Prices may drop as christmas gets closer and ATI releases the 6*** series so smart move would be to wait a little while before jumping on these. Save some cash and by then the drivers will've matured.
that's really more up to the retailers than nvidia
[editline]8th November 2010[/editline]
so uh, were retail prices announced?
$499 msrp
And I'm still using a 9600GT :saddowns:
I'm still using a 8500 GT. :smithicide:
Yes against the first, no against my Rage. Not sure about the GeForce 2.
Holy shit I just saw that one. I thought 128MB was low, and I even knew that my laptop went down to 32MB cards... But 2 or 6? Damn.
iMac G3. Cower in fear of it's graphics processing power.
But more on topic: Cool, maybe this will drive prices on the 4xx series down.

Look up the IBM MDA. A whopping 4,096 bytes of VRAM.
Numbers don't lie.
I'm sure ati will be on par once they release their 6900s.

Jesus fucking christ!
What the fuck would you do with 4GB of Vram?

Try making a 2000 piece assembly in Inventor, watch it suck vram and ram.

Is it also possible to create a 700 prop Gmod contraption with that sort of specs?
Is it also possible to create a 700 prop Gmod contraption with that sort of specs?
Dunno, but I've created a 500 piece assembly with a quadro 4800 and it didn't handle it as well as I hoped.
Is it also possible to create a 700 prop Gmod contraption with that sort of specs?
It can't run GMod. In fact, it can't even play Doom. The Monochrome Display Adaptor is strictly text-only.
I'm still somewhat in shell shock, this thing came out of nowhere.

eww, far cry 2, get me some proper benchmarks you obvious nvidia fanboy
[editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
Hmm... Yeah, I don't see anything about temps... Well, by tomorrow I'm sure there'll be at least a dozen reviews out so just give it time I guess.

ok, metro 2033, that'll do, you're still a fanboy but I'm now appropriately pumped

4096 BYTES, not megabytes. That's about 4 kilobytes of VRAM.

That is so bad.
I had my hopes up, but now i feel bad and shit.

I think there exist cards with 4GB of VRAM, but you'll probably;y think they have 4 bytes or something equally stupid.

I was being sarcastic.
Sarcasm can not be told on the internet.

Not that anybody can afford. The Quadro Plex line goes up to 16GB total (on a 4-GPU setup), and another one is 6GB per-GPU, but those things literally cost more than my car. I'm talking $10,000, easy. Over a kilowatt of power draw, even.
On the bright side, they can go up to 128x FSAA, and you can put several of them in SLI for even more power.

Well there are two non-workstation 4gb video cards on newegg, see my previous post. But I wouldn't exactly call them affordable. And technically they were 2 pcb units so it's actually 2gb per gpu.

4096 BYTE, read again

The length of this card is nothing. The 6970 is longer.

Wait, you saw his but not mine? I said that fourth post of this page.

I'm failing at reading. What do you expect? :v:
also, this is directed at the OP, you're seriously going to sell/trade in your 480 and buy a 580 for, at the most, a 20% performance increase?
really?
I have two, actually. And if I can bullshit my warranty I can get my $500 (Bought them at launch) back and lose nothing on buying these.
Even if I did end up having to sell them on craigslist or something and ended up paying the ~$200 difference, that's fine with me. I'm not strapped for cash.
I'm sure ati will be on par once they release their 6900s.
The 6900 series is targeted for mid-range performance.

Was the "Problem, ATI?" not a big enough hint of sarcasm for you?

yeah that's because you don't use workspace GPUs for real-time rendering
