paragraph and thought you were talking about New York and not seeing any damage.

Yeah, no, I haven't seen any damage in Richmond. Hell, the puddles are already gone.

In class right now we're talking about disaster recovery in relation to Sandy. I can't even begin to imagine the chaos right now.
The fuel supply at ground level is sufficient for the foreseeable future. Additional labor has been added to the bucket brigade and the building is making progress on securing a fuel pump to replace the brigade. This all suggests the generator is at little to no risk of running out of fuel.
sounds like something out of a postapocalyptic scenario.

Great advice! I can finally overclock my Pentium 4 to 8GHz without that damn heatsink eating up all my computer watts!

Internap got fucked up the worst. They didn't prepare at all and it shows. Just about every single one of their DC's are down, and they couldn't stay on diesel for long since their diesel pumps on just about every single DC got fucked by water. They also destroyed some of their clients equipment too, it seems.
But really, Sandy fucked up just about everything in NY. 60 Hudson's comms were down (Power was fine), 111 8th went dark, and the Yellow/AC-2 cable from NYC to UK went dark because lines from the landing to carrier hotels got ripped up.
Tl;dr Shit's fucked up, captain.
Is anyone else here doing CS50X from Harvard's online thingy?
I am.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136941 for 60 euros.
I am so tempted to buy it but then I wouldn't have enough money for a CPU upgrade :c
Why buy that?
I was doing CS50x for a day or two and dropped it for 6.00x.
[editline]1st November 2012[/editline]
Heh.

So how about a new november thread?
Didn't we drop monthly threads?
8 second instant hamburger
this analogy is not realistic 0/10
Probably going to go to a college for my 2nd year for something related to computers, because I'm really interested in them but I'm not sure exactly what.
Computer Programming
Web Development
Network/Systems Admin
Not sure on the technical names of either.
So how about a new november thread?
we don't do monthly anymore
They dropped the monthly thing like 3 months after they started it haha, hasn't been like that since April I think
we don't do monthly anymore
I just saw that both WAYWO's made new threads so I assumed the the monthly lock is back again, nevermind then
monthly is outdated
