to be pretty?
I mean "to look pretty". Lol
Just to say that English is not my first language
And the 840 has all the stuff at the top where it's more convenient
[editline]07:21PM[/editline]
Oh my fucking god my automerge was broken twice in one thread
Only a difference on Crysis ? Woah, really worth it.
Cases are not made to be pretty, but for their main function.
Firstly if you cared to look through the rest of the site you would see there's a 30-40% difference throughout. Although it doesn't matter much at the moment (because most of the time they're all past 60 FPS) it will in the future. Also I care if my case is ugly, I wouldn't want it to be an eyesore that I had to look at everyday
To be honest the performance difference you would see between x8 and x16 is negligible if not unnoticeable since few cards use that much bandwidth. I do concur that you could still have a very good build for £800-£1000, I was just showing the OP what he could get for his money. If I were the OP though I wouldn't spend more than £1000 on a build
So all in all everyone, what should i get with £1400 ?? i like FINLEY's build, but obviously there are still some debates about the processor/case and ram :S
Just get an i5-750 and 4GB of memory and spend the money you save on things like a keyboard/mouse
Just get an i5-750 and 4GB of memory and spend the money you save on things like a keyboard/mouse
This is probably the best option, as the benchmarks below show performance is very similar between the three processors:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2009/09/08/intel-core-i5-and-i7-lynnfield-cpu-review/7
The case is your choice really, whichever you like the most since they're all good
Just get an i5-750 and 4GB of memory and spend the money you save on things like a keyboard/mouse
i like the idea of having a i7 and 6 gb of memory, im not too worried about the little things such as mouse and keyboards
More benchmarks:

the price difference isn't that much though?
the price difference isn't that much though?
You'd probably save around £150-£200 if you went for an i5 and 4GB of RAM. The i7 920 is the best processor, but not a whole lot better. I could only find benchmarks for crysis so they aren't completely reliable

would 6gb of ram still work with the i5, I'm guessing obviously yes?
Here's a modified version of my original build (RAM, CPU and motherboard have been changed), it's about £150 less

Yes it would work, but not in triple channel so they'd be no point in the extra 2GB

Triple channel?
Woah didn't realize the tiny price difference between the two cases
But if you get the ATCS 840 you'll save money by not buying as many fans.
Triple channel?
Basically the extra 2GB would slow down performance. I can guarantee that you will only use 4GB anyway, so you'll be fine

The corsair comes with 3 fans and can take anther 4 (which would only cost about £20 anyway)

It would slow down performance!, i thought the more ram the better!?!
Oh
840 is still lighter though, the 800D is 44 pounds, and the 700D is probably the same. I mean damn!
[editline]08:06PM[/editline]
Well it's not like you're going to use the case for lan parties but still
It would slow down performance!, i thought the more ram the better!?!
To an extent. The RAM works in pairs so it can work more efficiently. However one stick won't have another to work with so it can't go as fast. The rest of the RAM has to work at the same speed as the slowest stick so it slows down performance

any chance of 8gig being accepted? and if so what would i need?
any chance of 8gig being accepted? and if so what would i need?
You don't need 8gb for an gaming rig, seriously.
That would be just a waste of money.
You don't need 8gb for an gaming rig, seriously.

Its not a gaming rig though, its just a overall beast
Thats what i intended to have any way
but i wanted the other stuff for gaming aswell, so like
combined gaming and performance pc
8Gb will do nothing in performance, just be able to support more programs at once than 6Gb or 4Gb.
[editline]11:37AM[/editline]
And it's not because you possess such a budget, that you have to spend anyway. Use more your common sense.

But it will effect rendering time? and how fast a program opens?
A program opens fast if you have a good HDD (or SSD). That's why Spinpoint F3 and WD Caviar Black are for.
SSD are the fastest storage disks, but don't go above 80Gb, because it's too expensive nowadays. They are just good for installing your OS and some softwares.

wow!, i obviously no nothing about computers any more lol, im glad you guys are helping me out tbh! so do you think i should just get this then:
CPU:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172755
Motherboard:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/182111

maybe a different case
The GPU bugs me a little, but it's your choice after all. But if I were you, I would go for GTX 480, especially because with ATI HD 5970, you will be very dependant of drivers (5970 count like a crossfire after all). And like a crossfire, the 5970 has some advantages but a lot of disadvantages from this technology.
Zotac AMP! Edition seems to be the best alternative of GTX 480, somewhat a little more expensive. But it runs cooler and is less noisy. I heard it is also bigger, but I'm not sure about that.
For your case, 700D is ok, but like I said before, it's mainly a case for watercooling setup (like 800D). Go instead with a case with a good airflow like HAF X, ATCS840 (from CoolerMaster) or P193 (from Antec). HAF X seems to be the better airflow case around here, from a lot of reviews. (Bit-Tech, Techpower-Up, etc...)
[editline]12:15PM[/editline]
Damn, found that Zotac AMP! Edition was a little more expensive (+20£) than 5970 2GB in your store. After all, it's your choice, not mine.

I love that case, but i think i will stick with the original gpu chosen.
So as this is my first build, will i have any problem's getting this thing up and running? drivers e.c.t? and do i have to buy any extra cables/screws/bolts? and is installing windows ultimate 64 bit the same as before? just put in the disk and off you go?, oh and one last question, i need a wireless card, a half decent one maybe?

Looking back on this, the graphics card is pretty immense, i think maybe i should have a less expensive graphics card so i can have 8 gig of ram so then this would work well with the motherboard right?

If you're spending that much money on the build, at least get yourself one of these:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/199644
if not one of these:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/202704
Don't worry about them not fitting in the case. If you check out any pictures of that thing with an ATX board installed(Some can be found in milky's build if you want to see an example of a nice mod), you'll see just how massive that thing actually is.
I personally wouldn't recommend the 700d, though. Reviews say that it has really bad airflow for air cooling, and seriously, by the looks of the pictures on Newegg, it does. It seems to do its air intake through a single fan that draws air through a vent in the case floor. My mid tower case has much better cooling that that thing does.

Thanks for the advice, but i think the graphics card i have chosen will do, as i realize i still need to get a half decent monitor lol, also,
what would you recommend for the case instead then?
GPU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/202704

About £1320. Use the rest to get yourself something nice.
